Photodynamic therapy (PDT), an approach to cancer treatment, relies fundamentally on two key elements: a light source and a photosensitizing agent. A primary challenge in PDT is the efficient delivery of photosensitizers to the target tissue, hindered by the body's reticuloendothelial system (RES). Silica nanoparticles (SiNPs), known for their unique properties, emerge as ideal carriers in this context.

Analysis of the Origin of Emiratis as Inferred from a Family Study Based on , , , -, and Genes.

Genes (Basel)

May 2023

Sheikh Khalifa Medical City-Union71-Purehealth, Abu Dhabi P.O. Box 51900, United Arab Emirates.

Unlabelled: In this study, we investigated HLA class I and class II allele and haplotype frequencies in Emiratis and compared them to those of Asian, Mediterranean, and Sub-Saharan African populations.

Methods: Two-hundred unrelated Emirati parents of patients selected for bone marrow transplantation were genotyped for HLA class I (, , ) and class II (, ) genes using reverse sequence specific oligonucleotide bead-based multiplexing. HLA haplotypes were assigned with certainty by segregation (pedigree) analysis, and haplotype frequencies were obtained by direct counting.

Atherosclerosis is known as the leading factor in heart disease with the highest mortality rate among the Malaysian population. Usually, the gold standard for diagnosing atherosclerosis is by using the coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) technique to look for plaque within the coronary artery. However, qualitative diagnosis for noncalcified atherosclerosis is vulnerable to false-positive diagnoses, as well as inconsistent reporting between observers.

Terpenoids are a diverse class of naturally occurring compounds consisting of more than 50,000 structurally different molecules and are found in all living organisms. Many terpenoid compounds, in particular those isolated from plants, have applications in various commercial sectors including medicine, agriculture and cosmetics. However, these high value terpenoids are produced in relatively small quantities in their natural hosts and their chemical synthesis for large scale production is costly and complicated.

  • Radiomics involves extracting quantitative features from high-dimensional data for automated disease classification, including atherosclerotic disease.
  • The study analyzed 202 patients who underwent CCTA, extracting radiomic features from three coronary arteries to evaluate various AutoML models for classifying atherosclerotic plaques.
  • Model 1 excelled in classifying normal and calcified plaques, while Model 2 was effective for non-calcified plaques, but Model 3 did not contribute to plaque classification; overall, the study highlighted TPOT's effectiveness in optimizing model performance with CCTA data.
