Objective: In this study, we aimed to evaluate mir-31-5p as a prognostic biomarker of keloid disease (KD) recurrence using a retrospective, treatment naïve, surgical cohort of head and neck KD cases from Henry Ford Health.
Methods: Using a tissue microarray, mir-31-5p expression was measured with miRNAscope, and mir-31-5p cell positivity was determined with QuPath. Logistic regression was used to test the association between mir-31-5p positive cells and KD recurrence at 1 year.

Background: Nationwide US data on readmission rates for patients with cirrhosis admitted with hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) is lacking. We reviewed 30-day readmission rates after HRS-related hospitalizations, the associated predictors of readmissions, and their impact on resource utilization and mortality in the United States.
Methods: We identified all adults admitted with HRS between 2016 and 2019 using the Nationwide Readmission database of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project.
Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection causes liver disease, including hepatocellular carcinoma. Controlling viral activity is crucial to reducing complications. Tenofovir may offer benefits over entecavir, but it is unclear if switching from entecavir to tenofovir improves outcomes.

Diversity among physicians has been shown to positively impact patient care. Physicians from minority backgrounds are more likely to serve underserved communities and be involved in health disparities research. Efforts to increase the proportion of underrepresented minorities and women in medicine will help prepare a physician workforce that best cares for a diversifying nation.

This case report discusses the effectiveness of the Inari FlowTriever system in treating a right atrial (RA) clot in-transit in a 55-year-old male patient with Becker's muscular dystrophy (BMD). BMD is an X-linked recessive muscle disease caused by mutations in the gene that code for the protein dystrophin, which is associated with partially functional dystrophin in variable amounts. Right heart thrombi (RHT) are thrombi that can be visualized in the right atrium, right ventricle, or proximal surrounding vasculature.

We aimed to determine the rate of associated complications for 16 high-risk conditions in a Michigan statewide network of academic and community EDs during the pandemic.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study of pediatric ED visits among a network of 5 Michigan health systems during the pre-pandemic (March 1, 2019-March 10, 2020) and pandemic (March 11, 2020-March 31, 2021) periods.
COVID-19 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 [SARS-CoV-2]) is associated with coagulopathy through numerous mechanisms. The reported incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 has varied widely, and several meta-analyses have been performed to assess the overall prevalence of VTE. The novelty of this coronavirus strain along with its unique mechanisms for microvascular and macrovascular thrombosis has led to uncertainty as to how to diagnose, prevent, and treat thrombosis in patients affected by this virus.
