This review is focused on the effects of lingonberry ( L.) fruit phenolic compounds in human in vitro cells and in vivo clinical studies. Studies with lingonberries, lingonberry juice/lingonberry nectar/fermented lingonberry juice, and phenolic fractions with active molecules are reviewed.

Effects of Obesity and Exercise on Hepatic and Pancreatic Lipid Content and Glucose Metabolism: PET Studies in Twins Discordant for BMI.

Obesity and sedentarism are associated with increased liver and pancreatic fat content (LFC and PFC, respectively) as well as impaired organ metabolism. Exercise training is known to decrease organ ectopic fat but its effects on organ metabolism are unclear. Genetic background affects susceptibility to obesity and the response to training.

Factors Influencing the Timing of Ovarian Tissue Cryopreservation in Young Girls.

The aim of this study was to identify pitfalls in ovarian tissue cryopreservation protocol from referral to surgical procedure and to analyze factors associated with chemotherapy exposure of the cryopreserved tissue and decreased ovarian function in a cohort of young girls at high risk of infertility. The study population comprised 200 girls eligible for ovarian tissue cryopreservation between 2002 and 2020 at the Children's Hospital of the University Central Hospital of Helsinki (Finland). Analyses included evaluation of the proportion of patients who underwent ovarian tissue cryopreservation, factors associated with patient selection and timing of ovarian tissue cryopreservation, and ovarian function during long-term follow-up in relation to oncological treatments.

The effect of calcium hydroxide and double antibiotic paste on radiographic outcomes and periapical MMP-8 levels in regenerative endodontic procedures: a randomized clinical trial.

Objective: The primary goal is to evaluate the effects of two different intracanal medicaments, calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] and double antibiotic paste (DAP), on radiographic outcomes during regenerative endodontic procedures (REP) of immature permanent mandibular first molars with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and symptomatic apical periodontitis (SIP/SAP). Additionally, the secondary goal was to evaluate MMP-8 levels during REP using two different intracanal medicaments.

Methodology: The study included 20 patients with immature mandibular first molars exhibiting SIP/SAP.

Aims: Rotator cuff disease (RCD) can considerably decrease quality of life. Here, we investigated whether health-related quality of life (HRQoL) influences the need for surgery in patients with RCD.

Methods: We performed an analysis of 417 patients with symptomatic RCD who were recruited from two hospitals between June 2008 and December 2014 to be randomized to receive non-surgical or surgical treatment.

Objectives: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with increased mortality. Previous studies have reported conflicting results in temporal trends of mortality after AF diagnosis. Introduction: Diabetes is linked to neurodegenerative diseases (NDs), but data in type 1 diabetes are scarce. Our aim was to assess the standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) of different NDs in type 1 diabetes, and to evaluate the impact of diabetic vascular complications and age at diabetes onset.

Research Design And Methods: In this observational cohort study, we included 4261 individuals with type 1 diabetes from the Finnish Diabetic Nephropathy study, and 11 653 matched population-based controls without diabetes.

Lynch syndrome-associated and sporadic microsatellite unstable colorectal cancers: different patterns of clonal evolution yield highly similar tumours.

Microsatellite unstable colorectal cancer (MSI-CRC) can arise through germline mutations in mismatch repair (MMR) genes in individuals with Lynch syndrome (LS), or sporadically through promoter methylation of the MMR gene MLH1. Despite the different origins of hereditary and sporadic MSI tumours, their genomic features have not been extensively compared. A prominent feature of MMR-deficient genomes is the occurrence of many indels in short repeat sequences, an understudied mutation type due to the technical challenges of variant calling in these regions.

The objective of the current study was to evaluate the clinical utility of bruxism episode index in predicting the level of masticatory muscle pain intensity. The study involved adults (n = 220) recruited from the Outpatient Clinic of Temporomandibular Disorders at the Department of Experimental Dentistry, Wroclaw Medical University, during the period 2017-2022. Economic aspects of prolonged home video-EEG monitoring: a simulation study.

Introduction: Video EEG monitoring (VEM) is an important tool for characterizing clinical events suspected as seizures. It is also used for pre-surgical workups in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE). In-hospital VEM high cost, long admission waiting periods and some other inconveniences led to an interest in home VEM (HVEM).

Patients And Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 115 patients who received intravesical Gem/Doce for high-risk NMIBC between January 2011 and December 2021. Data were computed as the median (interquartile range [IQR]) or mean (standard deviation [sd]).

Diagnosing new-onset asthma in a paediatric clinical trial setting in school-age children.

Asthma is a common chronic disease in children. It is a dynamic condition-symptoms change over time, and the outcome of diagnostic tests can vary. Consequently, evaluating the onset of asthma at a single point in time, perhaps when patients are asymptomatic with limited impairment of the lung function, may result in false diagnostic conclusions.

Association of rheumatoid factor, anti-citrullinated protein antibodies and shared epitope with clinical response to initial treatment in patients with early rheumatoid arthritis: data from a randomised controlled trial.

Objectives: To investigate whether rheumatoid factor (RF), anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPAs) and shared epitope (SE) allele-related genetic markers associate with treatment response to abatacept, certolizumab pegol or tocilizumab versus active conventional treatment (ACT).

Methods: Patients with treatment-naïve early rheumatoid arthritis were randomised in the NORD-STAR trial to ACT, certolizumab pegol, abatacept or tocilizumab, all with methotrexate. Centralised laboratory analyses for ACPA, RF and SE were performed.
