Primary cilia, functioning as crucial hubs for signal sensing and transduction, are integral to the development and maintenance of homeostasis across various organs. However, their roles in tooth homeostasis and repair remain inadequately understood. In this study, we reveal an indispensable role for primary cilia in regulating the homeostasis and regeneration of teeth, primarily through the regulation of cell proliferation.

Investigating the changes of phenotype and moleculars associated with aging with the increase of passage times of human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSC), to explore the role of WW-containing transcriptional regulator 1 (WWTR1) in the aging mechanism. hDPSCs were cultured by tissue block method, and were divided into 4 groups according to the age, algebra, cell knockdown and overexpression of WWTR1 in hDPSCs. Group Ⅰ: hDPSCs from human teeth were further divided into youth group (15-25 years old) and group middle-aged group (40-50 years old) according to different ages.

Background: Early treatment of mandibular advancement device (MAD) reverses the abnormal changes resulting from obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), but the underlying mechanism is not clear. We analysed the changes of genioglossus function before and after MAD treatment in OSA rabbits and explored the mechanism of mitochondrial autophagy.
Methods: Eighteen male New Zealand rabbits were randomised into three groups: the control group, Group OSA, and Group MAD.

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a risk factor for mucosal homeostasis and enhances the susceptibility to inflammation, in which neutrophils have been increasingly appreciated for their role. Here, barrier disruption and inflammation are observed at oral mucosa (gingiva) of T2D patients and mice. It is demonstrated that neutrophils infiltrate the gingival mucosa of T2D mice and expel obvious neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), while removal of NETs alleviates the disruption of mucosal barrier.

Objectives: This study aimed to identifyPAX9variants in non-syndromic tooth agenesis families of China, as well as to analyze the genotype⁃phenotype of non-syndromic tooth agenesis caused by PAX9variants, which can provide a basis for the genetic diagnosis of tooth agenesis.
Methods: We collected the data of 44 patients with non-syndromic oligodontia who underwent treatment at Stomatological Hospital of Hebei Medical University between 2018 and 2023. Whole-exome sequencing was performed on the peripheral blood of the proband and its core family members, and the variants were verified by Sanger sequencing.

Purpose: To verify the effect and mechanism of baicalein in the treatment of periodontitis through network pharmacology, molecular docking and in vitro experiments.
Methods: Firstly, multiple databases were used to predict targets of baicalein and periodontitis. And the screened key target genes of baicalein for treating periodontitis were subjected to GO and KEGG analysis; then these targets were analyzed by molecular docking techniques.

Background: The imbalance of oral microbiota can contribute to various oral disorders and potentially impact general health. Chronic alcohol consumption beyond a certain threshold has been implicated in influencing both the onset and progression of periodontitis. However, the mechanism by which chronic alcohol consumption affects periodontitis and its association with changes in the oral microbial community remains unclear.

Purpose: To investigate the efficacy of a modified maxillary protraction appliance in patients of skeletal Class Ⅲ with crowding.
Methods: Forty patients with skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion were divided into two groups, with 20 patients in each group. The experimental group had molar in a neutral or distal relationship and applied a modified maxillary protraction appliance, while the control group had molar mesial relationship and applied a conventional maxillary protraction appliance.

Isolated coronoid process fractures are uncommon, and iatrogenic isolated fractures are extremely rare. This case describes a displaced fracture of an isolated coronoid process thought to be due to excessive force applied by a dentist that had been overlooked and left untreated for about a month. The patient was a woman in her late 50's and she had undergone a molar extraction.

Background: To establish a strategy for stem cell-related tissue regeneration therapy, human gingival mesenchymal stem cells (hGMSCs) were loaded with three-dimensional (3D) bioengineered Matrigel matrix scaffolds in high-cell density microtissues to promote local tissue restoration.
Methods: The biological performance and stemness of hGMSCs under 3D culture conditions were investigated by viability and multidirectional differentiation analyses. A Sprague‒Dawley (SD) rat full-thickness buccal mucosa wound model was established, and hGMSCs/Matrigel were injected into the submucosa of the wound.

Systemic amyloid A (AA) amyloidosis, which is considered the second most common form of systemic amyloidosis usually takes place several years prior to the occurrence of chronic inflammation, generally involving the kidney. Activated HSF1, which alleviated unfolded protein response (UPR) or enhanced HSR, is the potential therapeutic target of many diseases. However, the effect of HSF1 on AA amyloidosis remains unclear.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is a serious and potentially life-threatening disease. Mandibular advancement device (MAD) has the characteristics of non-invasive, comfortable, portable and low-cost, making it the preferred treatment for mild-to-moderate OSAHS. Our previous studies found that abnormal contractility and fibre type distribution of the genioglossus could be caused by OSAHS.

To address the limitations of conventional sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB), a novel hybrid tracer (indocyanine green [ICG]-Tc-nanocolloid) has been developed. This meta-analysis aimed to compare the differences between the novel hybrid tracer and conventional methods using ICG or radioisotope (RI) for SLNB in head and neck malignancies. This study was registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42023409127).

Background: The selection of post-core material holds significant importance in endodontically treated teeth, influencing stress distribution in the dental structure after restoration. The use of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) glass fiber post-core possesses a better adaptation for different root canal morphologies, but whether this results in a more favorable stress distribution has not been clearly established.
Materials And Methods: This study employed finite element analysis to establish three models of post-core crown restoration with normal, oversized, and dumbbell-shaped root canals.

Acceleration of tooth movement during orthodontic treatment is challenging, with osteoclast-mediated bone resorption on the compressive side being the rate-limiting step. Recent studies have demonstrated that mechanoreceptors on the surface of monocytes/macrophages, especially adhesion G protein-coupled receptors (aGPCRs), play important roles in force sensing. However, its role in the regulation of osteoclast differentiation remains unclear.

Background: Periodontitis, a chronic infectious disease, is primarily caused by a dysbiotic microbiome, leading to the destruction of tooth-supporting tissues and tooth loss. Photodynamic therapy (PDT), which combines excitation light with photosensitizers (PS) and oxygen to produce antibacterial reactive oxygen species, is emerging as a promising adjuvant treatment for periodontitis.
Methods: This review focuses on studies examining the antibacterial effects of PDT against periodontal pathogens.
