Jetting Dynamics of Burning Gel Fuel Droplets.

Gels

November 2022

Microfluidics and Droplet Dynamics Lab, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Indore 453552, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Jetting in burning gel fuel droplets is an important process which, in addition to pure vaporization, enables the convective transport of unreacted fuel vapors from the droplet interior to the flame envelope. This aids in accelerating the fuel efflux and enhancing the mixing of the gas phase, which improves the droplet burn rates. In this study, Schlieren imaging was used to characterize different jetting dynamics that govern the combustion behavior of organic-gellant-laden ethanol gel fuel droplets.

This review examines the nexus of poverty, malnutrition and diseases in Africa, the challenges, implications and their mitigation. The paper takes a critical look at available literatures on the primary causes, modes, implications and solutions to the problems of poverty, malnutrition and diseases in Africa continent. Poverty and malnutrition are outcomes of uncontrolled rapid population growth, inefficient agricultural and industrial practices, high debt profile of many African countries due to poor governance and corruption, diseases such as AIDS epidemic, malaria, Ebola virus and COVID-19 pandemic, poor and inadequate health infrastructure and armed conflicts.

Biochar prepared from rice husk (rBC) was used as a nanosorbent for the sustained delivery of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and for its potential use as an eco-friendly nanoherbicide formulation. For the biochar-based 2,4-D nanoformulation (DrBC), the loading efficiency of the herbicide onto the rBC nanocarrier was checked at various weight ratios, where a weight ratio of 1:0.25 (rBC:2,4-D) was found optimum.

Assessing the electrochemical properties of polypyridine and polythiophene for prospective applications in sustainable organic batteries.

Phys Chem Chem Phys

January 2017

Materials Theory Division, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Uppsala University, P.O. Box 530, S75121, Uppsala, Sweden. and Applied Materials Physics, Departments of Materials and Engineering, Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), S-10044, Stockholm, Sweden.

Conducting polymers are being considered promising candidates for sustainable organic batteries mainly due to their fast electron transport properties and high recyclability. In this work, the key properties of polythiophene and polypyridine have been assessed through a combined theoretical and experimental study focusing on such applications. A theoretical protocol has been developed to calculate redox potentials in solution within the framework of the density functional theory and using continuous solvation models.

The article presents, using Bi doped ZnO, an example of a heavy ion doped oxide semiconductor, highlighting a novel p-symmetry interaction of the electronic states to stabilize ferromagnetism. The study includes both ab initio theory and experiments, which yield clear evidence for above room temperature ferromagnetism. ZnBi(x)O(1-x) thin films are grown using the pulsed laser deposition technique.

Molecular regulation of dendritic spine dynamics and their potential impact on synaptic plasticity and neurological diseases.

Neurosci Biobehav Rev

December 2015

Field Neurosciences Institute, St. Mary's of Michigan, Saginaw, MI, USA; Department of Psychology and Neurosciences Program, Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, MI, USA. Electronic address:

The structure and dynamics of dendritic spines reflect the strength of synapses, which are severely affected in different brain diseases. Therefore, understanding the ultra-structure, molecular signaling mechanism(s) regulating dendritic spine dynamics is crucial. Although, since last century, dynamics of spine have been explored by several investigators in different neurological diseases, but despite countless efforts, a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental etiology and molecular signaling pathways involved in spine pathology is lacking.
