Plastics are versatile, however, nonbiodegradable polymers that are primarily derived from fossil fuels and pose notable environmental challenges. However, biopolymers, such as polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), poly(lactic acid), starch, and cellulose have emerged as sustainable alternatives to conventional plastics. Among these, PHAs stand out as strong contenders as they are completely bio-based and biodegradable and are synthesized by microbes as an energy reserve under stress conditions.

In India, the Trans-Himalayan zone lies in the rain shadow of the main Himalayan region and is usually described as a "high-altitude cold desert". These regions are represented by sparse but unique vegetation composition. The present study is an attempt to investigate the vegetation composition in the alpine ecosystem of the cold desert landscape of the Nelang Valley in Western Himalayas (Uttarakhand), India.

A diabetic wound is one of the most devastating difficulties associated with diabetes and leads to significant death and morbidity. Hence, the aim was to make Doxycycline-loaded chitosan nanoparticles (DOX-CNPs) using ionic gelation with a cross-linking technique. In the Box-Behnken design, the DOX-CNPs were optimized by considering the effects of the following 3 variables independently, namely chitosan, sodium tripolyphosphate in volume ratio, strength of chitosan and sodium tripolyphosphate, among several response variables related to nanoparticle properties.

Introduction: Dental caries, caused by oral microbial pathogens, are a global health concern, further exacerbated by the presence of methicillin-resistant (MRSA). Bioactive proteins and peptides (BAPs) exhibit potent antimicrobial properties, targeting multiple cellular mechanisms within pathogens, reducing the likelihood of resistance development. Given the antimicrobial potential of BAPs, this study aimed to compare the efficacy of BAPs extracted from cultivated (, PoC) and wild (, PoW) mushrooms against pathogens responsible for dental caries.

In the current study, it was intended to prepare liquisolid tablets of pioglitazone HCl to improve the bioavailability and dissolution time of the drug, as it has low solubility in water. Mathematical formulas were adopted, and the quantities of the carrier (MCC), coating material (colloidal silicon dioxides), and nonvolatile liquid vehicle (Tween 80) were taken. Various ratios of the drug to liquid and carrier to coating had been used in the formulation of liquisolid compacts.

Methanotrophs are bacteria that consume methane (CH) as their sole carbon and energy source. These microorganisms play a crucial role in the carbon cycle by metabolizing CH (the greenhouse gas), into cellular biomass and carbon dioxide (CO). Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are biopolymers produced by various microorganisms, including methanotrophs.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) prevalence is increasing annually and affects over a third of US adults. MASLD can progress to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), characterized by severe hepatocyte injury, inflammation, and eventual advanced fibrosis or cirrhosis. MASH is predicted to become the primary cause of liver transplant by 2030.

This study evaluated the dark-fermentative hydrogen (H) production potential of isolated and identified Shigella flexneri SPD1 from various pure (glucose, fructose, sucrose, lactose, and galactose) and biowastes (coconut coir, cotton fiber, groundnut shells, rice-, and wheat-straws)-derived sugars. Among sugars, S. flexneri SPD1 exhibited high H production of up to 3.

Upgrading biomass-derived bioethanol to higher-order alcohols using conventional biotechnological approaches is challenging. Herein, a novel, magnetic metal-organic-framework-based cofactor regeneration system was developed using ethanol dehydrogenase (EtDH:D46G), NADH oxidase (NOX), formolase (FLS:L482S), and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) for converting rice straw-derived bioethanol to acetoin. A magnetic zeolitic imidazolate framework-8@FeO/NAD (ZIF-8@FeO/NAD) regeneration system for cell-free cascade reactions was introduced and used to encapsulate EtDH:D46G, NOX, and FLS:L482S (ENF).

Cyclodextrins (CDs) are unique cyclic compounds that can form inclusion complexes via host-guest complexation with a wide range of molecules, thereby altering their physicochemical properties. These molecules offer the formation of inclusion complexes without the formation of covalent bonds, making them suitable for a variety of applications in pharmaceutical and biomedical fields. Due to their supramolecular host-guest properties, CDs are being utilized in the fabrication of biomaterials, metal-organic frameworks, and nano-drug carriers.

Hydrogen (H), a clean and versatile energy carrier, has recently gained significant attention as a potential solution for reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable energy systems. The yield and efficiency of the biological H production process primarily depend on sterilization conditions. Various strategies, such as heat inactivation and membrane-based sterilization, have been used to achieve desirable yields via microbial fermentation.

Cancer treatment modalities and their progression is guided by the specifics of cancer, including its type and site of localization. Surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy are the most often used conventional treatments. Conversely, emerging treatment techniques include immunotherapy, hormone therapy, anti-angiogenic therapy, dendritic cell-based immunotherapy, and stem cell therapy.

Obesity is a growing epidemic affecting millions of people worldwide and a major risk factor for a multitude of chronic diseases and premature mortality. Accumulating evidence suggests that mitochondria have a profound role in diet-induced obesity and the associated metabolic changes, but the molecular mechanisms linking mitochondria to obesity remain poorly understood. Our studies have identified a new function for mitochondrial MUL1 E3 ubiquitin ligase, a protein known to regulate mitochondrial dynamics and mitophagy, in the control of energy metabolism and lipogenesis.

Chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment (CICI), also known as "chemobrain," is a common side effect of breast cancer therapy which causes oxidative stress and generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Ferulic acid (FA), a natural polyphenol, belongs to BCS class II is confirmed to have nootropic, neuroprotective and antioxidant effects. Here, we have developed FA solid dispersion (SD) in order to enhance its therapeutic potential against chemobrain.

Introduction: The differential expression of emotional reactivity from early to late adulthood may involve maturation of prefrontal cortical responses to negative valence stimuli. In mice, age-related changes in affective behaviors have been reported, but the functional neural circuitry warrants further investigation.
Methods: We assessed age variations in affective behaviors and functional connectivity in male and female C57BL6/J mice.
