Background: Depression and decreased dopamine transporter (DAT) availability are prevalent in Parkinson's disease (PD), yet early predictive biomarkers are lacking. This study investigates the longitudinal associations between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) neuroglial activation markers, sTREM2 and YKL-40, and depression, as well as DAT availability, in PD patients.
Methods: We analyzed data from 172 PD subjects and 80 matched healthy controls from a large longitudinal study.

The human body contains trillions of cells, classified into specific cell types, with diverse morphologies and functions. In addition, cells of the same type can assume different states within an individual's body during their lifetime. Understanding the complexities of the proteome in the context of a human organism and its many potential states is a necessary requirement to understanding human biology, but these complexities can neither be predicted from the genome, nor have they been systematically measurable with available technologies.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is one type of blood cancer that initially has a high cure rate but frequently relapses and leading to death. Therefore, there is an urgent need for innovative AML treatments. The leukemia C1498 cells were co-cultured with M1 macrophage-derived exosomes (M1-exo), and the proliferation and apoptosis of C1498 cells were investigated using CCK-8 and flow cytometry, respectively.

Objective: Numerous studies have investigated predictors of intravesical recurrence following radical nephrectomy (RNU) in patients with upper urinary tract uroepithelial carcinoma (UTUC). In contrast, extravesical recurrence (EUR) has received less focus. Consequently, this study aims to evaluate the significant predictors of EUR after RNU through a systematic review of the literature and a meta-analysis.

: The vagus nerve, which connects the brain and gastrointestinal tract, helps to maintain immune balance in the intestines. Gut-specific integrins, on the other hand, help to keep immune cells in the intestines. Since immune cells from outside the intestines can significantly affect the outcome of strokes, we investigated how immune cells from the intestines affect the immune response in the brain during intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH).

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-pretreated primary periodontal ligament stem cell (PDLSC)-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) (L-PDLSC-EVs) on periodontitis.
Materials And Methods: PDLSCs were obtained from mouse periodontal ligaments via enzymatic digestion. An in vitro inflammatory microenvironment for PDLSCs was established using LPS, and L-PDLSC-EVs were isolated through ultracentrifugation and identified.

Purpose: Hospitalization is most common for severe pertussis cases and those with serious complications caused by pertussis. In mainland China, the immunization program consists of primary vaccinations at 3, 4, and 5 months, followed by a booster at 18 months with DTaP. It remains uncertain whether the first dose at 3 months, rather than 6 weeks as WHO recommended, may increase disease burden, as delayed immunization may lead to lagged protection.

Background: Approximately 60% of Asian populations with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harbor epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene mutations, marking it as a pivotal target for genotype-directed therapies. Currently, determining EGFR mutation status relies on DNA sequencing of histological or cytological specimens. This study presents a predictive model integrating clinical parameters, computed tomography (CT) characteristics, and serum tumor markers to forecast EGFR mutation status in NSCLC patients.

Background And Objective: Despite significant advancements in the safe delivery of anesthesia and improvements in surgical techniques, postoperative respiratory complications (PRCs) remain a serious concern. PRCs can lead to increased length of hospital stay, worsened patient outcomes, and higher hospital and postoperative costs. Perioperative lung injury and PRCs are more common in children than in adults owing to children's unique physiology and anatomical characteristics.

Objective: A meta-analysis of case-control studies was conducted to assess the risk of birth defects in offspring in China associated with maternal active and passive smoking and paternal smoking.
Methods: Four electronic databases were searched for qualified research up to December 2023. A Random-effect model or fixed-effect model was used to calculate the overall comprehensive risk estimates; and the relationship between parental smoking and the risk of birth defects in different periods of pregnancy.

SMARCA4-deficient undifferentiated tumor (SMARCA4-UT) in the chest is a high-grade malignant tumor that grows rapidly and often carries a poor prognosis. Unfortunately, there are currently no effective treatment available until now. Here, we report a case of SMARCA4-UT in a patient who showed a swift response to a combination treatment of penpulimab, anlotinib, and chemotherapy.

The role of the monocyte marker CD14 in the regulation of obesity is increasingly recognized. Our observations indicated that Cd14 mice exhibited a leaner body shape compared to their wild-type (WT) counterparts. And the loss of CD14 alleviated high-fat diet-induced obesity in mice.

Globally, plastic pollution threatens human health, particularly affecting the hearts of offspring exposed to maternal environmental factors early in development. Few studies have specifically addressed sex-specific cardiac injury in offspring resulting from maternal exposure to polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs). This study investigates the potential cardiac injury in offspring following maternal exposure to 1 mg/L PS-NPs.

Background: The gut microbiome compositions of osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients have been revealed; however, the functional genomics, particularly antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and virulence factor genes (VFGs), have not yet been explored.
Methods: We used gut metagenomic data to elucidate the distribution of ARGs and VFGs. Building on these differences in gut microbiome, we developed a diagnostic model using a random forest classifier based on ARG and VFG abundances.
