The largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) is one of the important freshwater aquaculture species in the world. However, due to limitations on introduction scale, high-density farming, inbreeding, and species hybridization, the germplasm resources of largemouth bass face threats such as degradation and susceptibility to diseases. Therefore, it is urgent to conduct research on the conservation of its original and good germplasm resources.

At present, a clear dependency of the dynamics upon temperature and pH has not been established for many heavy metals (HMs), so making it difficult to project and quantify the impact of ocean warming and acidification on metal biogeochemistry in future scenarios. To understand the responses of HMs to future ocean warming and acidification, we estimated the spatial-temporal variations and pollution status of six dissolved HMs (i.e.

Marine bacterioplankton play a crucial role in the cycling of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus in coastal waters. And the impact of environmental factors on bacterial community structure and ecological functions is a dynamic ongoing process. To systematically assess the relationship between environmental changes and bacterioplankton communities, this study delved into the spatiotemporal distribution and predicted metabolic characteristics of bacterioplankton communities at two estuarine beaches in Northern China.

Freshwater systems near highly urbanized areas are extremely susceptible to emerging contaminants (ECs), yet their stereoscopic persistence in aquatic ecosystems and related risks remain largely unknown. Herein, we characterized the multi-mediums distribution of 63 ECs in Baiyangdian Lake, the biggest urban lake in the North of China. We identified variations in the seasonal patterns of aquatic EC levels, which decreased in water and increased in sediment from wet to dry seasons.

Background: The genetic improvement in growth and food habit domestication of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) have made breakthroughs in past decades, while the relevant work on disease resistance were rarely carried out. Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes, which are well known as their numbers and high polymorphisms, have been used as candidate genes to mine disease-resistant-related molecular markers in many species.
Methods And Results: In present study, we developed and characterized 40 polymorphic and biallelic InDel markers from the major histocompatibility complex genes of largemouth bass.

Overloading of nutrients such as nitrogen causes eutrophication of freshwater bodies. The spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) poses a threat to ecosystems. However, studies on the enrichment and spread of ARGs from increased nitrogen loading in algal-bacterial symbiotic systems are limited.

There is epidemiological evidence in humans that exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals such as bisphenol A (BPA) is tied to abnormal neuroendocrine function with both behavioral and intestinal symptoms. However, the underlying mechanism of this effect, particularly the role of gut-brain regulation, is poorly understood. We exposed zebrafish embryos to a concentration series (including environmentally relevant levels) of BPA and its analogues.

Artificial oyster reefs provide important spawning and nursery grounds for a variety of fishes and large mobile crustaceans. Between July 2016 and May 2017, seasonal surveys of species composition and community structure were performed in the artificial oyster reef area and control area adjacent to the Luanhe River Estuary in China. During the survey year, 56 species belonging to 50 genera, 45 families, and 19 orders were recorded.

Due to the widely usage in livestock, aquaculture and clinics, antibiotic residues are existed in aqueous environments and their potential toxicity to aquatic organisms is concerning. Here, we used zebrafish as the model to investigate the neurotoxicity and involved mechanism of seven antibiotics that were frequently detected in surface waters. The results revealed that the short-term exposure to clarithromycin (CLA), chlortetracycline (CTC) and roxithromycin (ROX) induced behavioral effects, with effective concentration of 1 μg/L (CTC and ROX) and 100 μg/L (CLA, CTC and ROX) respectively.

Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis is a type of red alga that contains seaweed polysaccharide agar. In this study, a novel non-agar seaweed polysaccharide fraction named GCP (short of crude polysaccharide obtained from Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis) was isolated from Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis. Structural analysis showed that GCP shows triple helical chain conformation when dissolved in water and has many branches and long side chains.
