Basal cell carcinoma is the most common malignant tumor in the fair-skinned population and its incidence continues to rise. An update of the S2k guideline with the participation of all specialist societies familiar with the clinical picture and previous literature research is of great importance for the quality of care for affected patients. In addition to epidemiology, diagnostics and histology are discussed.

Background CT perfusion (CTP)-derived baseline ischemic core volume (ICV) can overestimate the true extent of infarction, which may result in exclusion of patients with ischemic stroke from endovascular treatment (EVT). Purpose To determine whether ischemic core overestimation is associated with larger ICV and degree of recanalization. Materials and Methods This retrospective multicenter cohort study included patients with acute ischemic stroke triaged at multimodal CT who underwent EVT between January 2015 and January 2022.

Background: A sizeable proportion of stroke patients with large vessel occlusion present with minor neurological deficits. Whether mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is beneficial in these patients is controversial. We aimed to investigate factors of early neurological deterioration (END) in thrombectomy patients with minor stroke and hypothesized that END is linked to unfavorable functional outcomes.

Background: There is yet no randomized controlled evidence that mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is superior to best medical treatment in patients with large vessel occlusion but minor stroke symptoms (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) <6). Prior studies of patients with admission NIHSS scores 6 observed unfavorable functional outcomes despite successful recanalization, commonly termed as futile recanalization (FR), in up to 50% of cases.
Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of FR in patients with minor stroke and identify associated patient-specific risk factors.

Introduction: Tumor budding (TB) refers to the presence of small clusters of tumor cells at the invasive front of a malignant tumor. Single tumor cell invasion (SCI) is an extreme variant of TB, in which individual loose tumor cells are present at the invasive front. Both TB and SCI are important histomorphologic risk factors postulated to indicate loss of cellular cohesion.

Substance use disorders (SUDs) are severe psychiatric illnesses. Seed region and independent component analyses are currently the dominant connectivity measures but carry the risk of false negatives due to selection. They can be complemented by a data-driven and whole-brain usage of voxel-wise intrinsic measures (VIMs).

Introduction: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is one of the most common chronic skin conditions affecting about 20% of children and 5% of adults. However, the studies assessing novel therapies for AD have been focused mainly on paediatric patients and only few studies have involved adult participants.
Aim: To compare the treatment outcomes between the antihistamine monotherapy and combined intervention with an antihistamine agent and a cysteinyl leukotriene receptor antagonist in adult patients with atopic dermatitis.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) has been associated with changes in the processing of internal body signals, known as interoception. Changes in brain structure, particularly in the insula, are thought to underlie impaired interoception. As studies specifically investigating this association are largely lacking, this analysis takes an approach that compares meta-analytic results on interoception with recently published meta-analytic results on gray matter reduction in AUD.

Background: Little is known about delivery of neurosurgical care, complication rate and outcome of patients with high-grade glioma (HGG) during the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
Methods: This observational, retrospective cohort study analyzed routine administrative data of all patients admitted for neurosurgical treatment of an HGG within the Helios Hospital network in Germany. Data of the Covid-19 pandemic (March 1, 2020-May 31, 2022) were compared to the pre-pandemic period (January 1, 2016-February 29, 2020).

Chest-computer tomography (CT) is a crucial factor in the clinical course and evaluation of patients with COVID-pneumonia. In the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic little information was known on the prognostic value of the initially taken thoracic CTs. The purpose of this study was to determine predictive values for clinical outcome based on CT classification of the pulmonary pathologies in patients with COVID-pneumonia.

The aim of this study was to investigate the cellular changes induced by spontaneous/replicative senescence and radiation in human osteoblasts (OBs), and the impact of cultivation with nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) on apoptosis, senescence-associated β-galactosidase staining (SA β-gal), and senescence-related gene expression using RT Profiler PCR array. The results showed that replicative OB aging follows a different pattern from that of radiation-induced cellular senescence. SA β-gal intensity score showed a significant elevation after spontaneous replicative aging of OB (agiT1) 7 days following the start of the experiment, compared with their initial control condition (T0) (T0 = 2.

Background: Gliomas are tumours arising mostly from astrocytic or oligodendrocytic precursor cells. These tumours are classified according to the updated WHO classification from 2021 in 4 grades depending on molecular and histopathological criteria. Despite novel multimodal therapeutic approaches, the vast majority of gliomas (WHO grade III and IV) are not curable.

The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a biological mechanism in multiple pathophysiological diseases. Related alterations in cadherin expression play a crucial role in carcinogenesis, progression, angiogenesis, and immune response. EMT cells exhibit a transition from an epithelial to a mesenchymal phenotype (cadherin-switch).
