In order to explore the therapeutic effect of Resveratrol (Res)-activated Natural Killer (NK) cells on canine mammary tumors, this study employed a range of assays, including wound healing, colony formation, Transwell, flow cytometry, and Western blot experiments, to investigate the impact of Res-pretreated NK cells on canine mammary tumor cells in vitro. Additionally, a tumor-bearing mouse model was utilized to further analyze the therapeutic effects of Res-pretreated NK cells in vivo. The results showed that Res enhances the capacity of NK cells to induce apoptosis, pyroptosis, and ferroptosis in canine breast tumor cells, while also augmenting their influence on the migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition of these cells.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the prevalence of important diarrheal protozoan pathogens in cattle fecal samples collected from Heilongjiang Province, highlighting their global health risks to humans and animals.
  • The research sampled 1,155 cattle, revealing infection rates of 5.5% for one protozoan species, 3.8% for another, and 6.5% for a third, with several genetic variants identified among them.
  • Findings indicate that some protozoan species are zoonotic, meaning they can be transmitted from animals to humans, which raises public health concerns in the affected areas.

To thoroughly understand the profile of phenolic phytochemicals in kidney bean seeds cultivated in a cold region, the extractions, contents, antioxidant activities, compositions of free and bound phenols in the seed coat and cotyledon, and also relevant color attributes, were investigated. The results indicated that ultrasound-assisted extraction was an efficient method for free phenols. The bound phenols in seed coat and cotyledon were released more efficiently by alkali-acid and acid-alkali sequential hydrolysis, respectively.

Electronic address:

Bovine leukemia virus (BLV) is a widespread virus that decreases milk production and quality in dairy cows. As crucial components of BLV, BLV-encoded microRNAs (BLV-miRNAs) affect BLV replication and may impact the synthesis of Lactoferrin (LTF), Lactoperoxidase (LPO), Alpha-lactalbumin (alpha-LA), and Beta-lactoglobulin (beta-LG). In this study, we investigated the targeting relationship between BLV-miRNAs and LTF, LPO, alpha-LA, and beta-LG in cow's milk.

In dairy cows, the occurrence of subclinical ketosis (SCK) is particularly high during early lactation. Previously, we documented alterations in the abundance of adiponectin (ADPN) in anestrus cows with SCK in comparison to cows in estrus. In the present study, 60 cows were divided into two groups: control (C, n = 30) and SCK (n = 30).

Application of rhizobium inoculation in regulating heavy metals in legumes: A meta-analysis.

Sci Total Environ

October 2024

State Key Laboratory of Desert and Oasis Ecology, Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Urumqi 830011, China. Electronic address:

Rhizobium inoculation has been widely applied to alleviate heavy metal (HM) stress in legumes grown in contaminated soils, but it has generated inconsistent results with regard to HM accumulation in plant tissues. Here, we conducted a meta-analysis to assess the performance of Rhizobium inoculation for regulating HM in legumes and reveal the general influencing factors and processes. The meta-analysis showed that Rhizobium inoculation in legumes primarily increased the total HM uptake by stimulating plant biomass growth rather than HM phytoavailability.

GFP, a sulfated polysaccharide extracted from Grateloupia filicina, exhibits remarkable immunomodulatory activity. To reduce the side effects of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), GFP was employed as a macromolecular carrier to synthesize of GFP-C-5-FU by reacting with carboxymethyl-5-fluorouracil (C-5-FU). Subsequently, this new compound was reacted with folic acid (FA) through an ester bond, forming novel conjugates named GFP-C-5-FU-FA.

Orchitis is a frequent inflammatory reproductive disease that causes male infertility and a decline in sperm quality. Gut microbiota can regulate systemic and local inflammation, spermatogenesis and blood-testosterone barrier (BTB). In this study, we investigated correlation between gut microbiota and orchitis by establishing a mouse gut microbiota imbalance model induced by antibiotics (ABX) treatment and orchitis model induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) infection.

Electronic address:

Hepatocellular lipid accumulation characterizes fatty liver in dairy cows. Lipid droplets (LD), specialized organelles that store lipids and maintain cellular lipid homeostasis, are responsible for the ectopic storage of lipids associated with several metabolic disorders. In recent years, nonruminant studies have reported that LD-mitochondria interactions play an important role in lipid metabolism.

Objective: Orchitis is a common reproductive disease of male animals, which has serious implications to human and animal reproduction. Additionally, phlorizin (PHN), a common polyphenol in apples and strawberries, has a variety of biological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, and anti-aging activities. We aimed to determine the protective effects and potential mechanisms of PHN in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute orchitis in mice.

Introduction: Dehorning calves is necessary to minimize injury because intensive raising circumstances make horned cows more aggressive. However, acute pain is commonly perceived by farm animals when undergoing painful practices such as dehorning, affecting their health status and quality of life. By quantifying the magnitude of pain and discomfort associated with dehorning, we aim to contribute to a more humane and sustainable cattle farming industry.

  • Cervical cancer affects many women and is often treated with a medicine called bleomycin, which helps kill cancer cells.
  • Two proteins called PRDX1 and PRDX2 help protect cells from damage caused by bleomycin by cleaning up harmful substances called reactive oxygen species (ROS).
  • If the amounts of PRDX1 and PRDX2 are decreased, the cells can get hurt more easily, which means that these proteins are important for making cervical cancer treatments work better.
