In recent years, rising living standards and an accelerated lifestyle have led to an increase in the incidence of chronic liver disease. Modern medicine has yet to fully develop effective methods for preventing and treating these conditions due to their complex pathogenesis. Autophagy, a cellular process that maintains homeostasis by removing abnormal proteins, has emerged as a promising therapeutic target for chronic liver diseases.

Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), a bioactive metabolite of gut microbes, plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of kidney diseases by activating programmed cell death (PCD) pathways. However, whether trimethylamine (TMA) contributes to chronic kidney injury and which kind of PCD is involved in TMA-induced chronic kidney injury has not been previously evaluated. To observe the effect of TMA, male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into two groups: the Control group and the TMA group.

Objective: To explore the relationship between adipose tissue deposition and triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, an indicator clinically used to assess insulin resistance (IR), in middle-aged and elderly women using quantitative computed tomography (QCT) and MRI mDIXON-Quant sequence.
Methods: All participants underwent quantitative computed tomography (QCT) and MRI mDIXON-Quant examination and calculated the TyG index based on the fasting blood glucose and triacylglycerol. Bounded by the median TyG index, all participants were divided into low TyG group and high TyG group.

The pimarane diterpenoids, a widespread class of secondary metabolites, have been found in several dozens of plant species from various families and in organisms from other taxonomic groups. According to the different chiral centres, pimarane diterpenes can be divided into four types, including pimarane, isopimarane, -pimarane, and -isopimarane. Meanwhile, these compounds possessed many pharmacological activities, such as cytotoxic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial activities.

Currently, the relationship between axial rotation of the vertebrae and bone mineral density (BMD) measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and quantitative computed tomography (QCT) remains controversial. The aim of this study is to quantitatively assess the effect of vertebral rotation on volumetric bone mineral density (v-BMD) and areal bone mineral density (a-BMD), further to propose the corrected strategies. To achieve this, a phantom, which was rotated from 0° to 25° in 5° increments, was utilized.

Background: Macrovascular lesions are the main cause of death and disability in diabetes mellitus, and excessive accumulation of cholesterol and lipids can lead to long-term and repeated damage of vascular endothelial cells. Umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UCMSCs) can attenuate vascular endothelial damage in type 1 diabetic mice, while Fufang Xueshuantong capsule (FXC) has a protective effect on endothelial function; however, whether FXC in combination with UCMSCs can improve T2DM macrovascular lesions as well as its mechanism of action are not clear. Therefore, the aim of this study was to reveal the role of FXC + UCMSCs in T2DM vasculopathy and their potential mechanism in the treatment of T2DM.

Background: Rectal mucinous adenocarcinoma (MAC) is a rare pathological type of rectal cancer with unique pathological features and a poor prognosis. It is difficult to diagnose and treat early because of the lack of specific manifestations in some aspects of the disease. The common metastatic organs of rectal cancer are the liver and lung; however, rectal carcinoma with metastasis to subcutaneous soft tissue is a rare finding.

Although lncRNAs are recognized to contribute to the development of oral squamous-cell carcinoma (OSCC), their exact function in invasion and cell migration is not clear. In this research, we explored the molecular and cellular mechanisms of FOXD2-AS1 in OSCC. Prognostic and bioinformatics analyses were used to test for the differential expression of FOXD2-AS1-PLOD1.

Background: Medical education accreditation in China has been conducted by the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education (WCAME) and 129 medical schools have completed accreditation by December 2021. Despite studies on the standards, process and effectiveness of accreditation, the actual information transparency of accredited medical schools in China has not been examined. The study investigated the status of publicly available information from WCAME-accredited medical schools in China, and whether public availability of information had significant differences among different types of universities.

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that Luteolin has a positive effect on epithelial barrier integrity by promoting the function of tight protein, however, little is known about the underline mechanism of Luteolin. In this study, we constructed Caco-2 cell monolayer to explore the effects and the regulation mechanism of Luteolin in intestinal epithelial barrier integrity.
Methods: Caco-2 cells were co-treated with TNF-α, Interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and Luteolin for 24 h.

This study aimed to investigate whether inhibition of endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) mediated the ameliorative effect of apelin on acute heart failure (AHF). Rabbit model of AHF was induced by sodium pentobarbital. Cardiac dysfunction and injury were detected in the rabbit models of AHF, including impaired hemodynamic parameters and increased levels of CK-MB and cTnI.
