Trepoenema denticola, a spirochetal bacterium, is associated with periodontal diseases. The type strain of the bacterium, ATCC 35405, is commonly used in a basic research. Here, we report that our stock strain derived from ATCC 35405 had a mutation on the chromosome and expressed differential characteristics from the original strain.

This clinical report describes immediate tooth auto-transplantation with an autograft of partially demineralized dentin/cementum matrix (pDDM), based on an orthodontic treatment plan for a 16-year-old male patient with a congenital missing tooth (#45). First, vital teeth (#14, #24) were extracted, and root canal filling (#14) was immediately performed with the support of a fixation device. Simultaneously, the tooth (#24) was crushed in an electric mill for 1 min, and the crushed granules were partially demineralized in 2% HNO solution for 20 min as the graft material.

The aim of this clinical case study was to observe biopsy tissues at 5 months after an autograft of a partially demineralized dentin/cementum matrix (pDDM) into a tooth-extracted socket exhibiting healing failure. A 66-year-old female presented with healing failure in the cavity for 2 months after the extraction (#36). Initial X-ray photos showed a clear remainder of lamina dura (#36), a residual root (#37), and a horizontal impaction (#38).

Background/aim: Fucoxanthinol (FxOH), a marine carotenoid, induces apoptosis and anoikis in human colorectal cancer (CRC) DLD-1 cells via the down-regulation of chloride intracellular channel 4 (CLIC4) expression, a key molecule for apoptosis. However, whether FxOH is susceptible to CLIC4 expression and its regulatory mechanisms in human CRC cells remains unknown. We investigated the inhibitory effects of FxOH on six types of human CRC cells with CLIC4 regulation.

Purpose: To clarify the proportion of ocular sarcoidosis with severe, refractory, and prolonged inflammation and their association with ocular complications and visual prognosis.
Study Design: Multicenter, retrospective, longitudinal cohort study.
Methods: Three hundred and twenty-three eyes of 164 patients (45 men; 119 women) with ocular sarcoidosis who visited Hokkaido University Hospital and Yokohama City University Hospital from 2010 to 2015.

Recent studies have shown that often carries a biosynthetic gene cluster termed either the island or the cluster that allows the production of a genotoxic polyketide-nonribosomal peptide hybrid secondary metabolite called colibactin. While the gene cluster is not always expressed, when the strain that resides in the colon produces the genotoxin, it is suspected to become a risk factor for colorectal cancer. Therefore, there is great interest in devising a simple method for the detection of colibactin-producing strains and understanding the detailed mechanism of how colibactin can induce oncogenesis, to develop convenient early screening methods and possible preventive treatments against colorectal cancer.

Fucoxanthin (Fx) is a critical pigment required for photosynthesis in brown algae and microalgae. Fx is also a dietary marine carotenoid that with potent anticancer activity in vitro and in vivo. Some popular light meals for increased satiety, such as biscuits, cereals, and crackers, are frequently fortified with micronutrients for human health benefits.

Background: Presenteeism is an indicator of productivity loss and the risk of absence from work due to mental health problems. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of sleep debt, social jetlag, and insomnia symptoms on presenteeism and psychological distress.
Methods: The participants were 351 Japanese workers (271 males, 79 females, and one of other gender, with a mean age of 49 ± 9.
Purpose: To investigate the effect of prosthodontic treatment on the ingestible food profile in adult Japanese outpatients, and to identify the related risk factors that can deteriorate the profile.
Methods: The participants were 277 outpatients who visited university-based specialty clinics in Japan for prosthodontic treatment. The demographic data, number of present teeth assessed via intraoral examination, and oral health-related quality of life assessed by the total Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-J54) scores of all participants were recorded before treatment.

Background: Autotransplantation is the surgical repositioning of a tooth within the same patient. It can be thought of as the controlled avulsion and re-implantation of a tooth and can be a viable alternative to other dental rehabilitation options. This review aimed to evaluate the survival rate (SR), major complications such as ankylosis rate (AR) and infection-related root resorption (RR), and overall success and failure rate (FR) in autotransplanted teeth.

Objective: There is no normative voice dataset regarding the vocal capacity of Japanese speakers in the English literature. We collected age- and sex-stratified data on the vocal capacity of vocally healthy Japanese speakers.
Methods: In total, 111 vocally healthy Japanese speakers (42 men and 69 women) were divided into the young (13 men and 30 women), middle-aged (18 men and 27 women), and elderly (11 men and 12 women) groups.

Benzotriazole UV stabilizers (BUVSs) are widely used as additives in various materials, including plastics, to prevent damage from UV-irradiation. However, despite the extensive usage of BUVSs, information on their toxicological properties is limited. In this study, we investigated the effect of BUVSs on the immune regulatory system via the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR).

Despite recent advances in bonding restorations, which are the basis of restorative dentistry, secondary caries are still able to form. Previously, a novel fluoride-containing zinc and copper (ZCF) nanocomposite was introduced to prevent the formation of caries due to its antibacterial activity. In this study, we studied the impact of ZCF nanoparticles on the adhesive strength of bonding restorations through micro-tensile bond strength (µTBS) testing.

Background/aim: Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare but very aggressive tumor that is primarily pleural in origin. The 5-year overall survival rate of patients with MPM has not improved despite therapeutic advances. Therefore, biomarker discovery to identify premalignant or early malignant tumors of the mesothelium are crucial.

The present study aimed to assess the incidence of the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphism TaqI in patients with periodontitis, and the potential association of this polymorphism with the severity of the disease. This was a case-controlled study, which included 162 adults divided into two groups as follows: Case group (81 patients diagnosed with periodontitis) and control group (81 patients without periodontitis). Venous blood was obtained from each sample from which DNA was extracted.

Background: Modernization has made individuals prefer processed and cooked foods (soft food), but this eating habit may have negative effects on the oral cavity. However, laboratory animals fed with soft diet are commonly used in an attempt to clarify this issue, and various oral tissues, including the salivary glands have been examined. In this review, we summarize the findings of previous studies concerning the responses of salivary glands to daily intake of soft diet.
