Treatments of glioblastoma (GBM) have not been very effective, largely due to the inefficiency of drugs in penetrating the blood brain barrier (BBB). In this study, we investigated the potential of exosome-coated doxorubicin (DOX)-loaded nanoparticles (ENP) in BBB penetration, inducing immunogenic cell death (ICD) and promoting survival of GBM-bearing mice. DOX-loaded nanoparticles (NP) were coated with exosomes prepared from mouse brain endothelial bEnd.

Article Synopsis
  • Rats are commonly used in research to study intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration, and a standardized histology grading system is needed to improve comparisons of IVD conditions across different labs.
  • This study created and validated a new grading system based on eight key degenerative features, ensuring it was easy for both seasoned and novice graders to use.
  • The research also established a standard protocol for preparing rat IVD samples that enhances consistency and comparability in future studies.

Cerebroprotein hydrolysate-I (CH-I),a mixture of peptides extracted from porcine brain tissue, has shown a neuroprotective effect, but its role in brain senescence is unclear. In the present study, we established a senescence model of PC12 cells and mice to investigate the effect of CH-I on brain senescence via JAK2/STAT3 pathway. The results showed that CH-I could improve cell viability, inhibit the apoptosis of cells, and reduce the senescence-positive cells induced by D-galactose.

Heme as a cofactor has been proposed to bind with β-amyloid peptide (Aβ) and the formed Aβ-heme complex exhibits enhanced peroxidase-like activity. So far, studies on the interactions between heme, Cu and Aβ have been exclusively performed in dilute solution. However, the intracellular environment is highly crowded with biomolecules.

Paracetamol (PA) is a ubiquitous non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, mainly used to treat headaches, arthritis and osteoarthritis and other diseases. In this work, a novel label free photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor based on Bi-CuS/BiWO has been developed for the detection of PA, which was fabricated by a simple two-step hydrothermal process. It was found that Bi-CuS/BiWO with a CuS/BiWO heterojunction and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Bi possesses enhanced charge transfer and absorption wavelengths under visible light, particularly when compared to pristine BiWO films, thus producing an increase in the observed photocurrent.

This study reports a new type of artificial nanozyme based on Hemin-doped-HKUST-1 (HKUST-1, also referred to as MOF-199; a face-centered-cubic MOF containing nanochannels) as a redox mediator for the detection of dopamine (DA). Hemin-doped-HKUST-1 was successfully synthesized by one-pot hydrothermal method, which was combined with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) modified on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) to construct a sensor (Hemin-doped HKUST-1/rGO/GCE). The morphology and structure of Hemin-doped-HKUST-1 were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and infrared spectra (IR) techniques.
