The impact of housing temperature on exercise-induced metabolic adaptations is not well understood, despite extensive research on the benefits of exercise for metabolic health. The aim of this study was to elucidate how housing temperatures influence the molecular responses and metabolic benefits of exercise in mice. Male C57BL/6N mice were housed at either room temperature (RT, 21°C) or in a thermoneutral environment (TN, 29°C) and subjected to either a 6-week or acute exercise regimen.

The primary challenge hindering the widespread adoption of hydrogen energy is its storage, highlighting the need for effective storage media. In this study, we utilize first-principles calculations to systematically evaluate the superalkali cluster OLi decorated on a CN monolayer for its potential as an efficient hydrogen storage material. Our findings reveal that the OLi cluster binds to each side of the CN monolayer through a charge transfer mechanism, exhibiting a binding energy of 12.

Insect gustatory receptors play a critical role in modulating feeding behaviors by detecting external nutritional cues through complex biochemical pathways. Bitter taste receptors are essential for insects to identify and avoid toxins. However, the detailed molecular and cellular mechanisms by which these receptors influence insect feeding behavior remain poorly understood.

State Key Joint Laboratory of Environmental Simulation & Pollution Control, School of Environment, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China; Center for Atmospheric Environmental Studies, Beijing Normal University, Beijing 100875, China.

Iron and steel production (ISP) is one of significant atmospheric pollution emission sources in China. With the implementation of ultra-low emission (ULE) standards, a detailed and new updated emission inventory is urgently needed for better understanding of the temporal trends and spatial variation of emission characteristics. In this study, a unit-based comprehensive emission inventory of multiple hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) for the Chinese ISP spanned from 2012 to 2021, including the conventional pollutants, 13 kinds of Trace elements as well as 2 unconventional but toxic pollutants (PCDD/Fs, F), was dedicatedly developed by integrating dynamic localized emission factors with unit-based information of both the detailed activity level and abatement technology application.

Key Laboratory of Animal Ecology and Conservation Biology, Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, 100101, China.

The composition and function of animal gut microbiota are shaped by various factors, among which diet is one of the major factors. Diet is affected by seasonal shifts and geographical differences, which in turn impact the host's nutritional levels. To adapt to these environmental changes, the gut microbiome often produces matching responses.

However, types and sizes of DSCNVs in wheat, as well as their genome-wide distribution and potential functions are poorly known. Here, we identified 198,985 DSCNVs by investigating 491 genomes of common wheat, which accounted for 20% of the entire genome.

Metal-Organic Framework-Based NF Nanotrap for the Separation of NF and CF.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Soochow University, Suzhou 215123, China.

As an electronic specialty gas, nitrogen trifluoride (NF) has been widely used in the semiconductor, photovoltaic, and display industries. However, NF in industrial settings is typically mixed with CF, and the distillation method commonly used for their separation consumes significant energy. Herein, we propose a novel NF nanoadsorber featuring relatively proximal unsaturated metal sites.

Iridium-Catalyzed Enantioconvergent Construction of Piperidines and Tetrahydroisoquinolines from Racemic 1,5-Diols.

J Am Chem Soc

January 2025

Joint School of National University of Singapore and Tianjin University, International Campus of Tianjin University, Binhai New City, Fuzhou 350207, China.

We report herein a one-step synthesis of valuable enantioenriched piperidines and tetrahydroisoquinolines from readily available racemic 1,5-diols. Key to the success is the development of new iridacycle catalysts that enable efficient redox-neutral construction of two C-N bonds between diols and amines in an enantioconvergent fashion. Mechanistic studies identified an intriguing preferential oxidation of secondary versus primary alcohol in the diol substrate by the iridacycle catalyst, which set a challenging intermolecular amination of aryl-alkyl-substituted alcohol as the enantiodetermining step for this catalytic -heterocycle synthesis.
