Neurodegeneration disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), have garnered significant attention due to their impact on individuals and society as a whole. Understanding the mechanisms behind these disorders and developing effective therapy strategies is of utmost importance. One potential therapeutic target that has emerged is Rho-associated coiled-coil containing protein kinase 2 (ROCK2), as its accumulation and activity have been closely linked to memory loss.

Objective: To investigate the molecular mechanism underlying inherent fosfomycin resistance of ().

Methods: The draft genomic sequences of 14 clinical hypervirulent/hypermucoviscous (HvKP/ HmKP) isolates were obtained using the next-generation sequencing technology. The genomic sequences were analyzed using the Resistance Gene Identifier (RGI) software for predicting the resistome based on homology and SNP models in the Comprehensive Antibiotic Resistance Database (CARD) and for identification of the presence of phosphomycin resistancerelated genes and and their mutations in the bacterial genomes.

Fk506 Inhibit Liver Regeneration in HOC Model Rat.

Transplant Proc

April 2023

Third Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, Shanxi Bethune Hospital, Shanxi Academy of Medical Sciences, Tongji Shanxi Hospital, Taiyuan, China.

Background: Studies have shown that lymphocytes support hepatic oval cell (HOC)-dependent liver regeneration and FK506(Tacrolimus) is known as an immunosuppressor. Therefore, we studied the role of FK506 in HOC activation and/or proliferation to guide the clinical use of FK506.

Methods: Thirty male Lewis rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: (A) intervene in activation (n = 8), (B) intervene in proliferation (n = 8), (C) control HOC model (n = 8), and (D) pure partial hepatectomy (PH) (n = 6).

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the prognostic value of the Immunoscore in Stage I/II colon cancer patients, using data from over 1,800 individuals across North America and Europe.
  • Results indicated that a high Immunoscore correlated with lower recurrence rates and better survival outcomes, especially significant in Stage II and high-risk Stage II patients.
  • The findings suggest that a low Immunoscore can effectively identify early colon cancer patients at risk of relapse, even when accounting for other clinical factors.

Objectives: To analyze the characteristics of diphenidol poisoning cases and to provide clues and technical means for the identification of such cases.

Methods: Biological samples of 9 deaths caused by diphenidol poisoning were detected by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS), and the characteristics of these cases were analyzed retrospectively.

Results: Most of the deaths caused by diphenidol poisoning were young females.

Radioactive iodine (RAI) plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). The curative effects of RAI therapy are not only related to radiosensitivity but also closely related to the accumulation of radionuclides in the lesion in PTC. Sinomenine hydrochloride (SH) can suppress tumor growth and increase radiosensitivity in several tumor cells, including PTC.

BACKGROUND: In this study, we evaluated the prognostic value of Immunoscore in patients with stage I−III colon cancer (CC) in the Asian population. These patients were originally included in an international study led by the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) on 2681 patients with AJCC/UICC-TNM stages I−III CC. METHODS: CD3+ and cytotoxic CD8+ T-lymphocyte densities were quantified in the tumor and invasive margin by digital pathology.

Tumor infiltration pattern (INF) and tumor origin site were reported to significantly affect the prognosis of gastric cancer (GC), while the immune status under these contexts is not clear. In this study, we correlated the density and phenotype of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) with INF and the tumor origin site to reflect the biological behavior of tumors from a new perspective and also determined their effects on overall survival (OS) and other related clinicopathological features in archival samples of 147 gastric cancers with 10-year follow-up data. We found that the INFc growth pattern (an invasive growth without a distinct border) of GC lacked immune cell infiltration, particularly the cytotoxic T cells and their activated form.

Institute of Hematology, Provincial Key Laboratory of Biotechnology, School of Medicine, Northwest University, Xi'an, 710069, People's Republic of China.

Background: Abnormal glycosylation in a variety of cancer types is involved in tumor progression and chemoresistance. Glycosyltransferase C1GALT1, the key enzyme in conversion of Tn antigen to T antigen, is involved in both physiological and pathological conditions. However, the mechanisms of C1GALT1 in enhancing oncogenic phenotypes and its regulatory effects via non-coding RNA are unclear.

Background: Breast cancer survivors experience altered body image and quality of life (QoL) due to the disease and its treatment. The multidimensional nature of body image and QoL makes their relationships complex. This study aimed to examine the associations between the two concepts in Chinese breast cancer survivors and test whether these associations are moderated by rural-urban residence.

Pre-eclampsia (PE), a pregnancy complication, affects 3-5% of all pregnancies worldwide and is the main cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity. However, there is no drug which can clearly slow this disease progression. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a natural compound extracted from green tea, has been found to enhance the treatment efficacy of oral nifedipine against pregnancy-induced severe PE.

Electronic address:

This study investigated whether transforming growth factor-β receptor I (TGF-βRI) and TGF-βRII mediate matrix degradation and abnormal hypertrophy in T-2 toxin-induced hypertrophic chondrocytes. Hypertrophic chondrocytes were exposed to TGF-βRI and TGF-βRII binding inhibitor (GW788388) for 24 h prior to exposure to different concentrations of T-2 toxin (0, 10, 25, and 50 ng/mL for 48 h). Hypertrophic chondrocytes were assessed based on the expression of matrix-degrading and terminal differentiation-related genes and cell viability.

Abnormal Level of Manganese, Iron, Iodine, and Selenium in the Hair of Children Living in Kashin-Beck Disease Endemic Areas.

Biol Trace Elem Res

October 2022

School of Public Health, Key Laboratory of Trace Elements and Endemic Diseases, Collaborative Innovation Center of Endemic Diseases and Health Promotion for Silk Road Region of Shaanxi Province, National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, Health Science Center of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, 710061, People's Republic of China.

Biological geochemistry is a main suggested cause of Kashin-Beck disease (KBD), due to the absence or excess of elements in the environment. Initially, Se deficiency is regarded as the most key role in the etiology of KBD, and selenium supplementation effectively helps to prevent and control KBD. However, several elements are reported to be relevant to KBD or selenium in succession, which indicated selenium deficiency is not the original etiology of KBD.
