Background/objective: Emotional dysregulation (ED) is a transdiagnostic variable underlying various psychiatric disorders, including addictive behaviors (ABs). This meta-analysis examines the relationship between ED and ABs (alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, gambling, and gaming), and indicators of AB engagement (frequency, quantity/time of use, severity, and problems).
Method: Searches were conducted in PubMed, Scopus, WoS, and PsycINFO.

Purpose: To determine the occurrence of gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms in different settings among cyclists participating in a non-professional cycling event. The nutritional intake during the event and the association between GI symptoms and both nutritional and non-nutritional factors were also analyzed.
Methods: A descriptive correlational study was performed among participants in the 2023 'Mallorca 312-Milestone Series' cycling event.

Adults who have incomplete distal renal tubular acidosis (dRTA) may present with recurrent urolithiasis due to metabolic acidosis, leading to bone resorption, which in turn causes hypercalciuria and urine alkalinization (pH > 6.0). Oral potassium citrate is the most commonly used treatment for dRTA, but some patients cannot tolerate this treatment.

Background: Few studies have previously evaluated the long-term impact of initiating the combined use of alcohol and cocaine early-in-life during adolescence. Our preclinical study characterized changes in affective-like behavior and/or voluntary ethanol consumption emerging later on in adulthood induced by a prior adolescent drug exposure, as well as tested therapeutical interventions (i.e.

Definitions of human pain acknowledge at least two dimensions of pain, affective and sensory, described as separable and thus potentially differentially modifiable. Using electroencephalography, we investigated perceptual and neural changes of emotional pain modulation in healthy individuals. Painful electrical stimuli were applied after presentation of priming emotional pictures (negative, neutral, positive) and followed by pain intensity and unpleasantness ratings.

Periodontal disease (PD) prevention and treatment products typically demonstrate excellent antibacterial activity, but recent studies have raised concerns about their toxicity on oral tissues. Therefore, finding a biocompatible alternative that retains antimicrobial properties is imperative. In this study, a chemically modified hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogel containing mangostanin (MGTN) was developed.

The aim of our cross-sectional and longitudinal study is to assess the relationship between daytime and night-time sleep duration and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in adults with metabolic syndrome after a 1-year healthy lifestyle intervention. Analysis of the data from 2119 Spanish adults aged 55-75 years from the PREDIMED-Plus study was performed. Sleep duration was assessed using a wrist-worn accelerometer.

(1) Background: Cold exposure induces metabolic adaptations that can promote health benefits, including increased energy disposal due to lipid mobilization in adipose tissue (AT). This study aims to identify easily measurable biomarkers mirroring the effect of cold exposure on AT. (2) Methods: Transcriptomic analysis was performed in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and distinct AT depots of two animal models (ferrets and rats) exposed to cold, and in PBMCs of cold-exposed humans.

Background: This study presents a laparoscopic surgical protocol for right hemicolectomy and D3 lymphadenectomy (R-D3L) in right colon cancer and reports the oncological outcomes based on a prospective series.
Methods: The study comprises two phases. In the first phase, a dynamic demonstration of the R-D3L surgical protocol is provided through textual explanation, illustrations, and edited surgical videos.
We investigated the association between outdoor artificial light-at-night (ALAN) exposure and cardiometabolic risk in the GCAT study. We included 9,752 participants from Barcelona (59% women). We used satellite images (30m resolution) and estimated photopic illuminance and the circadian-regulation relevant melanopic illuminance (melanopic EDI).

Background: The aging process causes anatomical and physiological changes that predispose to the development of late-life depression while reduces the efficacy of classical antidepressants. Novel fast-acting antidepressants such as ketamine might be good candidates to be explored in the context of aging, especially given the lack of previous research on its efficacy for this age period. Thus, the aim of the present study was to characterize ketamine's effects in older rats.

8q21.11 microdeletions encompassing the gene encoding transcription factor ZFHX4, have previously been associated by us with a syndromic form of intellectual disability, hypotonia, decreased balance and hearing loss. Here, we report on 57 individuals, 52 probands and 5 affected family members, with protein truncating variants (n=36), (micro)deletions (n=20) or an inversion (n=1) affecting with variable developmental delay and intellectual disability, distinctive facial characteristics, morphological abnormalities of the central nervous system, behavioral alterations, short stature, hypotonia, and occasionally cleft palate and anterior segment dysgenesis.

Objectives: The evidence on water intake in the prevention of kidney function decline is scarce at population level in well-being individuals at high cardiovascular risk. Therefore, we aimed to longitudinally evaluate the associations between total water intake and subtypes and kidney function, through estimated-Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR).
Methods: Three-year prospective analysis conducted in 1986 older adults (aged 55-75 year) with overweight/obesity and metabolic syndrome from the PREDIMED-Plus study.

Cognitive decline has been reported as a short-term sequela in patients hospitalized for coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19). Whether COVID-19 is associated with late cognitive impairment in older free-living individuals with high cardiovascular risk, a group at greater risk of cognitive decline, is unknown. We determined this association of COVID-19 through a longitudinal evaluation of post-COVID-19 cognitive performance and impairment as post hoc analysis in 5,179 older adults (48% female) with mean (SD) age 68.

Background: The multinational, open-label COMPLETE study (NCT03835715) investigated the effectiveness of vortioxetine in alleviating emotional blunting in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) experiencing inadequate response and emotional blunting while being treated with a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) or serotonin-noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). This paper presents results for the subgroup of patients enrolled in Spain.
Methods: Patients with MDD (n = 67) experiencing partial response and emotional blunting during monotherapy with an SSRI or SNRI were switched to vortioxetine (10-20 mg/day) for 8 weeks.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) are genetically distinct disorders typically associated with pathogenic variants in TSC1 and TSC2 for the former and PKD1 and PKD2 for the latter. TSC2 and PKD1 lie adjacent to each other, and large deletions comprising both genes lead to TSC2/PKD1 contiguous gene deletion syndrome (CGS). In this study, we describe a young female patient exhibiting symptoms of TSC2/PKD1 CGS in which genetic analysis disclosed two noncontiguous partial gene deletions in TSC2 and PKD1 that putatively are responsible for the manifestations of the syndrome.

Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease observed in clinical practice worldwide. This disorder has been independently associated with an increased risk of developing chronic kidney disease (CKD). The aim of this study was to evaluate whether a 2-year intervention based on a Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) and physical activity focussed on reducing intrahepatic fat contents (IFC) was associated with a decreased risk of CKD.
