Predicting health trajectories and accurately measuring aging processes across the human lifespan remain profound scientific challenges. Assessing the effectiveness and impact of interventions targeting aging is even more elusive, largely due to the intricate, multidimensional nature of aging-a process that defies simple quantification. Traditional biomarkers offer only partial perspectives, capturing limited aspects of the aging landscape.

Background: Tumor-derived small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) play an essential role in reprogramming the tumor microenvironment. Metabolic reprogramming is an essential prerequisite for M2 polarization of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs). This M2 phenotype is closely related to the immune dysfunction of CD8 T cells and subsequent tumor progression.

The zygotic genome activation (ZGA) is crucial for the development of pre-implantation embryos. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play significant roles in many biological processes, but the study on their role in the early embryonic development of pigs is limited. In this study, we identify lncFKBPL as an enhancer-type lncRNA essential for pig embryo development.

Objective: This study aimed to systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy of Jingjin (muscle region of the meridian, sinew/tendon/fascia) acupuncture therapy in treating peripheral facial paralysis.
Methods: A computerized search of PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Clinical Studies, SCOPUS, Web of Science, PEDro, China Knowledge, Wanfang, and Wipu databases was performed for published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis using Jingjin acupuncture therapy from the beginning of the construction of the databases until 2 April 2024. After a two-person independent extraction of data, the studies were assessed for paper quality and then analyzed for meta-analysis using RevMan5.

Background: The rapid evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent global immunization efforts have rendered early metabolomics studies potentially outdated, as they primarily involved non-exposed, non-vaccinated populations. This paper presents a predictive model developed from up-to-date metabolomics data integrated with clinical data to estimate early mortality risk in critically ill COVID-19 patients. Our study addresses the critical gap in current research by utilizing current patient samples, providing fresh insights into the pathophysiology of the disease in a partially immunized global population.

Background: Inactivation or mutations of FAM20C causes human Raine Syndrome, which manifests as lethal osteosclerosis bone dysplasia or non-lethal hypophosphatemia rickets. However, it is only hypophosphatemia rickets that was reported in the mice with Fam20c deletion or mutations. To further investigate the local and global impacts of Fam20c mutation, we constructed a knock-in allele carrying Fam20c mutation (D446N) found in the non-lethal Raine Syndrome.

Background: In recent times, the applications of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) beyond kidney-related conditions have been progressively increasing, and its implementation in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) specifically for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has been documented. This meta-analysis compiles all existing RCTs to assess whether CRRT benefits ARDS.
Methods: We searched 12 databases in English and Chinese and two clinical trial centers up to November 28, 2023.

Phosphorus in soil mostly exists in complex compounds such as phytic acid, which reduces the effectiveness of phosphorus and limits agricultural production. Phytase has the activity of hydrolyzing phytate into phosphate. The mineralization of phytate in soil by phytase secreted by microorganisms is an effective way to improve the utilization rate of phytate.

Potyvirids are the largest group of plant RNA viruses. Pelota, a core component of RNA quality controls (RQC), promotes the degradation of potyvirids' genomic RNA by recognizing a specific GA motif. Here we demonstrate that the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, NIb, acts as a SUMOylation decoy to effectively reduce Pelota SUMOylation by competing with SCE1 to inhibit Pelota-mediated RQC.

The smart labels prepared via the casting method and molten 3D printing method have a long heating time at high temperature and a dense network structure, resulting in a decrease in the color response ability of the labels. Therefore, this study uses a nonphase change foam 3D printing method with a shorter heating time to improve the color sensitivity of smart labels. By the pH driving method, the blending and pregelation of sodium alginate (Alg) can extend the drainage time of the interfacial film to the maximum extent, thus further improving the foam stability of egg white protein (EWP) and endowing the interfacial adsorption layer with better flexibility and fluidity.

The human microbiota may influence the effectiveness of drug therapy by activating or inactivating the pharmacological properties of drugs. Computational methods have demonstrated their ability to screen reliable microbe-drug associations and uncover the mechanism by which drugs exert their functions. However, the previous prediction methods failed to completely exploit the neighborhood topologies of the microbe and drug entities and the diverse correlations between the microbe-drug entity pair and the other entities.

Organic cathode materials are widely considered as highly promising for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) due to their tunable properties, low cost, and ease of processing and synthesis. Benzothiadiazoles have demonstrated significant potential as organic electrode materials in AZIBs, owing to their strong electron-accepting capabilities and the presence of multiple reversible redox sites in anthraquinone. In this study, we designed a polymer, poly(2-methyl-6-(7-methyl-5,6-dinitrobenzo[][1,2,5]thiadiazol-4-yl)anthracene-9,10-dione) (PBDQ), with multielectron transfer capability through a copolymerization approach.

Heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1), an enzyme involved in heme catabolism, has been shown upregulated in microglia cells and plays a critical roles in neurological damages after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). However, the mechanisms by which HO-1 mediates the neuronal damages are still obscure. Here, our findings demonstrate that HO-1 over-expression exacerbates the pro-inflammatory response of microglia and induces neuronal ferroptosis through promoting intracellular iron deposition in the ICH model both in vitro and in vivo.
