Clinical Evaluation of Balance in Children With Hemophilic Arthropathy.

Purpose: Hemophilia is a hereditary coagulation disorder characterized by acute hemorrhages into the musculoskeletal system, leading eventually to arthropathy and disability. Chronic inflammation of the synovial membrane arises as a result of frequent joint hemorrhage. Proteolytic enzymes in the blood and cartilage cause deterioration after that, and joint space narrows.

Hepatitis A virus age-specific seroprevalence after the implementation of a Toddlers' Vaccination in Turkey: Shifting susceptibility to adolescents.

Aim: In Turkey, improvements in sanitation and the implementation of a vaccination program resulted in reduced rates of childhood exposure to hepatitis A virus. The incidence of symptoms and the complications of the disease are known to be increased in later ages. We aimed to describe changes in the seroprevalence of hepatitis A virus from the pre-vaccine era (2012) to the post-vaccine era (2018) in different age groups.

Assessment of the nutritional status of children according to maternal reports: Are mothers' perceptions of their children's appetite accurate?

Introduction: This study determined whether there is a difference in the nutritional status of children with good and poor appetites, as reported by their mothers.

Methods: In all, 70 volunteer mothers of children aged 6-60 months participated in the study. Information about the nutrition of the child was obtained from the mothers via a questionnaire.

Cross-sectional study: long term follow-up care for pediatric cancer survivors in a developing country, Turkey: current status, challenges, and future perspectives.

Aim: The main purpose of this study is to determine the current status of long-term follow-up (LTFU) for childhood cancer survivors and the challenges of LTFU for pediatric cancer survivors at pediatric oncology institutions in Turkey.

Material And Methods: A questionnaire was e-mailed to the directors of 33 pediatric oncology centers (POCs) registered in the Turkish Pediatric Oncology Group (TPOG). Of these 33 active TPOG institutions, 21 participated in the study and returned their completed questionnaires.

Objective: Continued progress in our understanding of the food protein-induced allergic proctocolitis (FPIAP) will provide the development of diagnostic tests and treatments. Celiac disease and hematological abnormalities in children with recurrent aphthous stomatitis.

Background: Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is one of the most common diseases of the oral mucosa and may be related to vitamin deficiencies or systemic diseases such as celiac disease (CD). The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of hematinic deficiency and CD in children with RAS.

Methods: The medical records of patients diagnosed with RAS were reviewed for the presence of hematinic deficiencies (hemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume, ferritin, vitamin B , folic acid), and CD.

Correlates of Problematic Internet Use among college and university students in eight countries: An international cross-sectional study.

Background And Aims: Internet use has increased worldwide exponentially over the past two decades, with no up-to-date cross-country comparison of Problematic Internet Use (PIU) and its correlates available. The present study aimed to explore the pattern and correlates of PIU across different countries in the European and the Asian continent. Further, the stability of factors associated with PIU across different countries were assessed.

Background: Adolescents with eating disorders (EDs) may present not only with abnormal eating behaviors but also with abnormal drinking behaviors varying widely. Method: We present a 16-year-old female adolescent with anorexia nervosa restrictive type and major depressive disorder who was hospitalized due to acute food refusal and developed generalized seizures due to dilutional hyponatremia in consequence of consuming excessive amount of water.

A variety of conditions may affect the trigeminal nerve. Magnetic resonance imaging is the modality of choice when trigeminal nerve pathology is suspected, and this modality plays an essential role in detecting causes. This review illustrates some of the pathological conditions relevant to the trigeminal nerve in magnetic resonance imaging.

Can Freehand Elastosonography Be an Alternative to Renal Scintigraphy in Pediatric Vesicoureteral Reflux Cases?

Introduction:  Detecting renal scar is important in pediatric patients with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) for deciding on treatment option. The aim of this study is to detect whether freehand elastosonography technique could be an alternative to dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scan in determining renal scar formation.

Materials And Methods:  Between November 2015 and April 2016, 25 VUR patients, age ranging from 3 to 17 years admitted to our clinic, had urinary ultrasound and elastosonography, and data of approximately 147 renal region were recorded.

Prevalence of ZnT8 Antibody in Turkish Children and Adolescents with New Onset Type 1 Diabetes.

Objective: Zinc transporter 8 protein (ZnT8A) is a transmembrane protein which functions to transfer zinc to insulin vesicles. Antibodies formed against ZnT8A (ZnT8A) are regarded as an independent autoimmunity demonstrator in type 1 diabetes (T1D). The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of ZnT8A in Turkish children with new onset T1D.

Brugada-Phenocopy Induced by Propafenone Overdose and Successful Treatment: A Case Report.

Background: Brugada syndrome is an inherited arrhythmogenic disease that may cause sudden cardiac death due to ventricular fibrillation in young adults. Brugada syndrome caused by propafenone intoxication has been noted rarely in the literature. We report a rare case, Brugada phenocopy due to propafenone intoxication and its treatment.

Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia in Turkey: A Retrospective Analysis of Sixty-five Patients.

Objective: This study aimed to define the status of juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML) patients in Turkey in terms of time of diagnosis, clinical characteristics, mutational studies, clinical course, and treatment strategies.

Materials And Methods: Data including clinical and laboratory characteristics and treatment strategies of JMML patients were collected retrospectively from pediatric hematology-oncology centers in Turkey.

Results: Sixty-five children with JMML diagnosed between 2002 and 2016 in 18 institutions throughout Turkey were enrolled in the study.

Background: Fever is a reliable sign of illness, but it also evokes fear and anxiety. It is not the fever itself but the fear of possible complications and accompanying symptoms that is important for pediatricians and parents.

Focal Nodulary Hyperplasia of the Liver Due to Congenital Portosystemic Shunt: A Rare Condition Mimicking Hepatocellulary Carcinoma.

Congenital portosystemic shunts are rare vascular malformations that lead to several complications including liver tumors, pulmonary hypertension, and metabolic encephalopathy. We describe a rare case of a 17-year-old girl with an extrahepatic portosystemic shunt presenting recurrent syncope episodes and a liver mass mimicking hepatocellulary carcinoma.
