The increased prevalence, severity, and mortality of heart disease and specifically heart failure among Hispanic and Black populations are a concern for clinicians and researchers. Additionally, patients of poor socioeconomic status also have worse outcomes for cardiovascular disease. To address disparities, it is necessary to address the persistent lack of representation in clinical research of diverse populations, including the Hispanic and Black populations and individuals who are of low socioeconomic status.

Cardiovascular risk is increased by a history of adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs). Efforts to understand and prevent these adverse outcomes may improve both fetal and birthing persons' outcomes in the peripartum period, and over the patient's lifetime. This study aims to assess the association of clinical, sociodemographic, and economic neighbor-hood factors with preterm birth (PTB) and APOs (the composite of stillbirth, small for gestation age, and low birthweight).

Database peptide search is the primary computational technique for identifying peptides from the mass spectrometry (MS) data. Graphical Processing Units (GPU) computing is now ubiquitous in the current-generation of high-performance computing (HPC) systems, yet its application in the database peptide search domain remains limited. Part of the reason is the use of sub-optimal algorithms in the existing GPU-accelerated methods resulting in significantly inefficient hardware utilization.

Background: Climate change has been shown to be directly linked to multiple physiological sequelae and to impact health consequences. However, the impact of climate change on mental health globally, particularly among vulnerable populations, is less well understood.
Objective: To explore the mental health impacts of climate change in vulnerable populations globally.

Feto-fetal hemorrhage (FFH) through placental vascular anastomoses is believed to be responsible for the death or damage of a "second twin" after the demise of a "first twin (co-twin)" in monochorionic twin pregnancies. However, the timing of FFH has been difficult to determine. The resulting anemia in the surviving twin can be suspected by the finding of an elevated middle cerebral artery peak-systolic velocity (MCA-PSV), but this elevation may lag for at least 4 h after the demise of the first twin.

Advanced practice providers increasingly assume responsibility for prior authorizations (PAs). We hypothesized that the time burden of PAs will be correlated with increased approval. We collected several variables (ie, type, method, time spent, use of peer to peer, and outcome) for all PAs completed by a departmental nurse practitioner in 1 region.

Peyronie's disease (PD) can be managed with surgery or intralesional injections of Collagenase clostridium histolyticum (CCH) however both are associated with side effects and variable results. It is unclear how many patients elect to undergo additional surgical correction after CCH. To answer this, we analyzed the Department of Veterans Affairs Informatics and Computing Infrastructure (VINCI) software.

Background: Peyronie's disease (PD) is a fibrotic condition of the penis characterized by abnormal plaque formation. Intralesional collagenase Clostridium histolyticum (CCh) is effective in noncalcified PD; however, its effectiveness in calcified PD is not well characterized.
Objective: To assess curvature improvement in calcified PD plaques treated with CCh.

Premature ejaculation is the most common male sexual dysfunction, with therapies including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, clomipramine, topical anesthetics, dapoxetine and tramadol. However, it is currently unknown how many men are receiving pharmacotherapy for premature ejaculation. Using the TriNetX Research network, a large multicenter database containing over 75 million patient records from hospitals across the United States, we evaluated prescribing patterns for treatment of premature ejaculation and assessed variations in prescription patterns among patients from 2015-2021.

Leftward posterior deviation of the atrial septum primum (LDSP) has been reported in up to 64% of patients with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) but there are no published data on its impact on neonatal outcomes. We reviewed the prevalence of LDSP and its correlation with neonatal outcomes in our institution. This was a single-center retrospective study of neonates with HLHS from 2001 to 2019.

Ciclesonide (CIC) is an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) approved for the maintenance treatment of asthma in patients ages ≥ 12 years. The prodrug aspect of CIC is associated with a safety profile that may make it ideal for children. The objective was to summarize efficacy results from the eight phase III, randomized, double-blind, controlled trials in children with asthma conducted during CIC clinical development.

Database peptide search algorithms deduce peptides from mass spectrometry (MS) data. There has been substantial effort in improving their computational efficiency to achieve larger and more complex systems biology studies. However, modern serial and high-performance computing (HPC) algorithms exhibit sub-optimal performance mainly due to their ineffective parallel designs (low resource utilization), and high overhead costs.

In the forearm, ligaments and joints act in unison to facilitate placement of the hand in 3-dimensional space and transmit loads across the upper extremity. Intricate, effective forearm stabilizers facilitate physiologic motions and restrict abnormal ones. The proximal radioulnar joint, interosseous ligament complex, and distal radioulnar joint work together to ensure the forearm is stable.

Background: Civilian mass shooting events (CMSE) are occurring with increased frequency. Unfortunately, our knowledge of how to respond to these events is largely based on military experience and medical examiner data. While this translational knowledge has improved our basic response to such events, it is critical that we have a better under-standing of the wound patterns observed and the resources utilized in civilian mass shootings.
