Background: In recent years, several functional imaging studies have shown that the hypothalamus is closely associated with migraine and have suggested that the hypothalamus may be a potential site of migraine generation. Studying the characteristics of the functional network of the hypothalamus in persons with migraines may help to understand the neural mechanisms of migraine. We thus used resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rsfMRI) and Granger causal analysis to investigate the effective connectivity (EC) of the hypothalamus in persons with migraines.

HS alleviated sepsis-induced acute kidney injury by inhibiting PERK/Bax-Bcl2 pathway.

To investigate the protective mechanisms of hydrogen sulfide (HS) in sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (SAKI), we conducted an in vivo study using a SAKI mouse model induced by intraperitoneal lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection. Following 6 h of LPS injection, levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and blood urea nitrogen (Bun) were significantly elevated in mouse plasma. In the kidneys of SAKI mice, expression of HS-generating enzymes cysteinyl-tRNA synthetase (CARS), cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE) and cystathionine β-synthase (CBS) was markedly downregulated, while glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78), activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6), phosphorylated protein kinase R-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase/protein kinase R-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase (p-PERK/PERK), and B-cell lymphoma-2 recombinant protein X/B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bax/Bcl2) expression was significantly upregulated.

Background: The neurovascular conflict (NVC) at the brainstem exit zone of the facial nerve is considered the primary etiology of primary hemifacial spasm (HFS). Therefore, microvascular decompression (MVD) has become the preferred treatment for HFS. Successful neurovascular decompression can achieve significant therapeutic effects, and accurately identifying the site of compression is crucial for the success of this surgery.

Establishment of Reference Intervals for Bone Turnover Biomarkers in Healthy Populations in Northern China.

Aim: This study was intended to establish the reference intervals of bone turnover markers (BTMs) for healthy populations.

Methods: According to the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) EP28-A3c, we recruited 774 healthy Chinese and investigated their clinical characteristics and relationships among gender, age, season and BTMs. The reference intervals of BTMs for healthy populations in Hebei of China were established through defining the central 95% range of all observations.

The transient receptor potential melastatin 7 channel (TRPM7) is a nonselective cation channel highly expressed in some human cancer tissues. TRPM7 is involved in the proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of cancer cells. Modulation of TRPM7 could be a promising therapeutic strategy for treating cancer; however, efficient and selective pharmacological TRPM7 modulators are lacking.

Lymphoepithelioma-like intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (LEL-ICC) is a rare liver tumor that appears as a hepatic nodule on imaging with a specific pathological pattern, and the definitive diagnosis relies on its pathological histomorphology, immunophenotype, and Epstein-Barr encoding region test. Radical surgical resection is the primary treatment modality, and immunotherapy is expected to be a new adjuvant treatment option. LEL-ICC with massive multinucleated giant cell infiltration has not been reported so far.

We present a 64-year-old man with HCC and currently under the therapy with Pembrolizumab, who was admitted in our hospital with abdominal distension. Radiologic findings were consistent with small bowel ileus.

The Kv4 potassium channel modulator NS5806 attenuates cardiac hypertrophy in vivo and in vitro.

The compound NS5806 is a Kv4 channel modulator. This study investigated the chronic effects of NS5806 on cardiac hypertrophy induced by transverse aortic constriction (TAC) in mice in vivo and on neonatal rat ventricular cardiomyocyte hypertrophy induced by endothelin-1 (ET-1) in vitro. Four weeks after TAC, NS5806 was administered by gavage for 4 weeks.
