Background: The effect of targeted temperature management (TTM) combined with decompressive craniectomy (DC) on poor-grade aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) has not been previously addressed in the literature. This study aims to investigate the therapeutic outcomes of the combination of TTM and DC in patients with poor-grade aSAH.

Methods: This study represents a secondary analysis of the Multicenter Clinical Research on Targeted Temperature Management of Poor-grade Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (High-Quality TTM for PaSAH), a multicenter prospective study conducted in China.

Sacubitril/valsartan on right ventricular-pulmonary artery coupling and albumin-bilirubin score in heart failure in Chinese patients with reduced ejection fraction.

J Cardiothorac Surg

January 2025

Department of Cardiology, Zhengzhou University People's Hospital, Henan Provincial People's Hospital, Fuwai Central China Cardiovascular Hospital, Heart Center of Henan Provincial People's Hospital, Zhengzhou, Henan, 450003, China.

Objective: Impaired right ventricular (RV)-pulmonary arterial (PA) coupling, calculated by measuring the tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) to pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP), can be used as an early indicator of right ventricular dysfunction (RVD) in patients with heart failure with a reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Patients suffering from HFrEF experience improvements in left ventricular (LV) function through the administration of sacubitril/valsartan therapy. In addition, the albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) score was associated with the fluid overload status and adverse clinical outcomes in patients with heart failure.

Investigating the preventive effects of pulsed electromagnetic fields on glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in rats.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Spine and Spinal Cord Surgery, Henan Provincial People's Hospital, People's Hospital of Zhengzhou University, People's Hospital of Henan University, No. 7 Weiwu Road, Jinshui District, Zhengzhou, 450003, Henan, China.

The use of pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) has demonstrated effectiveness in the management of femoral head osteonecrosis as well as nonunion fractures; however, the effects of PEMF on preventing glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (GIOP) have not been extensively studied. The aim of this investigation was to explore the effectiveness of PEMF stimulation in averting GIOP in rats and uncover the potential fundamental mechanisms involved. A total of seventy-two adult male Wistar rats composed the experimental group and were subsequently assigned to three groups for treatment.

Biallelic intronic pentanucleotide repeat expansions, mainly (AAGGG)exp and/or (ACAGG)exp in RFC1, are detected in cerebellar ataxia, neuropathy and vestibular areflexia syndrome, late-onset ataxia, and in a wide disease spectrum including Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, multiple system atrophy, and Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the genotype-phenotype correlation and underlying mechanism are mostly unknown. We screened RFC1-repeat expansions in 1445 patients with parkinsonism.

Introduction: The intricate interplay between organs can give rise to a multitude of physiological conditions. Disruptions such as inflammation or tissue damage can precipitate the development of chronic diseases such as tumors or diabetes mellitus (DM). While both lung cancer and DM are the consequences of disruptions in homeostasis, the relationship between them is intricate.

Background: The optimal extent of lymph node resection for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains a topic of debate in the medical community. We aimed to assess the surgical and prognostic outcomes based on the extent of mediastinal lymph node dissection (MLND) for resectable clinical stage IA NSCLC.

Methods: From 2016 to 2018, 1,166 patients with clinical stage IA NSCLC who underwent lobectomy or segmentectomy with complete mediastinal lymph node dissection (C-MLND) or selective mediastinal lymph node dissection (S-MLND) at five hospitals were enrolled.

Unlocking the mysteries of n-oxPTH: implications for CKD patients.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

January 2025

Department of Nephrology, Henan Key Laboratory of Kidney Disease and Immunology, Henan Provincial People's Hospital, Zhengzhou, Henan, China.

Parathyroid hormone (PTH) is a pivotal hormone that regulates serum calcium and phosphate and is closely associated with higher risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). PTH can undergo oxidation at methionine 8 and methionine 18 of the molecule. This oxidation process leads to a lower binding affinity to the PTH receptor due to molecular refolding, particularly for PTH oxidized at methionine 8.

Study Design: This was a retrospective study.

Purpose: The current study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of atlantodentoplasty using the anterior retropharyngeal approach against irreducible atlantoaxial dislocation with atlantodental bony obstruction.

Overview Of Literature: In cases of atlantoaxial dislocation with atlantodental bony obstruction, owing to the presence of an osteogenic mass between the atlas and odontoid process, reduction is challenging to complete using the posterior approach.

National Clinical Research Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of Gynecological Oncology, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430000, China; Cancer Biology Research Center (Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Tumor Invasion and Metastasis), Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430000, China. Electronic address:

Background: It remains unclear whether adding CTLA-4 blockade to PD-1/PD-L1 blockade improves clinical outcomes in cervical cancer (CC).

Methods: In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 2 study (ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04590599), patients with recurrent/metastatic CC (R/M CC) who experienced disease progression after or during platinum-based chemotherapy were enrolled from 37 centers across China and randomly assigned (1:1), stratified by PD-L1 expression and prior treatment lines, to receive either IBI310 plus sintilimab or placebo plus sintilimab intravenously every 3 weeks for 12 weeks, followed by sintilimab alone.

It has been debated whether endometriosis (EMS) adversely affects oocyte quality, potentially leading to a higher incidence of genetically unbalanced embryos or other egg factors that affect the developmental potential. In this study, we explored the effects of endometriosis on risk of chromosomally aberrant in miscarried products of conception (POC) after assisted reproductive treatment (ART), including fresh and frozen cycles. Miscarried POCs were collected from EMS patients (N = 102) and non-EMS patients (N = 441).

NKTCL is a highly aggressive malignant tumor, especially prevalent in the southern regions of China. Although chemotherapy regimens based on ADM have achieved certain therapeutic effects in early treatment, the issue of ADM resistance severely limits the therapeutic efficacy and makes it difficult to improve patient survival rates. Our research results indicate that the expression level of APOC1 is closely related to the sensitivity of NKTCL cells to ADM.
