A retrospective review over 6 yr of patients presenting to the hand clinic was performed to identify cases of postoperative brachial plexopathy (PBP) and to assess both prognosis and early indices of prognosis. Over this period (1989-1995), 22 patients were referred by the hospital's surgical departments to the hand clinic because of PBP. Eight cases followed open heart surgery (OHS) and 14 followed non-cardiac surgery (NCS).

We tested whether a high spinal anesthesia may alter the susceptibility to the soporific effects of sedatives. Twenty ASA grade I and II women undergoing elective abdominal hysterectomy were randomly allocated into two groups. Patients in Group I were given a subarachnoid injection of 12 mg hyperbaric tetracaine and those patients who after 10 min had a sensory level of T4-6 (10 patients) were included in the study.

Objective: To demonstrate the benefit of cooperation between medical and chiropractic specialists and the usefulness of combining chiropractic and epidural injection in particular cases of back pain.
Clinical Features: Two cases of low back pain, both with disk protrusions and osteophytic changes, had no response to several weeks of alternate day (or more) chiropractic care. A third case of herniated intervertebral disks and low back pain had no improvement from treatment with epidural steroidal injection.
