Trimethylamine Induced Chronic Kidney Injury by Activating the ZBP1-NLRP3 Inflammasome Pathway.

Physiol Res

November 2024

Department of Physiology, Hebei Medical University, Shijiazhuang, China. Hebei Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine, Hebei University of Chinese Medicine, Shijiazhuang, China.

Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), a bioactive metabolite of gut microbes, plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of kidney diseases by activating programmed cell death (PCD) pathways. However, whether trimethylamine (TMA) contributes to chronic kidney injury and which kind of PCD is involved in TMA-induced chronic kidney injury has not been previously evaluated. To observe the effect of TMA, male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into two groups: the Control group and the TMA group.

Nat Prod Res

November 2024

Shandong Key Laboratory of Biophysics, Institute of Biophysics, Dezhou University, Dezhou, P.R. China.

The pimarane diterpenoids, a widespread class of secondary metabolites, have been found in several dozens of plant species from various families and in organisms from other taxonomic groups. According to the different chiral centres, pimarane diterpenes can be divided into four types, including pimarane, isopimarane, -pimarane, and -isopimarane. Meanwhile, these compounds possessed many pharmacological activities, such as cytotoxic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial activities.

Article Synopsis
  • Lung cancer has a poor prognosis, but recent studies suggest that inducing ferroptosis, a form of cell death, could be a promising treatment approach.
  • This study specifically investigates oleic acid (OA), the main component of Brucea javanica oil (BJO), and its effects on lung cancer cell lines A549 and H1299.
  • Findings indicate that OA inhibits cancer cell growth and migration, suppresses SDC4 expression, and promotes ferroptosis by altering the levels of several key proteins involved in this process, highlighting its potential for lung cancer therapy.

Preliminary study on the effect of lumbar axial rotation on bone mineral density measured by DXA and QCT.

Sci Rep

September 2024

Department of Radiology, Hebei Medical University Third Hospital, No. 139 Ziqiang Road, Qiaoxi District, Shijiazhuang, 050051, Hebei, China.

Currently, the relationship between axial rotation of the vertebrae and bone mineral density (BMD) measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and quantitative computed tomography (QCT) remains controversial. The aim of this study is to quantitatively assess the effect of vertebral rotation on volumetric bone mineral density (v-BMD) and areal bone mineral density (a-BMD), further to propose the corrected strategies. To achieve this, a phantom, which was rotated from 0° to 25° in 5° increments, was utilized.

  • Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is a serious stomach condition linked to cancer, characterized by inflammation and tissue damage caused by processes like ferroptosis.
  • Luteolin, a natural anti-inflammatory compound, was explored for its potential to reduce inflammation and regulate ferroptosis in CAG by targeting the AGE-RAGE pathway.
  • In laboratory tests on CAG-induced rats, luteolin showed therapeutic effects by inhibiting the AGE-RAGE signaling, decreasing inflammatory markers, and modulating ferroptosis-related proteins, leading to improved gastric tissue health.

Background: Macrovascular lesions are the main cause of death and disability in diabetes mellitus, and excessive accumulation of cholesterol and lipids can lead to long-term and repeated damage of vascular endothelial cells. Umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UCMSCs) can attenuate vascular endothelial damage in type 1 diabetic mice, while Fufang Xueshuantong capsule (FXC) has a protective effect on endothelial function; however, whether FXC in combination with UCMSCs can improve T2DM macrovascular lesions as well as its mechanism of action are not clear. Therefore, the aim of this study was to reveal the role of FXC + UCMSCs in T2DM vasculopathy and their potential mechanism in the treatment of T2DM.

Background: Rectal mucinous adenocarcinoma (MAC) is a rare pathological type of rectal cancer with unique pathological features and a poor prognosis. It is difficult to diagnose and treat early because of the lack of specific manifestations in some aspects of the disease. The common metastatic organs of rectal cancer are the liver and lung; however, rectal carcinoma with metastasis to subcutaneous soft tissue is a rare finding.

  • - Myocardial infarction is a serious health issue caused by a blockage in the coronary arteries, leading to reduced blood flow and damage to the heart muscle.
  • - Current treatments aim to lower the heart's oxygen needs and relieve symptoms, but achieving effective results has been challenging.
  • - Research shows that using mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to treat myocardial infarction is both safe and effective, but there are ongoing debates about the best practices for their use, which need to be resolved for MSCs to become a standard treatment option.
