Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which are long-lasting environmental contaminants that are released into the environment during the e-waste disassembly process, pose a threat to human health. Human milk is a complex and dynamic mixture of endogenous and exogenous substances, including steroid hormones and PFAS. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to investigate the association between PFAS and steroid hormones in human milk from women living close to an e-waste disassembly area.

The use of silica nanoparticles (SiNPs) is increasing in popularity; however, the emissions released during manufacturing, use and during the disposal stages potentially harm the environment. SiNPs can enter the body and cause cardiac toxicity indirectly or directly. However, toxicological data on SiNPs in cardiac cells , and the detailed molecular mechanisms by which damage is caused remain unclear.

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between sleep duration and cognitive function in Chinese people older than 45 years, using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. The baseline survey was conducted in 2011 and the second and third wave surveys were conducted in 2013 and 2015, respectively. Multiple linear regression models were used to evaluate all associations.

Background The association between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglycerides with cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been well studied. No previous studies considered trajectory of these lipids jointly. This study aims to characterize longitudinal trajectories of lipid profile jointly and examine its impact on incident CVD.

Background This longitudinal study aims to characterize longitudinal body mass index ( BMI ) trajectories during young adulthood (20-40 years) and examine the impact of level-independent BMI trajectories on hypertension risk. Methods and Results The cohort consisted of 3271 participants (1712 males and 1559 females) who had BMI and blood pressure ( BP ) repeatedly measured 4 to 11 times during 2004 to 2015 and information on incident hypertension. Four distinct trajectory groups were identified using latent class growth mixture model: low-stable (n=1497), medium-increasing (n=1421), high-increasing (n=291), sharp-increasing (n=62).

Background: Despite economic growth and improved health outcomes over the past few decades, China still experiences striking urban-rural health inequalities. Urban and rural residents distinguished by the hukou system may experience profound disparities because of institutional effect. The aim of this study is to estimate trends in urban-rural disparities in self-care, outpatient care, and inpatient care utilization from a perspective of the hukou system.

Toxigenic isolates of Vibrio cholerae serogroups O1 and O139 from aquatic reservoirs are a key source for recurrent epidemics of cholera in human populations. However, we do not have an optimal understanding of the microbiology of the strains within these reservoirs, particularly outside of the time periods when there are active cholera cases in the surrounding community. The main objective of the present study was to identify and characterize V.

Objective: To analyze the evolution and genetic characterization of echovirus 11 (Echo11) from the acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) cases in Shandong province.

Methods: Isolation of Enterovirus was performed from stool samples of AFP cases from 1994 to 2009. All positive strains were sero-typed by neutralization test.

Objective: To identify the pathogen caused an outbreak of aseptic meningitis in Tancheng county of Shandong province in 2008, and to analyze the molecular characterization of VP1 gene of the Coxsackievirus B3(CVB3) isolates.

Methods: Stool and cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) specimens were collected from this outbreak for virus isolation with RD and Hep-2 cell. After typing by neutralization test, the VP1 gene of the isolates were amplified by RT-PCR and sequenced.
