Objective: To explore the bidirectional relationship of late-onset epilepsy (LOE) with dementia and Alzheimer's disease (AD).
Methods: Using the common electronic databases, including PubMed, Cochrane Library databases and EMBASE, we systematically reviewed published cohort studies that assessed the risk of LOE in individuals comorbid with dementia or AD, and those with dementia or AD comorbid with LOE that had been published up to 31 March 2023. The data extraction process was carried out independently by two authors.

Flexible electronics is a cutting-edge field that has paved the way for artificial tactile systems that mimic biological functions of sensing mechanical stimuli. These systems have an immense potential to enhance human-machine interactions (HMIs). However, tactile sensing still faces formidable challenges in delivering precise and nuanced feedback, such as achieving a high sensitivity to emulate human touch, coping with environmental variability, and devising algorithms that can effectively interpret tactile data for meaningful interactions in diverse contexts.

Reduced enzyme activity in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and poor targeting limit the application of enzyme-activating prodrugs, which is also detrimental to the effective treatment of HCC. Here, we investigated whether accelerated blood clearance (ABC) phenomenon occurs in HCC models following repeated injections of PEGylated liposomes (PEG-L), thus inducing prodrug accumulation and activation in the liver and exerting highly effective and low-toxicity therapeutic effects on HCC. First, PEGylated liposomal cyclophosphamide was prepared by solvent injection and characterized.

Objective: Previous studies have found the potential role of gout or hyperuricemia in subsequent development of Alzheimer's disease (AD) but reported inconsistent results. We conducted the current meta-analysis to evaluate whether an association exists between gout/ hyperuricemia and AD.
Methods: We systematically searched PubMed and EMBASE for the published cohort studies that measured the risk of AD in subject with gout/ hyperuricemia up to May 20, 2023.

Cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), one of the most important members of the cytochrome P450 subfamily, is a crucial catalyst in the metabolism of numerous drugs. As it catalyzes numerous processes for drug activation or inactivation, the pharmacological activities and clinical outcomes of anticancer drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 are highly dependent on the enzyme's activity and expression. Due to the complexity of tumor microenvironments and various influencing factors observed in human in vitro models and clinical studies, the pharmacokinetics of most anticancer drugs are influenced by the extent of induction or inhibition of CYP3A4-mediated metabolism, and these details are not fully recognized and highlighted.

Methods: The differential expressed genes (DEGs) were screened from the gene expression profile GSE30994 related to PRAD and then analyzed by protein-protein interaction (PPI) to screen the hub gene. Subsequently, the relation between hub gene and pan cancers, PRAD prognosis, and immunotherapy was analyzed. Besides, the effects of hub gene on the growth and metastasis of PRAD cell lines and inflammatory factors (IFs) were detected by functional experiments.

Background: Underactive bladder (UAB) is a common clinical problem but related research is rarely explored. As there are currently no effective therapies, the administration of adipose stromal vascular fraction (ad-SVF) provides a new potential method to treat underactive bladder.
Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were induced by partial bladder outlet obstruction (PBOO) for four weeks and randomly divided into three groups: rats treated with PBS (Sham group); rats administrated with ad-SVF (ad-SVF group) and rats performed with ad-SVF spheroids (ad-SVFsp group).

Direct-on-target microdroplet growth assay is a new technique for analysing bacterial sensitivity and mechanisms of resistance. It is based on matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry and allows for easy and rapid testing. Here, we describe the development and procedure of the direct-on-target microdroplet growth assay and summarise the latest clinical applications.

Castleman's disease is a rare disease which is difficult to diagnose early due to its lack of specific manifestations, and also is easily confused with lymphoma or other solid tumors. Castleman's disease can occur in any part of the body containing lymph nodes and is most common in the chest, followed by the neck, abdomen, and axillae. A 37-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of a tumor near the adrenal gland found by computed tomography.

The formation of an effective vascular network can promote peripheral angiogenesis, ensuring an effective supply of blood, oxygen, and nutrients to an engineered bladder, which is important for bladder tissue engineering. Stromal vascular fraction cells (SVFs) promote vascularization and improve the function of injured tissues. In this study, adipose tissue-derived SVFs were introduced as an angiogenic cell source and seeded into the bladder acellular matrix (BAM) to generate a SVF-BAM complex for bladder reconstruction.

Background: Recent several studies have showed that the nanog overexpression leads to poor prognosis in some kinds of cancer including hepatocellular carcinoma and gastrointestinal luminal cancer. However, the correlations between prognosis and clinic-pathological features and nanog overexpression in lung cancer are still not well-known. Thus, we performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the role of nanog in lung cancer.

This study aims to verify whether the inhibitory effect of Sirtuin 3 (SIRT3) on the formation of renal calcium oxalate crystals was mediated through promoting macrophages (Mϕs) polarization. Identification and quantification of M1 and M2 monocytes were performed using fluorescence-activated cell sorting analysis. SIRT3 protein level and forkhead box O1 (FOXO1) acetylation level were measured using western blot analysis.

Pituitary tumor-transforming gene-1 (PTTG1) is a recently identified oncogene involved in the progression of malignant tumors; however, the expression level of PTTG1 in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and its potential value as a novel prognostic marker for ccRCC remains unclear. In this study, PTTG1 mRNA and protein levels were assessed in 44 paired ccRCC tissues and adjacent normal tissues by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and immunohistochemistry, respectively. Further immunohistochemical analysis was implemented in 192 samples of ccRCC to evaluate the associations between PTTG1 levels and the clinical characteristics in ccRCC.
