Regulation of gut microbiota and its impact on human health is the theme of intensive research. The incidence and prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) are continuously escalating as the global population ages and chronic disease survival rates increase; however, the mechanisms are not entirely clarified. It is gaining awareness that alterations in the assembly, structure, and dynamics of gut microbiota are intimately engaged in the AF progression.

Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers in men. Although many diagnostic and treatment regimens have been followed in the treatment for lung cancer, increasing mortality rate due to lung cancer is depressing and hence requires alternative plant based therapeutics with with less side-effects. Myrtenol exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Henan Provincial Chest Hospital, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, Henan, China.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is a common type of ischemic heart disease that affects millions of people worldwide. In recent times, nanotechnology has become a very promising field with immense applications. The current exploration was conducted to synthesize the chitosan-sodium alginate-polyethylene glycol-Ally isothiocyanate nanocomposites (CSP-AIso-NCs) and evaluate their beneficial roles against the isoproterenol (ISO)-induced MI in rats.

Inflammatory microenvironment may take a promoting role in lung tumorigenesis. However, the molecular characteristics underlying inflammation-related lung cancer remains unknown. In this work, the inflammation-related lung tumorigenesis mouse model was established by treated with B(a)P (1 mg/mouse, once a week for 4 weeks), followed by LPS (2.

Metastasis is a leading cause of mortality in patients with lung adenocarcinoma. Histone deacetylases have emerged as promising targets for anti-tumor drugs, with histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) being an active area of research. However, the precise mechanisms by which HDACi inhibits lung cancer metastasis remain incompletely understood.

Retrospective analysis of COVID-19 among 391 hospitalized patients in the Henan province of China.

Medicine (Baltimore)

July 2023

Department of Clinical Pathology, Henan Provincial People's Hospital, Department of Clinical Pathology of Central China Fuwai Hospital, Central China Fuwai Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, Henan, China.

This study investigated the clinical characteristics and risk factors of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in patients in designated hospitals (Port Hospital) in the Henan province. A total of 391 COVID-19 patients with complete case information from August 6, 2021 to February 26, 2022 were selected. Logistic regression was used to analyze the differences between the clinical types, ages, and sex of the patients.

Benzo(a)pyrene-7,8-dihydrodiol-9,10-epoxide (BPDE), the metabolite of environmental pollutant benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P) could induce pulmonary toxicity and inflammation. SIRT1, an NAD -dependent histone deacetylase, is known to regulate inflammation in the occurrence and development of various diseases, but its effects on BPDE-induced acute lung injury are still unknown. The present study aimed to explore the role of SIRT1 in BPDE-induced acute lung injury.

Objective: Neointimal hyperplasia is the primary mechanism underlying atherosclerosis and restenosis after percutaneous coronary intervention. Ketogenic diet (KD) exerts beneficial effects in various diseases, but whether it could serve as non-drug therapy for neointimal hyperplasia remains unknown. This study aimed to investigate the effect of KD on neointimal hyperplasia and the potential mechanisms.

Background: Data on outcomes following transcatheter aortic valve replacement with SAPIEN 3 in China is limited as it was approved by the National Medical Products since 2020. The present study was designed to collect clinical data on the SAPIEN 3 aortic valve in Chinese patients with bicuspid aortic valve and tricuspid aortic valve stenosis.

Methods: We analyzed the patient characteristics, procedural features and procedural outcomes of the first 438 patients (223 for bicuspid aortic valve and 215 tricuspid aortic valve) from 21 provinces in 74 sites treated with the SAPIEN 3 valve system for transcatheter aortic valve replacement between September 2020 and May 2022.

Feasibility and safety of expandable mediastinoscopic and laparoscopic radical esophagectomy.

Front Oncol

April 2023

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Henan Provincial Chest Hospital, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, Henan, China.

Background: At present, minimally invasive radical esophagectomy is the main surgical method for esophageal cancer treatment, but it has inherent limitations. We have developed a novel method of radical esophagectomy without thoracotomy to improve this situation, namely, by using EMLE. We evaluated the feasibility and safety of expandable mediastinoscopic and laparoscopic radical esophagectomy (EMLE) through a retrospective analysis.

Background: The patients with tuberculosis-destroyed lungs often have heavy adhesion in the affected side of the pleural cavity and abundant collateral circulation, which bring about considerable challenges to surgical treatment. Some patients with tuberculosis-destroyed lungs will have hemoptysis symptoms. In clinical work, we found that patients with hemoptysis before surgery due to hemoptysis through regional artery occlusion treatment often have less bleeding during surgery, and it is relatively easy to stop bleeding during surgery, and the operation time is short.

Asthma is an important pulmonary disease associated with T helper lymphocyte (Th)2 dominant immune response, which can initiate allergic and inflammatory reactions. Interleukin (IL)-10 is the main immune suppressor cytokine, and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have an immune-modulatory potential that can be transduced with the expression of the IL-10 gene to control pathophysiology of allergic asthma. Bone marrow's MSCs were isolated and transduced with the expression vector that contains the expressible IL-10 gene.

Serum Proteomics Identifies Biomarkers Associated With the Pathogenesis of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Mol Cell Proteomics

April 2023

State Key Laboratory of Cell Differentiation and Regulation, Henan International Joint Laboratory of Pulmonary Fibrosis, Henan Center for Outstanding Overseas Scientists of Pulmonary Fibrosis, College of Life Sciences, Institute of Biomedical Science, Henan Normal University, Xinxiang, Henan, China. Electronic address:

The heterogeneity of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) limits its diagnosis and treatment. The association between the pathophysiological features and the serum protein signatures of IPF currently remains unclear. The present study analyzed the specific proteins and patterns associated with the clinical parameters of IPF based on a serum proteomic dataset by data-independent acquisition using MS.

Background: Although chest tube-omitted video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has been proven to be safe and efficacious, its universal application is precluded by a varying morbidity rate due to a lack of standardization. Since digital chest drainage has already shown improved accuracy and consistency in the management of postoperative air leak, we incorporated it in the strategy of intraoperative chest tube withdrawal, aiming to achieve better results.

Methods: We collected the clinical data of 114 consecutive patients who underwent elective uniportal VATS pulmonary wedge resection at the Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital from May 2021 to February 2022.
