(1) Background: Cold exposure induces metabolic adaptations that can promote health benefits, including increased energy disposal due to lipid mobilization in adipose tissue (AT). This study aims to identify easily measurable biomarkers mirroring the effect of cold exposure on AT. (2) Methods: Transcriptomic analysis was performed in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and distinct AT depots of two animal models (ferrets and rats) exposed to cold, and in PBMCs of cold-exposed humans.

Unlabelled: infection (CDI) causes alterations in the intestinal microbiota, frequently associated with changes in the gut metabolism of bile acids and cholesterol. In addition to the impact on microbiome composition and given the metabolic changes occurring during CDI, our work focuses on the importance to know the effects at the local and systemic levels, both during the infection and its treatment, by paying particular attention to plasma lipid metabolism due to its relationship with CDI pathogenesis. Specific changes, characterized by a loss of microbial richness and diversity and related to a reduction in short-chain acid-producing bacteria and an increase in bile salt hydrolase-producing bacteria, were observed in the gut microbiota of CDI patients, especially in those suffering from recurrent CDI (RCDI).

Background: The aging process causes anatomical and physiological changes that predispose to the development of late-life depression while reduces the efficacy of classical antidepressants. Novel fast-acting antidepressants such as ketamine might be good candidates to be explored in the context of aging, especially given the lack of previous research on its efficacy for this age period. Thus, the aim of the present study was to characterize ketamine's effects in older rats.

Objectives: The evidence on water intake in the prevention of kidney function decline is scarce at population level in well-being individuals at high cardiovascular risk. Therefore, we aimed to longitudinally evaluate the associations between total water intake and subtypes and kidney function, through estimated-Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR).
Methods: Three-year prospective analysis conducted in 1986 older adults (aged 55-75 year) with overweight/obesity and metabolic syndrome from the PREDIMED-Plus study.

Cognitive decline has been reported as a short-term sequela in patients hospitalized for coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19). Whether COVID-19 is associated with late cognitive impairment in older free-living individuals with high cardiovascular risk, a group at greater risk of cognitive decline, is unknown. We determined this association of COVID-19 through a longitudinal evaluation of post-COVID-19 cognitive performance and impairment as post hoc analysis in 5,179 older adults (48% female) with mean (SD) age 68.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) are genetically distinct disorders typically associated with pathogenic variants in TSC1 and TSC2 for the former and PKD1 and PKD2 for the latter. TSC2 and PKD1 lie adjacent to each other, and large deletions comprising both genes lead to TSC2/PKD1 contiguous gene deletion syndrome (CGS). In this study, we describe a young female patient exhibiting symptoms of TSC2/PKD1 CGS in which genetic analysis disclosed two noncontiguous partial gene deletions in TSC2 and PKD1 that putatively are responsible for the manifestations of the syndrome.

Improved soft tissue integration (STI) around dental implants is key for implant success. The formation of an early and long-lasting transmucosal seal around the implant abutment might help to prevent peri-implantitis, one of the major causes of late implant failure. In natural teeth, collagen fibers are firmly inserted and fixed in the cementum of the tooth and emerge perpendicular to the gingival tissue.

Advanced splenic flexure tumors are uncommon and have a higher risk of relapse. To ensure that the resection includes the entire area of lymphatic drainage with a complete mesocolic excision (CME), a left extended colectomy is needed. In peritoneal carcinomatosis, there is often extensive involvement of the sigma and splenic flexure of the colon.

Several abdominal-located cancers develop metastasis within the peritoneum, what is called peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC), constituting a clinical challenge in their therapeutical management, often leading to poor prognoses. Current multidisciplinary strategies, including cytoreductive surgery (CRS), hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), and pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy (PIPAC), demonstrate efficacy but have limitations. In response, alternative strategies are explored in the drug delivery field for intraperitoneal chemotherapy.
