Emerging tick-borne orthonairovirus infections pose a growing global concern, with limited understanding of the viral ovarian tumor-like cysteine proteases (vOTUs) encoded by novel orthonairoviruses. These vOTUs, a group of deubiquinylases (DUBs), disrupt the innate immune response. Yezo virus (YEZV), a recently discovered pathogenic orthonairovirus, was first reported in Japan in 2021.

The use of magnesium and methanol in the reduction of various functional groups has been well established. In this study, we present a reductive deuteration system using Mg/CHOD, which successfully facilitates the conversion of α,β-unsaturated esters, amides, and nitriles to their saturated counterparts. This protocol achieves good yields and high degrees of deuterium incorporation, while avoiding defunctionalization in the presence of various functional groups.

Although single-fraction high-dose-rate brachytherapy (SFHDR-BT) for localized prostate cancer has been attempted in clinical trials, there is currently a lack of relevant medical evidence. It is essential to conduct a systematic analysis of the long-term safety and efficacy of SFHDR-BT. Comprehensive and systematic searches for eligible studies were performed in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library databases.

Whether autoimmune diseases caused any effects on the risk of cancers remained yet clarified. This study aimed to investigate the causal effect of autoimmune diseases on pan-cancers through mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. The GWAS summary datasets of 10 autoimmune diseases were derived from the IEU or UK biobank website.

To prevent H9N2 avian influenza virus (AIV) and Avian metapneumonovirus/C (aMPV/C) infections, we constructed recombinant aMPV/C viruses expressing the HA protein of H9N2 AIV. In addition, EGFP was inserted into the intermediate non-coding region of P-M protein in the aMPV/C genome using a reverse genetic system. The conditions for rescuing the recombinant virus were enhanced followed by insertion of the H9N2 AIV HA gene into the same location in the aMPV/C.

Background: Studies have revealed abnormalities of the epiphyseal plate of the distal femur in patients with trochlear dysplasia, but it is unclear whether the epiphyseal plate could be remodeled after surgical correction of patellar dislocation.

Purpose: To investigate whether the morphology of the epiphyseal plate and trochlea could be improved after medial patellar retinaculum plasty in skeletally immature patients and to investigate the correlations between the morphology of the epiphyseal plate and trochlear dysplasia as well as clinical outcomes.

Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3.

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Automobile Materials, Ministry of Education, and School of Materials Science and Engineering, Jilin University, Changchun 130022, China.

The electrochemical nitrate (NO) reduction reaction (NORR) offers a promising route for NO wastewater treatment and sustainable ammonia (NH) synthesis. However, the reaction still faces the challenges of unsatisfactory productivity and selectivity. Herein, we report a hierarchical nanoporous Ag,Ni-codoped Cu (np Ag,Ni-Cu) catalyst that exhibits a high NH Faradaic efficiency of 98.

Excitation-mode-selective emission through multiexcitonic states in a double perovskite single crystal.

Light Sci Appl

January 2025

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, City University of Hong Kong, Kowloon, 999077, Hong Kong SAR, China.

Low-dimensional lead-free metal halide perovskites are highly attractive for cutting-edge optoelectronic applications. Herein, we report a class of scandium-based double perovskite crystals comprising antimony dopants that can generate multiexcitonic emissions in the ultraviolet, blue, and yellow spectral regions. Owing to the zero-dimensional nature of the crystal lattice that minimizes energy crosstalk, different excitonic states in the crystals can be selectively excited by ultraviolet light, X-ray irradiation, and mechanical action, enabling dynamic control of steady/transient-state spectral features by modulating the excitation modes.

Oxide materials with a non-centrosymmetric structure exhibit bulk photovoltaic effect (BPVE) but with a low cell efficiency. Over the past few years, relatively larger BPVE coefficients have been reported for two-dimensional (2D) layers and stacks with asymmety-induced spontaneous polarization. Here, we report a crucial breakthrough in boosting the BPVE in 3R-MoS by adopting edge contact (EC) geometry using bismuth semimetal electrode.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) possess unique immunomodulatory properties and have enormous potential in the treatment of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). However, the low implantation and survival rates of MSC in vivo, coupled with their weak immunosuppressive functions, have resulted in unstable clinical efficacy in the treatment of GVHD. Preconditioning of MSC with hypoxia, active molecules and gene modification can enhance the function of MSC and improve the implantation rate, survival rate and therapeutic effect of MSC.
