Swimming goggles (SG) are widely used in water sports, and this study aimed to evaluate the acute effects of wearing SG on intraocular pressure (IOP), anterior chamber biometrics, axial length (AL), and optic nerve head (ONH) morphology. Twenty-eight healthy young adults participated in this cross-sectional study, with assessed parameters including IOP, central corneal thickness (CCT), anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber angle (ACA), AL, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging of the ONH, specifically Bruch membrane opening (BMO), Bruch membrane opening-minimum rim width (BMO-MRW), lamina cribrosa depth (LCD), and prelaminar tissue (PLT). Purpose: The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the tolerance and feasibility of using virtual reality headsets with patients during interventional radiology procedures.

Material And Method: In this single-center prospective study, the use of a virtual reality headset in addition to the usual analgesic and anxiolytic treatment was proposed to all patients presenting in the interventional radiology department from December 2020 to June 2022. Exclusion criteria were as follows: (1) patients with whom it was not possible to communicate (2) epileptic patients, (3) non-verbal patients, and (4) pregnant women.

The authors present the case of a fatal accident of a 16-year-old skier who crashed into a tree during a downhill skiing lesson at school. Although the skier was wearing a protective helmet at the time of the accident and his condition did not appear to be too serious immediately after the accident, he later died in hospital as a result of a craniocerebral injury with cerebral contusion and intracranial haemorrhage. His life could not be saved even by immediate neurosurgery, during which fragments of the broken protective helmet were removed from his cranial cavity.

Chronic health risks associated with firefighting continue to be documented and studied, however, the complexity of occupational exposures and the relationship between occupational exposure and contaminated personal protective equipment (PPE) remains unknown. Recent work has revealed that common PPE cleaning practices, which are becoming increasingly more common in the fire service, are not effective in removing certain contaminants, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), from PPE. To better understand the relationship between contaminated firefighter PPE and potential exposure to PAHs, and to gain further understanding of the efficacy of cleaning practices, we used a standardized fire exposure simulator that created repeatable conditions and measured PPE surface contamination levels via wipe sampling and filters attached to firefighter gear worn by standing mannequins.
