Article Synopsis
  • An online method combining solid phase extraction with ultra performance liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry was developed to detect sacubitril and seven sartan drugs in blood serum.
  • The analysis was performed using a specific C column, with mass spectrometry done through a jet stream electrospray ion source, allowing precise quantification with a fast run time of 12.5 minutes.
  • The method showed excellent linearity and recovery rates, successfully detecting five target compounds in actual serum samples, making it effective for clinical monitoring of drug concentrations.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how extending flushing intervals (FIs) for Totally Implantable Venous Access Devices (TIVADs) impacts catheter-related complications during the off-treatment period.
  • A review of articles from various medical databases identified 11 studies with nearly 5,000 participants, showing that increasing FIs to two or three months could raise the risk of catheter occlusion, but overall complication rates remained unaffected.
  • The researchers concluded that while extending the flushing interval to three months seems feasible without increasing complications, caution is needed in interpreting the results due to limitations in the available data.

Cytarabine (Ara-C) is a commonly used chemotherapeutic drug for the treatment of leukemia, known for its significant tolerability. The down regulation of miR-203 in leukemia cells suggests its potential involvement in the pathogenesis of leukemia. In this study, we investigated the effects and possible mechanisms of miR-203 and Ara-C on proliferation and apoptosis of human leukemia K562 cells which were cultured with Ara-C and/or with transfection of miR-203 expression vectors.

Background: According to the indexes of serum and anal function, acupuncture therapy was applied to patients with low rectal cancer in order to avoid the occurrence of anal incontinence and reduce complications.

Aim: To explore the clinical application and evaluate the effect of acupuncture therapy for anal function rehabilitation after low-tension rectal cancer surgery.

Methods: From the anorectal surgery cases, we selected 120 patients who underwent colorectal cancer surgery between January 2020 and December 2022 and randomly divided them into a control group ( = 60), observation group ( = 60), and control group after surgery for lifestyle intervention (including smoking cessation and exercise), dietary factor adjustment, anal movement, and oral loperamide treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of cryoablation combined with basic treatment in advanced NSCLC patients who didn't respond to initial chemotherapy.
  • A total of 87 patients were split into two groups: one received cryoablation plus basic treatment, and the other received only basic treatment.
  • Results showed no significant difference in overall survival between the two groups, but the cryoablation group reported better disease control and improved quality of life, suggesting it may help relieve symptoms for some patients.

Totally implantable venous access devices (TIVADs) have been widely used for many years in the management of patients suffering from cancer. Thrombotic occlusion is the most common functional complication in the off-treatment period. This study aims to investigate the incidence of and risk factors for TIVADs-related thrombotic occlusion in patients with breast cancer.

This study measured the pollution characteristics and ecological and health risks of 19 herbicides found in drinking water sources and their inflowing rivers. The targeted herbicides were prevalent in the study area, but most concentrations were well below 10 ng L. Acetochlor and atrazine were the dominant herbicides, although their levels were much lower than previously reported.

A cross-sectional study was performed at Hebei Medical University Fourth Affiliated Hospital from April to July 2020 to explore the difference and consistency between nurses and physicians in terms of symptomatic adverse event (AE) assessment. The Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) was utilized by nurses and physicians to assess patients' symptomatic AEs. Patients self-reported their AEs utilizing the Patient-Reported Outcomes Version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (PRO-CTCAE).

Chemical Characteristics and Comparison of Schizonepetae Herba and Schizonepetae Herba Carbonisata by Combination of GC-MS and UHPLC-MS Strategies.

J AOAC Int

July 2023

Hebei University of Chinese Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine Processing Technology Innovation Center of Hebei Province, College of Pharmacy, Shijiazhuang 050200, China.

Background: Schizonepetae Herba (SH, Jingjie) and Schizonepetae Herba Carbonisata (SHC, Jingjie Tan) are two different forms of the same herbal material, with SHC being the processed product of SH. The different clinical efficacies of SH and SHC may be caused by changes in their chemical compositions. Despite this, there have been few studies that have reported on the comparative identification of SH and SHC.

Background: The association of rs28362491 polymorphism in NF-κB1 gene and coronary artery disease (CAD) risk was reported in several studies with inconsistent outcomes. This study aimed to comprehensively collect and synthesize the existing evidence to appraise whether rs28362491 was correlated to CAD susceptibility.

Methods: Databases of Web of Science, EMBASE, PubMed, Wanfang, and CNKI were retrieved from inception to August 1, 2019 without any restriction on language.

Analysis of the properties of the tongue has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for disease diagnosis. Notably, tongue analysis, which is non-invasive and convenient compared with gastroscopy and pathological examination, can be used to assess chronic gastritis (CG). In order to find potential diagnostic biomarkers and study the metabolic mechanisms of the endogenous small molecules in the tongue coating related to CG, a non-targeted metabolomic analysis method was developed using ultra high performance liquid chromatography combined with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q/TOF-MS).
