Hypoxia can weaken the efficacy of radiotherapy and decrease tumor immunogenicity leading to immune escape. Thus, a thorough understanding of the key signaling pathways regulated by hypoxia is vitally important to enhance the radiosensitivity and improve immunosuppressive microenvironment of glioma. In this study, we verified the crucial role of hypoxia-inducible gene 2 (HIG-2) in lipid droplet (LD) accumulation and demonstrated that HIG-2 binding to frizzled class receptor 10 (FZD10) activated Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and increased its downstream insulin-like growth factor binding protein 2 (IGFBP2) level in microparticles (MPs) derived from glioma stem cells (GSCs), leading to decreased radiosensitivity and immunogenicity of MPs-receiving cells via the cross-talk between GSCs and non-stem glioma cells (GCs).

Breast milk contains a diverse array of symbiotic microorganisms, including beneficial probiotics. While most research has focused on the bacterial composition of breast milk, the fungal community (mycobiota) has received limited attention. In this study, we isolated and evaluated yeast strains from breast milk, demonstrating the safety and probiotic potential of four strains through hemolysis tests, antimicrobial activity, tolerance to gastrointestinal conditions, aggregation, cell adhesion, and antioxidant activity assays.

Background: Metabolic-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is one of the most prevalent liver diseases worldwide, with a global prevalence estimated between 3% and 5%, posing a significant health burden. Human liver organoids (HLOs) have previously been generated to model steatohepatitis, offering a potential cellular disease model for studying MASH. However, the current HLO model lacks detailed molecular characterizations and requires further improvement.

A strategic research plan (SRP) serves as a compass for the patient advocacy organizations driving the therapeutic options for their rare disorder. The MED13L Foundation commissioned the SRP in 2022 through COMBINEDBrain, a consortium of patient advocacy organizations of rare neurodevelopmental disorders, working toward clinical trial readiness. The MED13L Foundation SRP is an objective evaluation of MED13L literature including clinical and basic science knowledge interwoven with an assessment of preclinical trial readiness tools necessary for achieving therapeutic interventions.

Introduction: Increasing evidence indicates that sex is a factor that impacts the abuse liability and relapse vulnerability of prescription opioids like oxycodone. However, while women are more likely than men to be prescribed and to use these drugs, the impact of sex and ovarian hormones on prescription opioid use and relapse vulnerability remains unclear. Accurately assessing these measures is complicated by the fact that chronic opioid exposure can lower ovarian hormone levels and cause cycle irregularities.

Working memory refers to the temporary retention of a small amount of information used in the execution of a cognitive task. The prefrontal cortex and its connections with thalamic subregions are thought to mediate specific aspects of working memory, including engaging with the hippocampus to mediate memory retrieval. We used an operant delayed-non match to position task, which does not require the hippocampus, to determine roles of the rodent medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), the nucleus reuniens thalamic region (RE), and their connection.

Objective: This study examines the mediating role of cognitive flexibility in the relationship between home-school co-education (H-SCE) and depressive symptom among vocational college students in urban and rural areas of China.
Methods: Utilizing the Theory of Overlapping Spheres of Influence, this research explores how H-SCE influences depressive symptom, considering cognitive flexibility as a key mediating factor. The study utilized established scales, including the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) for parent-child relationships, the Student-Teacher Relationship Scale (STRS), the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory (CFI), and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D10).

Background: Gene therapy holds great potential for treating various acquired and inherited pulmonary diseases. Adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors have been thought to be primary candidates for gene delivery in patients with pulmonary diseases. However, the tropism of AAVs in the lungs remains largely unknown.

Background: China faces the highest burden of latent multidrug-resistant or rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (MDR/RR-TB). We aim to evaluate the health and economic impacts of Vaccae (a novel TB vaccine) and enhanced drug-resistant TB (DR-TB) management strategies.
Methods: Using a compartmental model calibrated with national TB data, we evaluated nine interventions from 2025-2050: enhanced DR-TB management (S1); Vaccae vaccination for those with Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection targeting specific age groups (S2: adolescents, S3: adolescents and young adults, S4: working-age adults, S5: elderly); and combined strategies (S6: S2+S1, S7: S3+S1, S8: S4+S1, S9: S5+S1).

Production of specialized proresolving mediators (SPMs) during the resolution phase in the acute inflammatory response is key to orchestrating complete resolution. Here, we uncovered a trihydroxy resolvin in fresh human saliva. We identified and determined its complete stereochemistry as 7S,16R,17R-trihydroxy-4Z,8E,10Z,12E,14E,19Z-docosahexaenoic acid (17R-RvD2) using total organic synthesis and matching of physical properties.

Biochar-based fertilizers show promise in enhancing nutrient utilization and soil health, but their slow-release performance remains a challenge. Herein, hydrogel membranes incorporating iron oxide nanoparticles within a polyvinyl alcohol and starch matrix (Fe/PVA/ST) were synthesized. These membranes were utilized to coat compound fertilizer particles, with biochar powder applied to the outer layer to form what is known as Fe/PVA/ST-BSRFs.

The effects of dynamic high-pressure microfluidization (DHPM) on the structural, emulsifying properties, in vitro digestion and antioxidant activity of whey protein isolate (WPI) were investigated. The results demonstrated that WPI treated with 100 MPa DHPM exhibited superior emulsification performance. This can be attributed to the conformational changes induced by 100 MPa DHPM in WPI, leading to a transformation from disordered structures to ordered structures and an increased exposure of fluorophore such as tryptophan residues and hydrophobic groups, reduced aggregation state and particle size of WPI.

The substances that cause abnormal DNA structures are known as DNA damage-inducing factors, and their resulting DNA damage has been extensively studied and proven to be closely related to cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and aging. Prolonged exposure to DNA damage-inducing factors can lead to a variety of difficult-to-treat diseases, yet these factors have not been well summarized. It is crucial to use a combination of environmental science and life science to gain a deep understanding of the environmental sources and biological consequences of DNA damage-inducing factors for mechanistic research and prevention of diseases such as cancer.
