Aim: The study aimed to identify predictive risk factor to identify high-stage histological chorioamnionitis (HCA) in pregnancies with cervical incompetence (CIC).

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted by including 116 pregnant women with cervical incompetence that required prophylactical and therapeutical cerclage. The histopathology examination on placenta was conducted with informed patient consent.

Objective: Early-onset neonatal sepsis (EONS) remains an important cause of neonatal mortality and has many risk factors, therefore, this study aimed to investigate the perinatal risk factors for EONS.

Methods: We searched CNKI, Wan Fang, VIP, CBM, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science to compile studies regarding the incidence of neonatal early-onset sepsis, published up to 1 May 2022. To evaluate the quality of the included studies, we used the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale, and the RevMan5.

Background: At present, neurointerventional surgery requires angiographers to perform operations in the digital subtraction angiography (DSA) room. Ionising radiation and chronic joint damage are still unavoidable for angiographers. Therefore, we researched and developed a neurointerventional robot-assisted system, which is operated by angiographers in an operating room outside the DSA room.

The distribution of Haptoglobin (HP) subtypes differs according to race and geography. It was also confirmed that the serum HP concentration was substantially affected by the HP subtypes. This study aimed to investigate the HP subtypes in northern Chinese and to establish reference intervals for the major HP subtypes using the BN II system.

Diversity of complement activation in different thyroid diseases.

Int Immunopharmacol

May 2022

Department of Endocrinology, Peking University First Hospital, No. 8 Xi Shi Ku Street, Xicheng District, Beijing 100034, China.

Objective: To investigate complement components expression in both thyroid tissues and serum from patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), Graves' disease (GD), and papillary thyroid cancer (PTC).

Methods: C1q, mannose binding lectin (MBL), Bb, C4d, C3d and membrane attack complex (MAC) (C5b-9) deposition and complement regulate proteins (CD46, CD55 and CD59) expression in thyroid tissues from HT, GD, PTC, and control groups were examined by IHC. C1q, MBL, Bb, C4d, C3a, and soluble C5b-9 (sC5b-9) serum levels in the HT, GD, PTC, and healthy donor (HD) groups were measured by ELISAs.

Background: microRNAs (miRNAs) have drawn more attention to the progression of atherosclerosis (AS), due to their noticeable inflammation function in cardiovascular disease. Macrophages play a crucial role in disrupting atherosclerotic plaque, thereby we explored the involvement of miR-223-3p in the inflammatory response in macrophages.

Methods: RT-qPCR was used to analyze the miR-223-3p levels in carotid arteries and serum of AS patients.

Altered Resting-State Functional Connectivity in the Default Mode Network in Male Juvenile Violent Offenders.

Brain Imaging Behav

April 2022

Department of Psychiatry, the Second Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, 139 Middle Renmin Road, Changsha, 410011, Hunan, China.

Young males are often associated with more violence, leading to some serious negative consequences. However, the physiology and the neuroimaging patterns underlying juvenile violence remain unclear. Of the limited knowledge on juvenile violence, the default mode network has been known to be associated with its pathophysiology.

Background: Some studies suggested an increased risk of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) among proton pump inhibitors (PPI) users. However, the published evidence is inadequate to define the association between PPI use and the risk of CAP.

Objective: The aims of our meta-analysis were to systematically assess the association between the risk of CAP and PPI use in adults to reduce the adverse effects of PPI and ensure the safety of medication for patients.

Article Synopsis
  • A study aimed to develop a convolutional neural network (CNN) for classifying breast masses into four categories: inflammatory masses, adenosis, benign tumors, and malignant tumors, using ultrasound images.
  • The study involved 3623 breast cancer patients, with data split into training and test groups, and compared different imaging models including 2D and color Doppler flow imaging.
  • The 2D-CDFI model achieved the highest accuracy at 89.2% in classifying the types of masses, outperforming the other two models (2D at 87.9% and 2D-CDFI-PW at 88.7%).
