Housing is an environmental social determinant of health that is linked to mortality and clinical outcomes. We developed a lexicon of housing-related concepts and rule-based natural language processing methods for identifying these housing-related concepts within clinical text. We piloted our methods on several test cohorts: a synthetic cohort generated by ChatGPT for initial infrastructure testing, a cohort with substance use disorders (SUD), and a cohort diagnosed with problems related to housing and economic circumstances (HEC).

Article Synopsis
  • Hypnopompic seizures, which emerge upon waking from sleep, are rare and difficult to diagnose, often requiring advanced EEG techniques for localization.
  • A case study of a 23-year-old male with drug-resistant epilepsy revealed that his hypnopompic seizures originated in the mesial orbitofrontal cortex and involved other brain areas, leading to apnea shortly after the seizures started.
  • The patient's surgical treatment targeting the affected brain regions has resulted in over seven months of being seizure-free, highlighting both the effectiveness of stereotactic EEG in identifying seizure foci and the potential neuroanatomical insights gained from this case about seizure mechanisms.

Schizophrenia is a chronic brain disorder associated with widespread alterations in functional brain connectivity. Although data-driven approaches such as independent component analysis are often used to study how schizophrenia impacts linearly connected networks, alterations within the underlying nonlinear functional connectivity structure remain largely unknown. Here we report the analysis of networks from explicitly nonlinear functional magnetic resonance imaging connectivity in a case-control dataset.
