Glioblastoma (GBM) is one of the most aggressive types of brain cancer, characterized by its poor prognosis and low survival rate despite current treatment modalities. Because GBM is lethal, clarifying the pathogenesis's underlying mechanisms is important, which are still poorly understood. Recent discoveries in the fields of molecular genetics and cancer biology have demonstrated the critical role that non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), especially long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), play in the molecular pathophysiology of GBM growth.

Department of Pretreatment and Finishing of Cellulosic Based Textiles, Textile Research and Technology Institute, National Research Centre, Scopus Affiliation ID 60014618, 33 EL Buhouth St., Dokki, Giza, 12622, Egypt.

The current study represents a unique fabrication strategy for preparation of fluorescent hydrogels via incorporation of fluorescent quantum dots (QDs) as fluorophore entities into chitosan as a gelling matrix. QDs identified as carbon quantum dots (CQDs) & nitrogen containing carbon quantum dots (NCQDs) were preliminary synthesized from cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and cationic cellulose nanocrystals (CCNCs), respectively. Cationic CNCs was prepared via chemical grafting with poly-di-allyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (CNCs-g-poly-DADMAC) through free chain polymerization reaction.

The rapid increase in renewable energy integration and electric vehicle (EV) adoption creates significant challenges for the stability and efficiency of power distribution networks. This study addresses the need for optimized placement and sizing of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCSs), photovoltaic (PV) systems, and Distribution Static Compensators (DSTATCOMs) to enhance grid performance. The motivation for this work arises from the fluctuating nature of renewable energy generation and the unpredictable demands of EV charging, which strain existing infrastructure.

Estrogen: the forgotten player in metaflammation.

Front Pharmacol

November 2024

West China School of Pharmacy, West China School of Basic Medical Sciences and Forensic Medicine, West China School of Public Health and West China Fourth Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Metaflammation is low-grade inflammation triggered by chronic metabolic imbalance and caused by dysregulated metabolites in metabolic inflammatory syndrome (MIS), which includes four diseases: obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), atherosclerosis (AS), and nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD, recently proposed to be replaced by metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, MASLD). These diseases exhibit apparent sex dimorphism as regards MIS. Estrogen not only plays a crucial role in gender differences in adults but also possesses an anti-inflammatory effect on many metabolic diseases.

Department of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology, Faculty of Technology and Education, Helwan University, 11282, Cairo, Egypt.

In the present investigation, the exergy of an innovative technique involving the integration of curved helical tubes with twisted passages was experimentally presented. This technique aims to improve the thermofluid characteristics by involving the swirl intensity of fluid flow in a twisted tube helical coil (TTHC). Six identical geometries with different pitch ratios Υ of 36 mm, 54 mm, and ∞ (smooth/no twisted) were experimentally explored at two different inner tube profiles of triangular and square cross-sections in counter flow arrangements.

  • The study investigated the expression of VEGFRs, PDGFRs, and c-Kit in pediatric patients with high-grade non-rhabdomyosarcoma soft tissue sarcoma (NRSTS) to understand their impact on growth, invasion, and treatment outcomes.
  • Out of 113 pediatric patients analyzed, about one-third showed high expression of PDGFRα, while other markers had lower expression rates; high PDGFRα and VEGFR2 were notably associated with poorer survival rates.
  • The results suggest that these tyrosine kinase receptors are upregulated in NRSTS, indicating a potential for targeted therapies to improve outcomes in affected patients.

Energy saving analysis for pump-motor set in water purification plant using variable speed drive.

Sci Rep

November 2024

Department of Electrical Power and Machines Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt.

The induction motor is known to be the most reliable motor in the industry and is also the most energy-consuming load worldwide. It is noticeable in some production areas that the use of a high-capacity induction motor is not required at some operating times, and therefore it is important to control the speed of the induction motor to suit the operating requirements and obtain highly efficient performance. This paper presents a case study of a drinking water purification plant that uses a variable speed drive (VSD) as a speed controller for one of its induction motors to drive the pump.

January 2025

SESC, Smart Engineering Research Centre, Nile University, Giza, Egypt; Civil & Construction Engineering, School of Engineering & Applied Science, Nile University, Giza, Egypt. Electronic address:

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) geofoam blocks are gaining acceptance across industries due to their low density, insulation properties, strength, compressibility, and shock absorption under dynamic loads. The effective application of EPS is impeded by restrictions imposed by using conventional polymer-based synthetic geomembrane insulation ought for protection. Meanwhile, the production process of the geomembrane has detrimental environmental impacts, incurs high costs, and limits the utilization of EPS blocks in various applications.
