The process of oxygenic photosynthesis is primarily driven by two multiprotein complexes known as photosystem II (PSII) and photosystem I (PSI). PSII facilitates the light-induced reactions of water-splitting and plastoquinone reduction, while PSI functions as the light-driven plastocyanin-ferredoxin oxidoreductase. In contrast to the highly conserved structure of PSII among all oxygen-evolving photosynthetic organisms, the structures of PSI exhibit remarkable variations, especially for photosynthetic organisms that grow in special environments.

September 2024

Hebei Technology Innovation Center for Energy Conversion Materials and Devices, National Demonstration Center for Experimental Chemistry Education, College of Chemistry and Materials Science, Hebei Normal University, Shijiazhuang, Hebei 050024, People's Republic of China.

Highly sensitive photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensors for trace carcinogens, such as heavy metal chromium(VI) [Cr(VI)] and antibiotic tetracycline (TC) are crucial. Herein, by integration of photoactive and redox phosphomolybdates with conjugated organic components, types of dual-mode PEC sensors were synthesized for sensing trace Cr(VI) and TC pollutants, with formulas of (Hbimb)[Co(bimb)][Co(HO)][Co(PMoOH)]·6HO (), (Hbib)[Co(HO)][Co(HO)][Co(PMoOH)]·9HO (), and (Hbib)[Co(Hbib)(HO)][Co(PMoOH)]·15HO (), where bimb represents 1,4-bis(1-imidazolyl)benzene and bib is 4,4'-bis(imidazolyl)bibphenyl. Hybrid consisted of a three-dimensional framework structure constructed by Co{PMo} clusters and one-dimensional (1D) {Co-bimb} chains, hybrid exhibited 1D Co ion-bridged Co{PMo} chains hydrogen-bonding with [Hbib] cations, and hybrid showed a discrete hybrid structure built upon a Co{PMo} cluster modified by the {Co-bib} unit.

Alanine is the most abundant chiral amino acid that exists into the D-alanine or L-alanine forms with diverse applications in the biomedical, pharmaceutical, plastics, and food industries. D/L-alanine production can be carried out through chemical, microbial fermentation, and biocatalytic methods and not much effective due to complicated processes or purification issues and is still challenging to achieve a higher yield. In the present study, biobrick method was utilized for efficient production of D/L-alanine in the recombinant BL21(DE3) with tandem three-gene co-expression plasmid.

Key Laboratory of Particle Astrophysics and Experimental Physics Division and Computing Center, Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 100049 Beijing, China.

In this Letter we try to search for signals generated by ultraheavy dark matter at the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) data. We look for possible γ rays by dark matter annihilation or decay from 16 dwarf spheroidal galaxies in the field of view of the LHAASO. Dwarf spheroidal galaxies are among the most promising targets for indirect detection of dark matter that have low fluxes of astrophysical γ-ray background while having large amount of dark matter.

Article Synopsis
  • p53 is a crucial tumor suppressor, and disruptions in its function can lead to tumor development, with previous research highlighting that certain Krüppel-associated box (KRAB) domain zinc-finger proteins (KZFPs) interact with and regulate p53 activity.
  • Recent analysis of gastrointestinal cancers identified ZNF8, a protein that interacts with p53, as a negative prognostic indicator for patients, as it reduces p53's transcriptional activity in colon cancer cells.
  • Experiments showed that manipulating ZNF8 levels affects cancer cell behaviors like growth and metastasis, and its higher expression in cancer tissues correlates with poorer patient survival, suggesting ZNF8 could be a

Plants grow by anchoring their roots in the soil, acquiring essential water and nutrients for growth, and interacting with other signaling factors in the soil. Root systems are crucial for both the basic growth and development of plants and their response to external environmental stimuli. Under different environmental conditions, the configuration of root systems in plants can undergo significant changes, with their strength determining the plant's ability to adapt to the environment.

Two-dimensional (2D) antiferromagnetic (AFM) materials boasting a high Néel temperature (), high carrier mobility, and fast spin response under an external field are in great demand for efficient spintronics. Herein, we theoretically present the MoB monolayer as an ideal 2D platform for AFM spintronics. The AFM MoB monolayer features a symmetry-protected, 4-fold degenerate Dirac nodal line (DNL) at the Fermi level.

Article Synopsis
  • Current biomarkers for gastric cancer (GC) are limited in their specificity and sensitivity, prompting a study to evaluate the significance of CD44v9 and TIM3 expression in tumor tissues.
  • The study used multiplex immunofluorescence staining and analyzed tumor tissues based on cytokeratin (CK) expression regions, revealing higher expression of CD44v9 and TIM3 in tumor tissues compared to normal tissues.
  • Key findings indicated that high levels of CD44v9 are linked to poor survival rates and can independently predict prognosis in GC patients, while TIM3 showed potential as a diagnostic marker with moderate sensitivity and high specificity.

The γ-ray emission from the W51 complex is widely acknowledged to be attributed to the interaction between the cosmic rays (CRs) accelerated by the shock of supernova remnant (SNR) W51C and the dense molecular clouds in the adjacent star-forming region, W51B. However, the maximum acceleration capability of W51C for CRs remains elusive. Based on observations conducted with the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO), we report a significant detection of γ rays emanating from the W51 complex, with energies from 2 to 200 TeV.
