Purpose: To report a case of exudative retinal detachment (ERD) in a child with Acute retinal necrosis (ARN).
Method: Retrospective Chart Review.
Result: A six-year-old boy presented with anterior uveitis with hypopyon and exudative retinal detachment with peripheral confluent patches of retinitis in the left eye.
Background: Maternal infections caused by the ToRCH complex, comprising Toxoplasma gondii (T.gondii), Rubella Virus (RV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), are significant contributors to Bad Obstetric History (BOH). These infections can vertically transmit through the placental barrier, leading to complications in fetal development.

Background: Richter's transformation (RT) in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is associated with poor prognosis and requires prompt modifications in patient care. CLL patients are susceptible to severe infections due to immune dysregulation induced by their malignancy and immunosuppressive therapies.
Case Presentation: We present a case of a 63-year-old man with CLL who previously achieved remission and presented with a right inguinal mass.

Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is the leading pathogen in the maxillo-facial region, affecting millions of individuals worldwide. Its periodic reactivation aligns with the most common course pattern of periodontal disease. The present study used RNA sequencing to investigate the transcriptomes of human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) following HSV-1 infection from the early to late stages (12-72 h).

Infections with Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV1) and Toxoplasma gondii (TG) have been implicated in severe mental illness. All three pathogens have high seroprevalence in the human population, are neurotropic and establish a persistent infection. We hypothesized that exposed (seropositive) patients with severe mental illness would show higher immunoglobulin G (IgG) concentrations than exposed healthy controls (HC).

Background: High-voltage (65 V) long-duration pulsed radiofrequency (HL-PRF) is an effective method for managing zoster-associated pain (ZAP), though the limited efficacy of and high recurrence rates associated with the procedure present concerns.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the safety and effectiveness of a higher-voltage HL-PRF treatment based on the original procedure for ZAP in the spinal area.
Study Design: A prospective, randomized, controlled trial.

Viral infections leading to inflammation have been implicated in several common diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and type 1 diabetes (T1D). Of note, herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) has been reported to be associated with AD. We sought to identify the transcriptomic changes due to HSV-1 infection and anti-viral drug (acyclovir, ACV) treatment of HSV-1 infection in dissociated cells from human cerebral organoids (dcOrgs) versus stem cell-derived pancreatic islets (sc-islets) to gain potential biological insights into the relevance of HSV-1-induced inflammation in AD and T1D.

This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of fire needle plus cupping (FC) combined with oral famciclovir and gabapentin for the treatment of acute-phase herpes zoster (AHZ). This study was conducted as a superiority, randomized controlled trial in which 84 patients with AHZ who met the diagnostic criteria were selected and randomly assigned to three groups on a 1:1 basis. Group A: received oral famciclovir with gabapentin treatment (FG); Group B: received fire needle plus cupping (FC) with FG.

Viruses pose a significant challenge and threat to human health, as demonstrated by the current COVID-19 pandemic. Neurodegeneration, particularly in the case of Alzheimer's disease (AD), is significantly influenced by viral infections. AD is a neurodegenerative disease that affects people of all ages and poses a significant threat to millions of individuals worldwide.

Studies showed that toxicants that adhered to the surface of nano-microplastics (NPs) have toxicological effects. Juvenile tilapia were divided into four groups namely the control group (A), 100 ng·L sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) group (B), 75 nm NPs group (C) and SMZ + 75 nm NPs group (D), and were exposed to an acute test for 2, 4 and 8 days. The hepatic histopathological changes, enzymatic activities, transcriptomics and proteomics analysis have been performed.

Herpes simplex virus (HSV) encodes surface glycoproteins that are host defense evasion molecules, allowing the virus to escape immune clearance. In addition to their role in neuropathogenesis and cell-cell spread, glycoproteins E and I (gE/gI) form a viral Fc receptor (vFcR) for most subclasses and allotypes of human IgG and promote evasion of humoral immune responses. While monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) protect mice from neonatal HSV (nHSV) infections, the impact of the vFcR on mAb-mediated protection by binding to IgG is unknown.

Introduction: The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) eliminated cost sharing for Medicare Part D-covered vaccines but did not address the cost burden faced by Medicare beneficiaries who did not have prescription drug coverage. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of beneficiaries without prescription drug coverage and to assess the association between the receipt of a herpes zoster vaccine and prescription drug coverage status.
Methods: We used the 2019-2023 National Health Interview Survey and included Medicare beneficiaries aged 65 years and older who enrolled in both Parts A and B or a Medicare Advantage plan.

As obligate intracellular pathogens, viruses activate host metabolic enzymes to supply intermediates that support progeny production. Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT), the rate-limiting enzyme of salvage nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) synthesis, is an interferon-inducible protein that inhibits the replication of several RNA and DNA viruses through unknown mechanisms. Here, we show that NAMPT restricts herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) replication by impeding the virion incorporation of viral proteins owing to its phosphoribosyl-hydrolase (phosphoribosylase) activity, which is independent of the role of NAMPT in NAD synthesis.

Background: There may be potential associations between various pathogens, antibody immune responses, and breast cancer (BC), but the specific mechanisms and causal relationships remain unclear.
Methods: First, multiple Mendelian randomization (MR) methods were used for univariable MR analysis to explore potential causal relationships between 34 antibody immune responses (related to 12 pathogens), 46 antibody immune responses (related to 13 pathogens), antibody responses post-COVID-19 vaccination, 731 immune cell types, and various BC subtypes (including overall BC, ER-positive, ER-negative, Luminal A, Luminal B, Luminal B HER2-negative, HER2-positive, and triple-negative BC). The primary results were then subjected to reverse MR analysis, heterogeneity testing using Cochran's Q, and horizontal pleiotropy testing.
