Background: We aimed to compare the effects of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) and implantable venous access devices (TIVADs) in terms of complications and shoulder function in patients with malignant bone and soft tissue tumors of the lower extremities.
Methods: We analyzed 65 cases of TIVADs (chest wall) and 65 cases of PICC at the orthopedic department of the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University between June 2019 and December 2021, which were diagnosed with malignant bone tumors or soft tissue tumors of the lower extremities (tumors had to be relatively sensitive to chemotherapy), received regular chemotherapy, with ≥ 14 cycles (42 weeks). The two groups were compared in terms of catheter indwelling time, catheter-related complications, Constant-Murley shoulder function score, and displacement of the position of the catheter end on the catheterization side.

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) constitute an important component in regulating immune responses in cancer. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are untranslated functional RNA molecules. There is growing evidence that lncRNAs are involved in modulating transcriptional factors to become complex regulatory networks that regulate the immune function and activity of MDSCs in the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment.

N-methyladenosine (mA) modification, the most prevalent RNA modification, is involved in all aspects of RNA metabolism, including RNA processing, nuclear export, stability, translation and degradation. Therefore, mA modification can participate in various physiological functions, such as tissue development, heat shock response, DNA damage response, circadian clock control and even in carcinogenesis through regulating the expression or structure of the gene. The deposition, removal and recognition of mA are carried out by methyltransferases, demethylases and mA RNA binding proteins, respectively.

A large number of studies on the metabolism of immune cells in anti-tumor response have been carried out in recent years. It is proved that metabolic reprogramming can determine the differentiation and functions of immune cells. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are a heterogeneous population of immunosuppressive cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME).

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are immature suppressive cells partly influencing the efficacy of cancer immunotherapies. The crosstalk between MDSCs and immune cells mediates a potently immunosuppressive network within the tumor microenvironment to attenuate the anti-tumor response. Targeting MDSCs could be a potential therapeutic approach to overcome the limitation of immunotherapies.

DNA repair system plays a crucial role in maintaining genomic integrity and stability and in protecting against cancer. Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) functions as a key enzyme in the base excision repair (BER) pathway. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) that could affect the function or expression of PARP1 gene might be associated with the risk of cancer.

The most important anti-tumour immune response is mediated by T lymphocytes. Cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated protein 4 (CTLA4) plays a critical role in the immune surveillance against tumours as an inhibitory immune checkpoint molecule of T-cell activation. This study was designed to explore the association of CTLA4 polymorphisms with the susceptibility to oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and prognosis of patients with ESCC in a high-incidence population from northern China.

It has been reported that endocannabinoid receptor type 2 (CB2) agonist JWH133 inhibits the growth of C6 glioma cells, but the underlying mechanism has not yet been fully elucidated. We showed that JWH133 inhibited C6 cells growth, reduced cAMP production and inhibited PKA activity through CB2 receptor. Decrease of PKA activity stimulated CaMKKβ, and subsequently elevated phosphorylation of AMPKα at threonine 172 site.

The microbial community is present abundantly in mucosal organs including the intestine, the oral cavity, and the vagina, and is referred to as the microbiota. The microbiota is composed of commensal bacteria and other microorganisms. Intestinal colonization by commensal microorganisms is essential for host physiological functions from the maintenance of barrier homeostasis locally to the regulation of metabolism, hematopoiesis, inflammation, immune development, and other functions systemically.
