Intramedullary schwannoma of conus medullaris with syringomyelia: a case report and literature review.

Intramedullary schwannomas in the conus medullaris are very rare and are usually not associated with syringomyelia. We report a unique case of intramedullary schwannoma in the conus medullaris with long-segment syringomyelia. The patient was a 60-year-old male, initially presenting with left dorsalgia, subsequently developing weakness in the right lower extremity.

Prognostic value of computed tomography-derived fractional flow reserve in patients with diabetes mellitus and unstable angina.

Background: Coronary artery calcification is commonly found in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), which may compromise the diagnostic accuracy of coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA). Computed tomography-derived fractional flow reserve (CT-FFR), which integrates coronary anatomy with functional assessment, holds the potential to become a powerful diagnostic tool for evaluating calcified lesions.

Objective: We aim to assess the prognostic value of CT-FFR for calcific lesions in patients with T2DM and unstable angina (UA).

Background: Several respiratory infections outbreaks have been observed in mainland China after reduction of non-pharmaceutical interventions. Other countries have seen increases in respiratory infections outside typical seasons post-COVID-19, warranting investigation into underlying causes.

Methods: We established monitoring networks for suspected respiratory infection in 14 tertiary hospitals nationwide.

Expression and clinical significance of NKG2A and HLA-E in advanced laryngeal carcinoma.

Objectives: The purpose was to detected features of the expression levels of NKG2A and its ligand HLA-E, a new member of the immune checkpoints, in advanced laryngeal carcinoma and their clinicopathologic significance.

Material And Methods: We analyzed the expression levels of HLA-E and NKG2A in multiple types of tumors utilizing the Tumor Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER) database and immunohistochemistry and qRT-PCR analysis of paraffin embedded tissue samples to reveal the correlations of the clinicopathological factors with the expression of these two proteins in advanced laryngeal carcinoma as well as their prognostic significance.

Results: KLRC1 (the coding gene of NKG2A) and HLA-E are substantially overexpressed in various human cancers than normal tissues.

Unilateral hemilaminectomy vs. laminoplasty for the resection of spinal schwannomas: an analysis of 100 patients.

Objective: Spinal schwannomas are the most common intradural extramedullary tumors, and their complete removal is recommended to avoid tumor recurrence. Although laminoplasty provides a sufficient window for tumor resection, this approach may increase tissue trauma and cause postoperative instability compared with unilateral hemilaminectomy. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and clinical outcomes of the two approaches.

Four centrosome-related genes to predict the prognosis and drug sensitivity of patients with colon cancer.

Background: As the primary microtubule organizing center in animal cells, centrosome abnormalities are involved in human colon cancer.

Aim: To explore the role of centrosome-related genes (CRGs) in colon cancer.

Background: Dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) are a kind of undifferentiated dental mesenchymal stem cells with strong self-renewal ability and multi-differentiation potential. This study aimed to investigate the regulatory functions of succinylation modification in DPSCs.

Methods: DPSCs were isolated from the dental pulp collected from healthy subjects, and then stem cell surface markers were identified using flow cytometry.

Mimicking Motor Proteins: Wall-Guided Self-Navigation of Microwheels.

Untethered micro/nanorobots (MNRs) show great promise in biomedicine. However, high-precision targeted navigation of MNRs into both deep and tiny microtube networks comes with big challenges because the present medical imaging cannot simultaneously meet the requirements of high resolution, high penetration depth, and high real-time performance. Inspired by intracellular motor proteins that transport cargo along cytoskeletal tracks, this study proposed a microtube inwall-guided targeted self-navigation strategy of magnetic microwheels (μ-wheels) that relies only on interactions with a microtube inwall, compared to conventional techniques that rely on real-time imaging and tracking of MNRs.

Elucidating the clonal relationship of esophageal second primary tumors in patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

Laryngeal cancer ranks as the second most prevalent upper airway malignancy, following Lung cancer. Although some progress has been made in managing laryngeal cancer, the 5-year survival rate is disappointing. The gradual increase in the incidence of second primary tumors (SPTs) plays a crucial role in determining survival outcomes during long-term follow-up, and the esophagus was the most common site with a worse prognosis.

Characteristics of metabolic inflammatory syndrome among inpatients with type 2 diabetes: A cross-sectional study in China.

Background: As meta-inflammation is a common feature for obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D), nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and atherosclerosis, we have proposed a new concept, metabolic inflammatory syndrome (MIS), to cluster such diseases. We aimed to characterize MIS and explore its association with coronary heart disease (CHD) among T2D inpatients in China.

Methods: A total number of 8344 T2D participants were enrolled.

Ten-year retrospect of the investigation of proximal limbs metastasis in cancer: a multi-center study on survival outcome, limb function status and surgical procedures analysis.

Background: The aim of study was to evaluate survival outcome and limb function in cancer patients with proximal limbs metastasis. Associated factors on survival outcome and limb function were identified. The comparative analysis between intramedullary nailing and prosthesis surgery in cancer patients with proximal limb metastasis was performed.

Histopathological Features Predicting Long-term Clinical Outcomes in Patients with Vanishing Bile Duct Syndrome.

Background And Aims: The clinicopathological features and long-term outcomes of patients with vanishing bile duct syndrome (VBDS) have yet to be elucidated. The study aims to investigate these features and identify factors associated with poor prognosis.

Methods: This multicenter retrospective study recruited patients with liver biopsy-proven VBDS who were followed up at five hospitals in northern China from January 2003 to April 2022.

Case report: A combined immunotherapy strategy as a promising therapy for MSI-H colorectal carcinomas with multiple HPD risk factors.

Approximately 5% of advanced colorectal carcinomas (CRCs) and 12-15% of early CRCs are microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) or mismatch repair-deficient (dMMR) tumors. Nowadays, PD-L1 inhibitors or combined CTLA4 inhibitors are the major strategies for advanced or metastatic MSI-H colorectal cancer, but some people still show drug resistance or progression. Combined immunotherapy has been shown to expand the benefit population in non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and other tumors while reducing the incidence of hyper-progression disease (HPD).

Liensinine ameliorates ischemia-reperfusion-induced brain injury by inhibiting autophagy via PI3K/AKT signaling.

The current study aimed to explore the role of autophagy in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injuries (CIRI) and elucidate the efficacy of liensinine treatment. An in vitro ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) neuronal cell model was established and pretreated with liensinine or rapamycin (RAPA). Cell proliferation and survival were detected using a cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, while cell damage and apoptosis were detected using the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) leakage rate and flow cytometry.

Metabolic differences in women with premature ovarian insufficiency: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: This review aimed to investigate the metabolic profile of women with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) compared relative to women with normal ovarian functioning.

Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, and the Web of Science for observational studies published up until the 6 of July 2021 that compared the metabolic profile of POI women with a healthy control group were assessed. Mean differences (MD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were pooled using the fixed or random effect models.

A baseline epidemiological study of the co-infection of enteric protozoans with human immunodeficiency virus among men who have sex with men from Northeast China.

Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and enteric parasite co-infection not only aggravates the clinical symptoms of parasites but also accelerates acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) progression. However, co-infection research on men who have sex with men (MSM), the predominant high-risk population of HIV/AIDS in China, is still limited. In this study, we investigated the epidemiology of enteric parasites, risk factors, and associations with clinical significance in an MSM HIV/AIDS population in Heilongjiang Province, northeast China.

Association between preconception serum lipid concentrations and treatment outcomes in women with PCOS who underwent ovulation induction.

Research Question: What is the association between preconception serum lipid concentrations and reproductive outcomes after ovulation induction in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)?

Design: A secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial with 1000 PCOS women undergoing ovulation induction with clomiphene with or without acupuncture. Preconception serum total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), triglycerides, apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1), apolipoprotein B (ApoB) were measured. Outcomes were ovulation, conception, pregnancy, live birth and miscarriage.

LPS-TLR4/MD-2-TNF-α signaling mediates alcohol-induced liver fibrosis in rats.

Liver fibrosis results from liver inflammation and progresses to liver cirrhosis or liver cancer. It is known that nonalcoholic liver disease is mediated by the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/myeloid differentiation factor-2 (MD-2)-tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) signaling pathway. This study aimed to investigate whether alcoholic liver disease is also mediated by this pathway.

Objective: At present, renal injury caused by sepsis seriously endangers the health of patients. Our paper proposed to study the protective effects of meloxicam (Mel) in sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (SAKI) and the underlying mechanisms.

Methods: The in vitro and in vivo models of SAKI were established using lipopolysaccharide (LPS).

Effect of Hyperinsulinemia and Insulin Resistance on Endocrine, Metabolic, and Reproductive Outcomes in Non-PCOS Women Undergoing Assisted Reproduction: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

To evaluate the effect of hyperinsulinemia (HI) and insulin resistance (IR) on endocrine, metabolic, and reproductive outcomes in women without polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) undergoing assisted reproduction. The study included 1,104 non-PCOS women undergoing fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection-fresh embryo transfer. HI was evaluated by serum fasting insulin (FIN), and IR was evaluated by homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR).

The Apolipoprotein B/A1 Ratio is Associated With Metabolic Syndrome Components, Insulin Resistance, Androgen Hormones, and Liver Enzymes in Women With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

Aim: To evaluate the association between the apolipoprotein B/A1 ratio (ApoB/ApoA1) and metabolic and endocrine parameters in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Methods: This study was a secondary analysis of the Acupuncture and Clomiphene for Chinese Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome trial (PCOSAct), and 957 subjects with available ApoB and ApoA1 measurements were included. Tests for linear trends and linear regression were used to assess the relation between the ApoB/ApoA1 ratio and metabolic and endocrine parameters.

Surgical Resection of Dorsal Spinal Meningiomas with the Inner Dura Layer-An Improved Preservation Technique of Spinal Dura in 40 Cases.

Background: Spinal meningiomas are the common benign tumors in intradural extramedullary spinal tumors. Simpson grade I resection is recommended to avoid tumor recurrence. However, the dura reconstruction increases a risk of cerebrospinal fluid leakage after this surgical resection.
