This case report presents a difficult-to-diagnose case of American tegumentary leishmaniasis (ATL) caused by in a 24-year-old Hispanic male with a travel history to the Panama jungle, an endemic region for tropical infectious diseases. The patient initially presented with persistent skin lesions that progressed to abscesses with ulceration. Despite negative initial diagnostic tests, including microbiological investigations and histopathological examination, a comprehensive diagnostic workup and subsequent polymerase chain reaction (PCR) confirmed the presence of Leishmania parasites.

Liposarcoma is one of the most common soft tissue malignancies in adults, accounting for 15% to 20% of all sarcomas. We report a case of the largest dedifferentiated gastric liposarcoma recorded to date in a patient who presented with upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Initial pathology reports indicated a benign cause even after multiple biopsies were performed; only after surgical resection was the diagnosis confirmed.

Synchronous gastric and colon cancer although reported from East Asia (China, Japan, Korea) remain rare in other parts of the world. We present the case of a 50-year-old lady who presented to the Hialeah Hospital, USA with an eight-month history of generalized abdominal pain and upon investigation was found to have dual gastric and colonic malignancy. While the incidence of gastric cancer has dropped drastically in the USA, colon cancer remains the third most frequent cancer in both men and women.

It has been recently established that ictus emeticus originates from mesial temporal lobe structures. We herein report a patient with generalized epilepsy who exhibited ictus emeticus reflexly triggered by intermittent photic stimulation accompanied by generalized photoparoxysmal responses on the electroencephalogram. All seizures and EEG abnormalities ceased after treatment with valproic acid.

Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis is a rare hamartomatosis involving the craniofacial region and the central nervous system. The most prominent clinical features are large areas of scalp alopecia, soft subcutaneous craniofacial masses, lipomas, connective tissue nevi of the eyelids and surrounding areas, pterygium-like choriostoma of the ocular conjunctiva, mental retardation, motor deficit, and seizures. Of the eight patients reported previously, three had spinal cord evaluations and two had evidence of lipomatosis.
