Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is defined as structural and functional cardiac abnormalities in diabetes, and cardiomyocyte death is the terminal event of DCM. Ferroptosis is iron-dependent oxidative cell death. Evidence has indicated that iron overload and ferroptosis play important roles in the pathogenesis of DCM.

Previous studies showed that hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) induced endothelial dysfunction by endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress induction and autophagy stimulation. This study aimed to determine the effect of hydrogen sulfide (HS) in homocysteine (Hcy)-induced endothelial dysfunction and observe the possible mechanism involved. Male Wistar rats (160-180g) were used and randomly divided into four groups: Control group, HHcy group, HHcy+Sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) group and NaHS group.

Aging is an inevitable and irreversible biological process that gradually heightens the risks of various diseases and death. As a newly discovered endogenous gasotransmitter, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has been identified to exert multiple beneficial impacts on the regulation of aging and age-related pathologies. This study was aimed at systematically exploring the relationship between asynchronous aging processes and H2S concentrations in various tissues of aging mice.

Background: Cardiovascular disease remains one of the leading causes of death globally. Myocardial ischemia and infarction, in particular, frequently cause disturbances in cardiac electrical activity that can trigger ventricular arrhythmias. We aimed to investigate whether catestatin, an endogenous catecholamine-inhibiting peptide, ameliorates myocardial ischemia-induced ventricular arrhythmias in rats and the underlying ionic mechanisms.

Purpose: Aging contributes significantly to cardiovascular diseases and cardiac dysfunction, leading to the upregulation of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in the heart and a significant decrease in hydrogen sulfide (HS) content, coupled with impaired cardiac diastolic function. This study explores whether supplementing exogenous hydrogen sulfide during aging ameliorates the decline in HS concentration in the heart, suppresses MMP-9 expression, and improves the age-associated impairment in cardiac morphology and function.
Methods: We collected plasma from healthy individuals of different ages to determine the relationship between aging and HS and MMP-9 levels through Elisa detection and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MC) detection of plasma HS content.

Sympathetic activation is a hallmark of heart failure and the underlying mechanism remains elusive. Butyrate is generated by gut microbiota and influences numerous physiological and pathological processes in the host. The present study aims to investigate whether the intestinal metabolite butyrate reduces sympathetic activation in rats with heart failure (HF) and the underlying mechanisms involved.

Background: The restoration of cerebrovascular regulation and improvement of cerebral blood flow in ischaemic regions are crucial for improving the clinical prognosis after stroke. An-Gong-Niu-Huang-Wan (AGNHW) is a famous traditional compound Chinese medicine that has been used for over 220Â years to treat acute ischaemic stroke; however, its role in the regulation of cerebral blood flow is still unclear. The aim of the present study was to investigate the regulatory effect of AGNHW on cerebral blood flow and microcirculation after ischaemic stroke and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms involved.

Diabetic is a major contributor to the unfavorable prognosis of ischemic stroke. However, intensive hypoglycemic strategies do not improve stroke outcomes, implying that diabetes may affect stroke outcomes through other ways. Ferroptosis is a novel programmed cell death pathway associated with the development of diabetes and ischemic stroke.

This study aimed to determine whether trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) was involved in sympathetic activation in aging and the underlying mechanisms. Our hypothesis is TMAO reduces P2Y12 receptor (P2Y12R) and induces microglia-mediated inflammation in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN), then leading to sympathetic activation in aging. This study involved 18 young adults and 16 old adults.

Memory is closely associated with neuronal activity and dendritic spine formation. Low-intensity transcranial ultrasound stimulation (TUS) improves the memory of individuals with vascular dementia (VD). However, it is unclear whether neuronal activity and dendritic spine formation under ultrasound stimulation are involved in memory improvement in VD.

Recent studies have found that gut microbes may affect blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity. This study was to investigate the relationship between gut microbes and forkhead box F2 (FOXF2) and the mechanism of troxerutin improving diabetic cognitive dysfunction (DCD). Diabetic mice were used in this study for the prophylactic application of troxerutin (60 mg/kg/d) for 8 weeks.

Amyloid beta (Abeta) synergistically enhances excitotoxicity of glutamate load by impairing glutamate transporter 1 (GLT1) expression and function, which exacerbates the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Our previous studies suggested that sulbactam can upregulate the expression levels and capacity of GLT1. Therefore, this study aims to investigate whether sulbactam improves neuronal tolerance against neurotoxicity of Abeta and glutamate load by up-regulating GLT1 in primary neuron-astrocyte co-cultures.

Background: Rupture of intracranial aneurysms (IAs) can cause subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), which leads to severe neurological dysfunction and even death. Exploring the risk factors for IA rupture and taking preventive measures accordingly can reduce or prevent the occurrence of SAH. Currently, there is still no consensus on the detrimental factors for IA rupture.

Our previous work has shown that activating PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway is involved in angiogenesis after ischemic stroke, and recent studies have revealed that astragaloside IV (AS-IV) exerts beneficial effects on cerebral protection after ischemic stroke. However, it is unclear whether the beneficial effects of AS-IV against ischemic stroke is related to angiogenesis and PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of AS-IV on angiogenesis and long-term neurological recovery after focal ischemic stroke as well as the underlying mechanisms.
