The Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) represents a topic of great concern. We report the case of a patient with late-onset seroma, who was initially diagnosed with an implant-related infection of the breast due to microbial detection in the seroma fluid, thus delaying the diagnosis of BIA-ALCL.

Objective: Atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter (AF) and heart failure (HF) often go hand in hand and, in combination, lead to an increased risk of death compared with patients with just one of both entities. Sex-specific differences in patients with AF and HF are under-reported. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate sex-specific catheter ablation (CA) use and acute in-hospital outcomes in patients with AF and concomitant HF in a retrospective cohort study.

Due to maturation of joints, various changes take place, not only in the field of paediatric rheumatology but also in paediatric orthopaedics musculoskeletal ultrasound plays an important role in both the diagnosis and the follow-up of diseases in this field. To differentiate between physiological and pathological findings, the knowledge of reference values of joint structures is indispensable. The objective was to define B-mode ultrasound age- and sex-related reference values for the elbow joint in healthy children and adolescents during maturation.

Background: Geometric parameters have been proposed for prediction of cerebral aneurysm rupture risk. Predicting the rupture risk for incidentally detected unruptured aneurysms could help clinicians in their treatment decision. However, assessment of geometric parameters depends on several factors, including the spatial resolution of the imaging modality used and the chosen reconstruction procedure.

Cardiac [I]metaiodobenzylguanidine scintigraphy (123I-MIBG), reflecting postganglionic cardiac autonomic denervation, is proposed for early detection of Parkinson's disease (PD; reduced tracer uptake) and separation from Multiple System Atrophy (MSA; preserved tracer uptake). However, several recent studies report on frequent unexpected 123I-MIBG results in PD and MSA. We sought to determine, whether 123I-MIBG is feasible to discriminate PD from MSA in unselected geriatric patients in clinical practice.

Background & Aims: Acute hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections may clear spontaneously or become chronic and run through different phases. The single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs3077, rs9277535 and rs9277534 within the human leucocyte antigen (HLA)-DP gene have been found to be associated with HBV susceptibility and persistence in Asians. However, evidence for the influence of these variants in Caucasians has been limited so far.

Innate immunity can induce spontaneous hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) seroclearance (SC) of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection or transition towards an inactive carrier state. Toll-like receptor (TLR) 3 signalling has been linked to these processes. Alterations in the TLR3 gene might impair immune responses against HBV.

The Advanced Breast Cancer Fourth Consensus (ABC4) on diagnosis and treatment of advanced breast cancer (ABC) again took place in Lisbon, on November 2-4, 2017, and was chaired by Fatima Cardoso, MD, PhD. This year's contents focused very much on new developments in the treatment of ABC. For example, the significance of inhibition of cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6 (CDK4/6) in hormone receptor (HR)-positive ABC, of dual antibody blockade in human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive ABC, and of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibition in triple-negative ABC, as well as the potential therapeutic consequences, were discussed.

Aims/hypothesis: Wingless-type (Wnt) inducible signalling pathway protein-1 (WISP1) has been recently identified as a proinflammatory adipokine. We examined whether WISP1 expression and circulating levels are altered in type 2 diabetes and whether WISP1 affects insulin signalling in muscle cells and hepatocytes.
Methods: Serum and visceral adipose tissue (VAT) biopsies, for analysis of circulating WISP1 levels by ELISA and WISP1 mRNA expression by real-time quantitative RT-PCR, were collected from normal-weight men (control group, n = 33) and obese men with (n = 46) and without type 2 diabetes (n = 56) undergoing surgery.
