Methods: We marked ripples in sleep EEGs of children. We compared the start of ripples to vertex wave- or IED-start, and duration, frequency, and root mean square (RMS) amplitude of physiological and pathological ripples using multilevel modeling.

Methods: We contacted the European national ANS and neurological societies, as well as members of our professional network, to identify clinical ANS laboratories in each country and invite them to answer a web-based survey.

Objective: Prolonged postictal generalized electroencephalographic suppression (PGES) is a potential biomarker for sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP), which may be associated with dysfunctional autonomic responses and serotonin signaling. To better understand molecular mechanisms, PGES duration was correlated to 5HT1A and 5HT2A receptor protein expression and RNAseq from resected hippocampus and temporal cortex of temporal lobe epilepsy patients with seizures recorded in preoperative evaluation.
Methods: Analyses included 36 cases (age = 14-64 years, age at epilepsy onset = 0-51 years, epilepsy duration = 2-53 years, PGES duration = 0-93 s), with 13 cases in all hippocampal analyses.

Objective: Presurgical long-term video-EEG monitoring (LT-VEEG) is an important part of the presurgical evaluation in patients with focal epilepsy. Smartphones offer unique opportunities to trace the convoluted behavioral patterns accompanying healthy aging. Here we captured smartphone touchscreen interactions from a healthy population (N = 684, ∼309 million interactions) spanning 16 to 86 years of age and trained a decision tree regression model to estimate chronological age based on the interactions. The interactions were clustered according to their next interval dynamics to quantify diverse smartphone behaviors.

Purpose: We performed an economic evaluation, from a societal perspective, to examine the cost-utility and cost-effectiveness of a wearable multimodal seizure detection device: NightWatch.
Methods: We collected data between November 2018 and June 2020 from the PROMISE trial (NCT03909984), including children aged 4-16 years with refractory epilepsy living at home. Caregivers completed questionnaires on stress, quality of life, health care consumption and productivity costs after two-month baseline and two-month intervention with NightWatch.

Objective: Resective surgery for selected individuals with frontal lobe epilepsy can be effective, although multimodal outcomes are less established than in temporal lobe epilepsy. We describe long-term seizure remission and relapse patterns, psychiatric comorbidity, and socioeconomic outcomes following frontal lobe epilepsy surgery.
Methods: We reviewed individual data on frontal lobe epilepsy procedures at our center between 1990 and 2020.

We visually marked spikes, ripples (80-250 Hz), and fast ripples (FRs; 250-500 Hz) on neocortical and mesiotemporal channels before and after resections.

Tuberous sclerosis complex is a rare genetic disease associated with mutations in the TSC1 or TSC2 genes, which cause overactivation of the mTOR complex. In the past 5 years, understanding has increased of the cellular consequences of TSC1 and TSC2 genetic variants and the mTORC1 overactivation in neurons and glial cells and their contribution to network dysfunction. Infants and young children (aged 1-5 years) with tuberous sclerosis complex might now benefit from early assessment of gene variant status and mosaicism.

The International League Against Epilepsy/American Epilepsy Society (ILAE/AES) Joint Translational Task Force initiated the TASK3 working group to create common data elements (CDEs) for various aspects of preclinical epilepsy research studies, which could help improve the standardization of experimental designs. This article addresses neuropathological changes associated with seizures and epilepsy in rodent models of epilepsy. We discuss CDEs for histopathological parameters for neurodegeneration, changes in astrocyte morphology and function, mechanisms of inflammation, and changes in the blood-brain barrier and myelin/oligodendrocytes resulting from recurrent seizures in rats and mice.

Therapies for epilepsy mainly provide symptomatic control of seizures since most of the available drugs do not target disease mechanisms. Moreover, about one-third of patients fail to achieve seizure control. In the new WHO 2021 Classification of CNS Tumors the chapter "Circumscribed astrocytic gliomas, glioneuronal and neuronal tumors" encompasses several different rare tumor entities, which occur more frequently in children, adolescents, and young adults. The Task Force has reviewed the evidence of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, which is low particularly for adult patients, and draw recommendations accordingly. Tumor diagnosis, based on WHO 2021, is primarily performed using conventional histological techniques; however, a molecular workup is important for differential diagnosis, in particular, DNA methylation profiling for the definitive classification of histologically unresolved cases.

Background: While patients with diffuse low-grade glioma (LGG) often survive for years, there is a risk of tumor progression which may impact patients' long-term health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and neurocognitive functioning (NCF). We present a follow-up of LGG patients and their informal caregivers (T3) who took part in our previous HRQOL investigations (T1, M = 7 and T2 M = 13 years after diagnosis).
Methods: Participants completed HRQOL (short form-36 health survey [SF-36]; EORTC-BN20), fatigue (Checklist Individual Strength [CIS]), and depression (Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression [CES-D]) questionnaires and underwent NCF assessments.
