Surfactin lipopeptides (LPs) are a compelling class of biosurfactants with notable antimicrobial and anticancer properties. This study presents a novel approach by integrating bioinformatics tools to assess the drug potential of Surfactin, specifically focusing on its antibacterial, antifungal activities, and cancer cell-line toxicity. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using Surfactin, a biosurfactant derived from KLP2016, as a capping agent, both in the presence and absence of Surfactin, to evaluate its impact on nanoparticle stability and bioactivity.

Anxiety is a widespread psychological disorder affecting both humans and animals. It is a typical stress reaction; however, its longer persistence can cause severe health disorders affecting the day-to-day life activities of individuals. An intriguing facet of the anxiety-related disorder can be addressed better by investigating the role of neurotransmitters in regulating emotions, provoking anxiety, analyzing the cross-talks between neurotransmitters, and, most importantly, identifying the biomarkers of the anxiety.

Deep neural network-based deep potentials (DP), developed by Tuo et al., have been used to compute the thermodynamic properties of free aluminum clusters with accuracy close to that of density functional theory. Although Jarrold and collaborators have reported extensive experimental measurements on the melting temperatures and heat capacities of free aluminum clusters, no reports exist for finite-temperature ab initio simulations on larger clusters (N > 55 atoms).

Rapid industrialization, mining, and other anthropogenic activities have poisoned our environment with heavy metals, negatively impacting all forms of life. Heavy metal pollution causes physiological and neurological disorders, as heavy metals are endocrine disrupters, carcinogenic, and teratogenic. Therefore, it becomes mandatory to address the challenge of heavy metal contamination on a global scale.

Unlabelled: Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) constitute a principal group of bio-degradable polymers that are produced by certain microbes under limited supply of nutrients. PHA is a linear polyester that comprises of 3-hydroxy fatty acid monomers. Triacylglycerol acylhydrolases are known to catalyze the hydrolysis of ester linkages and in turn they are beneficial in the degradation of PHA.

Microplastics (MPs) pollution has raised serious environmental concerns due to its widespread generation and discharge across global ecosystems. It is estimated that approximately 400 million metric tons of plastic are produced annually, with 54% ending up as waste. The MPs account for a significant portion of this pollution.

Common buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) is a gluten-free underutilized pseudocereal with excellent therapeutic and nutraceutical potential. Sprouts and microgreens produced from this plant species can be consumed regularly owing to a rich nutritional profile that can be improved by regulating the abiotic factors during their growth. Therefore, this study explores the responses of common buckwheat sprouts and microgreens in terms of growth and phytochemicals accumulation under temperature (16, and 25 ºC) and photoperiodic (16/8 h and 20/4 h, light/dark intervals) variations.

Herein, we report two different adsorbents from spherical nanocellulose (SNC) in successive steps, for the adsorption of Hg ions and Congo red (CR). Cellulose extracted from pine needles was subsequently converted to SNC through mixed acidic hydrolysis. As-obtained SNC was esterified with methionine at C6 of the anhydroglucose unit to produce SNC-methionine ester (SNC-ME).

Industrial and academic chemical pollutants such as Eriochrome Black-T (EBT) and murexide dyes are widely used in academic institution as well as industries, when eluted into rivers, delineate the ill effect on human and aquatic life. Herein, green and ecofriendly synthesis of silver doped-Zinc oxide nanoparticles (Ag/ZnO NPs) and chitosan coated Ag/ZnO nanoparticles (CS/Ag/ZnO NPs) using Bergera koenigii extract to solve environmental issues have been reported for the first time. Spherical and agglomerated particles with crystalline flakes like morphology of Ag/ZnO NPs and CS/Ag/ZnO NPs respectively have been ascertained by Scanning electron morphology (SEM) analyses and XRD.

We applied a holistic, sustainable, and green approach to develop an effective multipurpose adsorbent from whole pine needles (PNs), a forest waste lignocellulosic biomass. The PNs were oxidized and modified with phenylhydrazine-4-sulphonic acid (ɸHSOH) to OPN-ɸHSOH. The latter was characterized and tested as an adsorbent for cationic dyes, malachite green (MG), methylene blue (MB), crystal violet (CV), and metal ions (Hg⁺ and Pb⁺).

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored antiviral peptides (AVPs) as potential inhibitors of the SARS-CoV-2 Orf9b protein, which plays a critical role in viral infection by forming a complex with TOM70.
  • Through molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations, two peptides, AVP1442 and AVP1896, were identified as having strong binding affinities to Orf9b, comparable to the existing Orf9b-TOM70 interaction.
  • These AVPs demonstrated stable interactions with important amino acids in Orf9b, suggesting they could be further investigated as components in drug therapies against COVID-19.

Multinuclear (di/tri) copper(II) complexes bridged through hydroxyl groups are very interesting coordination complexes owing to their potential applications in various fields. In this work, three novel dinuclear (μ-hydroxo)-bridged copper(II) complexes in the crystal form, namely, [Cu(3,5-DIFLB)(H)](HO) (1), [Cu(4-ClB)(H)](HO) (2), and [Cu(4-ETHB)(H)](HO) (3) (where DIFLB = difluorobenzoate, CLB = chlorobenzoate, ETHB = ethoxybenzoate, and H = triethanolamine), were isolated at room temperature using methanol and water in a 4 : 1 v/v ratio as a solvent. Furthermore, all three complexes (1-3) were characterised using spectroscopic (UV-vis, DRS, and FT-IR), electrochemical (CV) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques.
