Department of Orthopaedic Suigery, Hebei Medical University Third Hospital, No. 139 ZiQiang Road, QiaoXi District, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, China.

Background: Open fractures are challenging due to susceptibility to Staphylococcus aureus infections. This study examines the impact of Vancomycin-Loaded Calcium Sulfate (VLCS) and negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) on macrophage behavior in enhancing healing and infection resistance. Both VLCS and NPWT were evaluated individually and in combination to determine their effects on macrophage polarization and infection resistance in open fractures.

Although a sequential work-up for deep vein thrombosis has reached agreement worldwide, the mysterious nature of DVT following fractures brings challenges to early diagnosis and intervention. The objective of the present study was to develop and validate a nomogram for predicting preoperative DVT risk in patients with thoracolumbar fractures using readily available clinical data. Of the 1350 patients, 930 were randomly assigned to the training cohort.

The School of Medicine, Nankai University, Tianjin 300071, China; Department of Orthopaedics, Hebei Medical University Third Hospital, Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province 050000, China. Electronic address:

Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of imatinib (IM) in cancer therapy offers the potential to improve treatment efficacy while minimizing toxicity. There was a significant correlation between unbound concentration and clinical response and toxicity, compared with total plasma concentrations, and the quantification of unbound IM and its metabolite, N-desmethyl imatinib (NDI) are of interest for TDM. However, traditional unbound drug separation methods have shortcomings, especially are susceptible to non-specific binding (NSB) of drugs to the polymer-constructed components of filter membranes, which are difficult to avoid at present.

Background: Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) of the bladder is a rare non-urothelial tumor of the bladder. The treatment of LCNEC of the bladder is different from that of urothelial carcinoma (UC); therefore, early and accurate diagnosis is particularly important. As LCNEC of the bladder is rare and its clinical symptoms and radiographic features are similar to those of urothelial tumors, the clinical diagnosis of the disease remains challenging.

Department of Traditional and Western Medical Hepatology, Hebei Medical University Third Hospital, the Key Laboratory of Hepatic Fibrosis Mechanisms of Chronic Liver Diseases, Hebei Province, Hebei International Science and Technology Cooperation Base -- Hebei International Joint Research Center for Molecular Diagnosis of Liver Cancer, Shijiazhuang 050051, China.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common concomitant disease in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and prediabetes. Therefore, T2DM/NAFLD patient populations are at high risk for cardiovascular disease. The occurrence and progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease-related liver fibrosis and cardiovascular disease have a severe impact on the patient's prognosis and mortality rate.

Introduction: In infants with cholestasis, variations in the enterohepatic circulation of bile acids and the gut microbiota (GM) characteristics differ between those with biliary atresia (BA) and non-BA, prompting a differential analysis of their respective GM profiles.

Methods: Using 16S rDNA gene sequencing to analyse the variance in GM composition among three groups: infants with BA (BA group, n=26), non-BA cholestasis (IC group, n=37), and healthy infants (control group, n=50). Additionally, correlation analysis was conducted between GM and liver function-related indicators.

Article Synopsis
  • - The review investigates the link between frailty and negative postoperative outcomes in elderly hip fracture patients, aiming to clarify whether frailty can indeed predict these outcomes.
  • - A comprehensive search of various electronic databases led to the inclusion of 21 studies with over 49,000 patients, revealing that frail individuals face significantly higher mortality risks and complications after surgery.
  • - The findings emphasize frailty as a strong predictor of mortality and certain postoperative issues, although further research is needed on some specific complications like deep venous thrombosis.

Article Synopsis
  • Bladder cancer is increasing in prevalence and mortality rates, but the specific role of RAC3 in cisplatin-resistant bladder cancer cells is not fully understood.
  • Using bioinformatics and lab techniques, researchers examined RAC3 expression in bladder cancer tissues, its correlation with cancer characteristics, and its impact on the immune environment and cell signaling pathways.
  • Results showed higher levels of RAC3 in bladder cancer tissues linked to poor outcomes, with RAC3 overexpression promoting growth and resistance in cisplatin-resistant cells, while silencing it slowed their growth.
