Femoral nerve palsy secondary to iliopsoas non-traumatic haematoma is a scarce complication with a treatment approach that remains controversial between conservative and surgical intervention. We present a case of a 64-year-old male patient under warfarin medication, who developed severe left hip and anterior thigh pain and femoral nerve palsy with no history of trauma. Laboratory studies revealed a prolonged international normalized ratio level of 4.

Even experienced orthopaedic surgeons may have not come across this entity during their careers. We report a misdiagnosed case of a 65-year-old male who underwent a motorcycle accident and was surgically treated six months post-injury.

Background: The differences in histopathology and molecular biology between right colon cancer (RCC) and left colon cancer (LCC) were first reported in the literature by Bufill in 1990. Since then, a large number of studies have confirmed their differences in epidemiology, clinical presentation, comorbidities and biological behaviours, which may be related to the difference in prognosis and overall survival (OS) between the two groups.
Aim: To investigate statistically significant differences between Greek patients with LCC and RCC.
Purpose The treatment of painful and chronic dislocated hip in children with severe cerebral palsy (CP) is particularly demanding and controversial. Numerous surgical techniques have been described, and their outcomes vary a lot. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate a new method, which combines varus derotational subtrochanteric osteotomy (VDSO) and external osteosynthesis: (VDSOEO).

We systematically reviewed the literature regarding the impact of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4i) on vascular function, including endothelial function and arterial stiffness, as predictors of atherosclerosis progression and cardiovascular disease in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We searched PubMed in order to identify clinical trials that investigated the effect of DPP-4i on vascular function in patients with T2DM when compared with placebo. Although 168 articles were initially found, only 6 studies (total 324 patients) investigated the effect of DPP-4i in comparison with placebo, specifically linagliptin and sitagliptin, and satisfied the inclusion criteria.

The Bone Section of the Hellenic Endocrine Society has issued the recommendations herein presented with the aim of providing guidance on optimal management of patients with parathyroid disorders in everyday clinical practice within the Greek health care setting. Although the methodology followed to formulate these recommendations was not strictly based on the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) principles, they were drawn up after an extensive review of the literature and of the currently available guidelines for the management of parathyroid disorders worldwide. Specifically for primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), the 2011 guidelines of the Greek National Organization of Medicines were updated accordingly.

Derangements in phosphate and calcium homeostasis are common in patients with beta-thalassemia. Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) is among the main hormones regulating phosphate levels, while several studies underline an interplay between iron (Fe) and FGF23. Herein, we investigated, for the first time, the serum intact molecule (iFGF23) and the carboxyl-terminal fragment (C-FGF23) and Klotho levels simultaneously in patients with beta-thalassemia major receiving iron chelation regimens in comparison to healthy control subjects.

A 66-year-old female patient was admitted because of a sizable tumor at the right retroperitoneal space, incidentally discovered during abdominal ultrasonography for screening purpose.

Insulinomas are rare tumors of the islet cells of the pancreas and are the most common cause of endogenous hyperinsulinism. Although they usually present with symptoms of hypoglycemia, sometimes they can have vague symptoms. We present the case of a 62-year-old diabetic female who was diagnosed with a large insulinoma after being investigated for the 'cure' of her diabetes.

Purpose Of Review: The purpose of this review is to present the most important recent developments concerning biologics as a therapeutic option for chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS).
Recent Findings: mAb anti-IL-4 receptor α (Dupilumab) was recently approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for patients with CRSwNP and four other biologics are under investigation, with promising preliminary results.
Summary: CRS is a disease associated with a significant symptom burden and high-indirect costs.

Floating knee is a flail knee joint resulting from fractures of the shafts or adjacent metaphyses of the femur and ipsilateral tibia. Floating knee injuries may include a combination of diaphyseal, metaphyseal, and intra-articular fractures. Floating knee injuries are a group of complex injuries that require a careful assessment.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects 6-15% of women of reproductive age. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) affects 25-30% of the general population and its prevalence increases in parallel with the epidemics of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. A growing body of evidence suggests that NAFLD and PCOS quite often co-exist.

Introduction: Management of the Primary Membranous Nephropathy (PMN) usually involves administration of immunosuppressives. Cyclophosphamide (Cyclo) and Calcineurin Inhibitors (CNIs) are both widely used but only limited data exist to compare their efficacy in long term follow-up.
Aim: The aim of the present study was to estimate and compare long term effects of Cyclo and CNIs in patients with PMN.

The aim of this study was to study the molecular epidemiology of 16S rRNA-methylase (RMT)-producing clinical isolates from hospitals in Athens, Greece. Single-patient clinical isolates, coresistant to amikacin and gentamicin ( = 347), from five tertiary care hospitals, were submitted to minimum inhibitory concentration determination and molecular testing for carbapenemase and RMT genes. resistant to amikacin and gentamicin, was isolated at participating institutions at a mean rate of 67.

Background: Spheno-orbital meningiomas are complex tumours involving the sphenoid wing and orbit. Various surgical strategies are available but treatment remains challenging and patients often require more than one surgical procedure. This study evaluated whether smaller surgical approaches and newer reconstructive methods impacted the surgical and clinical outcomes of patients undergoing repeat surgery.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential effect of the methanolic extract of plant Glycyrrhiza glabra roots on bone mineral density and femoral bone strength of ovariectomized rats.
Methods: Thirty 10-month-old Wistar rats were randomly separated into three groups of ten, Control, Ovariectomy and Ovariectomy-plus-Glycyrrhiza in their drinking water. Total and proximal tibial bone mineral density was measured in all groups before ovariectomy (baseline) and after 3 and 6 months post ovariectomy.

Reconstruction of the central band of the interosseous membrane is an emerging procedure implemented in the treatment of longitudinal radioulnar dissociation (LRUD), usually in its chronic setting, after Essex-Lopresti injuries of the forearm. There are no sufficient clinical data to support reconstruction of the central band of the interosseous membrane in acute LRUD injuries.Clinical and cadaveric studies comparing autografts (palmaris longus, flexor carpi radialis and bone-patellar-bone), allografts (Achilles tendon) and synthetic ligaments have not shown superiority of one technique another; however, they have shown special concerns with respect to the use of synthetic grafts.
