The ectopic xenograft mouse model of cancer is a commonly employed tool for in vivo investigations, particularly for studying cell tumorigenicity and testing the efficacy and tolerability of systemic or local anti-cancer therapies. The model displays advantageous features with an easy-access to visualize and monitor tumor growth in real-time with a caliper. Although the tumor development occurs in an ectopic location, the histology of the tumor resembles that of human cancer upon pathological examination.

Background: Middle meningeal artery (MMA) embolization has been proposed as a treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH). The benefit of the procedure has yet to be demonstrated in a randomized controlled trial. We aim to assess the efficacy of MMA embolization in reducing the risk of CSDH recurrence 6 months after burr-hole surgery compared with standard medical treatment in patients at high risk of postoperative recurrence.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine, in critically ill patients treated with therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), the incidence of adverse events as well as the incidence of secondary infections and its predictive factors.
Design: A multicenter retrospective cohort study of an intensive care population treated with TPE to collect adverse events and infectious complications. The characteristics of patients who developed an infection after plasma exchange were compared with those of patients who did not.

Objective: The stroke risk for persons living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHIVs) doubled compared to uninfected individuals. Stroke-unit (SU)-access, acute reperfusion therapy-use and outcome data on PLHIVs admitted for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) are scarce.
Methods: AIS patients admitted (01 January 2017 to 31 January 2021) to 10 representative Paris-area SUs were screened retrospectively from the National Hospitalization Database.

: calvarial capillary hemangiomas are vascular tumors rarely seen in newborns. Differential diagnosis may be not straightforward on imaging studies and the management depends on patient and lesion characteristics. : we present the case of a large congenital intracranial extra-axial lesion detected by routine prenatal US screening, a giant calvarial congenital hemangioma, treated with a multimodal strategy.

Purpose: Metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) still harbours a big propensity for future metastasis. Combinations of immune and targeted therapies are currently the cornerstone of management with a less clear role for surgical metastasectomy (SM).
Methods: We performed a narrative review of literature searching for the available evidence on the yield of surgical metastasectomy in the era of targeted and immune therapies.

Erythroblastic sarcoma (ES) (previously called chloroma or granulocytic sarcoma) are rare hematological neoplams characterized by the proliferation of myeloid blasts at extramedullary sites, and primarily involve the skin and soft tissue of middle-aged adults. ES may be concomitant with or secondary to myeloid neoplasms (mostly acute myeloid leukemia (AML)) or in isolated cases (de novo) without infiltration of the bone marrow by blasts. ES share cytogenetic and molecular abnormalities with AML, including RUNX1T1 fusions.

Adjuvant radiotherapy for breast cancer may involve some incidental exposure of the ipsilateral internal mammary artery to ionizing radiation. However, the relevant evidence is limited and inconsistent. The dataset presented in this article contains the information used to assess the effects of accidental radiation exposure on the internal mammary artery in patients with unilateral total mastectomy followed radiotherapy for breast cancer.

Background: Modern achievements in transnasal endoscopic skull base (SB) surgery have led to complex resections that render reconstruction a challenge. Temporoparietal fascia flap (TPFF) is a suitable option for SB reconstruction. The side-door TPFF technique for anterior SB reconstruction is described here for the first time in a real-life surgical setting.

Lung cancer is a highly vascularized tumor for which a combination between an antitumor agent, cisplatin, and an antiangiogenic molecule, fisetin, appears a promising therapeutic approach. In order to deliver both chemotherapies within the tumor, to enhance fisetin solubility and decrease cisplatin toxicity, an encapsulation of both drugs into liposomes was developed. Purification and freeze-drying protocols were optimized to improve both the encapsulation and liposome storage.

Patients with haematological malignancies might develop life-threatening toxoplasmosis, especially after allogeneic haematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT). Reactivation of latent cysts is the primary mechanism of toxoplasmosis following HSCT; hence, patients at high risk are those who were seropositive before transplantation. The lack of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole prophylaxis and various immune status parameters of the patient are other associated risk factors.

Background: The aim of our study was to find predictors of parenchymal hematoma (PH) and clinical outcome after mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) and baseline large infarct.
Methods: The databases of 16 stroke centers were retrospectively screened for patients with anterior circulation LVO and baseline Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) ≤5 that received MT. Procedural parameters, including the number of passes during first and second technique of MT, were recorded.
