Objectives: To compare the treatment effectiveness of secukinumab in radiographic (r) versus non-radiographic (nr) axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) patients treated in routine care across Europe.
Methods: Prospectively collected data on secukinumab-treated axSpA patients with known radiographic status were pooled from nine countries.Remission rates based on patient-reported outcomes (PROs; Numeric Rating Scale (0-10), for example, pain ≤2/Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) ≤2 and Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Score (ASDAS) inactive disease (ID) <1.

Background: Patients with hemophilia have a life-long risk of developing neutralizing antibodies (inhibitors) against clotting factor concentrates. After the first 50 exposure days (EDs), ie, in previously treated patients (PTPs), data on inhibitor development are limited.
Objectives: To report inhibitor development according to factor (F)VIII or FIX concentrate use in PTPs with severe hemophilia A and B.

Tumor necrosis has been reported to represent an independent prognostic factor in colorectal cancer, but its evaluation methods have not been described in sufficient detail to introduce tumor necrosis evaluation into clinical use. To study the potential of tumor necrosis as a prognostic indicator in colorectal cancer, criteria for 3 methods for its evaluation were defined: the average percentage method (tumor necrosis percentage of the whole tumor), the hotspot method (tumor necrosis percentage in a single hotspot), and the linear method (the diameter of the single largest necrotic focus). Cox regression models were used to calculate cancer-specific mortality hazard ratios (HRs) for tumor necrosis categories in 2 colorectal cancer cohorts with more than 1800 cases.

Phthalates are endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) found in common consumer products such as soft plastics and cosmetics. Although the knowledge regarding the adverse effects of phthalates on female fertility are accumulating, information on the hormone sensitive endometrium is still scarce. Here, we studied the effects of phthalates on endometrial cell proliferation and gene expression.

Introduction: Psychiatric patients suffer from oral diseases and side effects of antipsychotic medication. In particular, the typical antipsychotic drugs may cause severe hyposalivation with subsequent oral symptoms. We therefore aimed to compare oral health behavior and oral side effects of in-hospital patients taking typical vs.

Although knowledge of the role of the oral microbiome in ischemic stroke is steadily increasing, little is known about the multikingdom microbiota interactions and their consequences. We enrolled participants from a prospective multicentre case-control study and investigated multikingdom microbiome differences using saliva metagenomic datasets ( = 308) from young patients diagnosed with cryptogenic ischemic stroke (CIS) and age- and sex-matched stroke-free controls. Differentially abundant taxa were identified using Analysis of Compositions of Microbiomes with Bias Correction (ANCOM-BC2).

Aim: To report local tumour control, metastasis and survival rates of patients with small choroidal melanoma (CM) after treatment with ruthenium-106 (Ru-106) plaque brachytherapy.
Methods: Retrospective case series of 353 consecutive eyes with small CM (thickness ≤2.5 mm and largest basal diameter ≤16 mm) treated with Ru-106 brachytherapy at the London Ocular Oncology Service, between October 2004 and May 2019.

Background: Injections of botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) have been proposed as an additional treatment modality for patients suffering chronic temporomandibular disorder (TMD)-related myofascial pain (MFP). BoNT-A impairs muscle function, along with its analgesic effect, and a minimal effective dose should be used. The objective of this randomized placebo-controlled crossover study was to evaluate the clinical benefit of a moderate dose (50 U) of BoNT-A.

Background: Variations in the innate and adaptive immune response systems are linked to variations in the severity of COVID-19. Natural killer cell (NK) function is regulated by sophisticated receptor system including Killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) family. We aimed to investigate the impact of possessing certain KIR genes and genotypes on COVID19 severity in Iranians.

Objective: BEST-CLI, an international randomised trial, compared an initial strategy of bypass surgery with endovascular treatment in chronic limb threatening ischaemia (CLTI). In this substudy, overall amputation rates and risk of major amputation as an initial or subsequent outcome were evaluated.
Methods: A total of 1 830 patients were randomised to receive surgical or endovascular treatment in two parallel cohorts: patients with adequate single segment great saphenous vein (SSGSV) (n = 1 434) were assigned to cohort 1; and patients without adequate SSGSV (n = 396) were assigned to cohort 2.

Background: Peripheral osteochondral tumors are common, and the management of tumors presenting in the pelvis is challenging and a controversial topic. Some have suggested that cartilage cap thickness may indicate malignant potential, but this supposition is not well validated.
Questions/purposes: (1) How accurate is preoperative biopsy in determining whether a peripheral cartilage tumor of the pelvis is benign or malignant? (2) Is the thickness of the cartilage cap as determined by MRI associated with the likelihood that a given peripheral cartilage tumor is malignant? (3) What is local recurrence-free survival (LRFS), metastasis-free survival (MFS), and disease-specific survival (DSS) in peripheral chondrosarcoma of the pelvis and is it associated with surgical margin?
Methods: Between 2005 and 2022, 289 patients had diagnoses of peripheral cartilage tumors of the pelvis (either pedunculated or sessile) and were treated at one tertiary sarcoma center (the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham, UK).

Malnutrition in older people has been considered as a health concern associated with a range of implications for health and functional ability. However, evidence of nutrition and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among older people is limited. The aim of this study was to study the associations between nutritional status and HRQoL among home-dwelling older adults aged 75 years.

Objective: Persistent physical symptoms (PPS) represent a major health problem affecting daily functioning. This RCT aimed to examine whether a guided Internet-based treatment based on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) provided additional benefits compared to Treatment as Usual (TAU) in reducing somatic complaints and psychological distress in adults with PPS.
Methods: A total of 103 adults with PPS related to indoor environments, chronic fatigue or both conditions were assigned to receive either either a 14-week intervention (video-based case conceptualization + Internet-based ACT) combined with TAU (iACT + TAU; n = 50) or TAU alone (n = 53).

Previous genome-wide association and replication study for job-related exhaustion indicated a risk variant, rs13219957 in the UST gene. Epidemiological studies suggest connection of stress-related conditions and dementia risk. Therefore, we first studied association of rs13219957 and register-based incident dementia using survival models in the Finnish National FINRISK study surveys (N = 26,693).

Introduction: Insomnia is a common symptom among patients with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, negatively impacting symptom severity, functioning and well-being; however, it is rarely the direct focus of treatment. The main recommended treatment for insomnia is cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT-I). There is some evidence that CBT-I can also be used to treat insomnia in patients with schizophrenia, but only a few randomised controlled trials (RCTs) have been published.

Background: Lymphedema is a chronic condition, characterized by fluid buildup and tissue swelling and is caused by impairment of the lymphatic system. The lymph interpositional flap transfer technique, in which lymph flow is restored with a flap that includes subdermal lymphatic channels, is an option for surgical reconstruction. The superficial circumflex iliac artery perforator (SCIP) flap can be used for this purpose.
