Glass and crystal are inherently different material states in terms of their structural and physical features; consequently, the direct quantitative connection between crystal and glass is lacking. Herein, we first show that the liquid fragility m, which is featured by the negative departure degree of viscosity with the temperature at the glass transition temperature (Tg), has a direct exponential correlation with the ratio of the average longest metal-oxygen and the average phosphorus, silicon, or boron-oxygen bond lengths of the crystal in various oxides including phosphates, silicates, and borates. Such a result can be rationalized by the fact that the fragility m in these glass-formers is associated with the total network rigidity determined by the weakest bond due to the "bucket effect" and the bond pair inheritance of glass from that of the crystal.

Article Synopsis
  • G1 is a specific agonist for the GPR30 receptor that shows promise in reducing obesity and managing glucose levels, but its effects have only been tested in normal diet settings, not high-fat diets.
  • In a study using ovariectomized mice on a high-fat diet, G1 treatment led to weight loss but also increased blood glucose and insulin resistance.
  • The interaction between G1 treatment and the high-fat diet affected fat metabolism and key enzymes, raising concerns about G1's potential negative impact on blood sugar regulation and the need for further research on its side effects.

Synergistic Modulation of Orientation and Steric Hindrance Induced by Alkyl Chain Length in Ammonium Salt Passivator Toward High-performance Inverted Perovskite Solar Cells and Modules.

Adv Mater

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Reliability and Intelligence of Electrical Equipment, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Hebei University of Technology, Tianjin, 300401, P. R. China.

Organic ammonium salts are extensively utilized for passivating surface defects in perovskite films to mitigate trap-assisted nonradiative recombination. However, the influence of alkyl chain length on the molecular orientation and spatial steric hindrance of ammonium salt remains underexplored, hindering advancements in more effective passivators. Here, a series of organic ammonium salts is reported with varying alkyl chain lengths to passivate surface defects and optimize band alignment.

Neuronal basis of high frequency fMRI fluctuation: direct evidence from simultaneous recording.

Front Hum Neurosci

October 2024

Centre for Cognition and Brain Disorders/Department of Neurology, The Affiliated Hospital of Hangzhou Normal University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (RS-fMRI) has been extensively utilized for noninvasive investigation of human brain activity. While studies employing simultaneous recordings of fMRI and electrophysiology have established a connection between the low-frequency fluctuation (< 0.1 Hz) observed in RS-fMRI and the local field potential (LFP), it remains unclear whether the RS-fMRI signal exhibits frequency-dependent modulation, which is a well-documented phenomenon in LFP.

With the rising epidemic of obesity, metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes mellitus in China, metabolic dysfunction-associated non-alcoholic fatty liver disease has become the most prevalent chronic liver disease. This condition frequently occurs in Chinese patients with alcoholic liver disease and chronic hepatitis B. To address the impending public health crisis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and its underlying metabolic issues, the Chinese Society of Hepatology and the Chinese Medical Association convened a panel of clinical experts to revise and update the "Guideline of prevention and treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (2018, China)".

Heptafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid (HFPO-DA), as an alternative to perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), has been shown to pose similar environmental and health risks as other perfluorinated compounds. The electrochemical-based advanced oxidation processes are promising techniques for the treatment of perfluorinated compounds, and the boron-doped diamond (BDD) anode could degrade HFPO-DA under mild conditions. However, the roles of radicals in the degradation and how to overcome the steric hindrance of the -CF branch on the carboxyl group were not yet clear.
