Surgical Excision and Radiotherapy for Giant Keloids in Auricula: A Case Report.

Keloids are characterized by excessive growth of fibrous tissue resulting from abnormal wound-healing processes. They may lead to functional impairments, aesthetic deformities, pruritus, and a decreased quality of life. Various therapies, including intralesional corticosteroid injections, cryotherapy, laser therapy, surgical excision, and radiotherapy, have been used to manage keloids, but the recurrence rates remain high.

Functional soft palate reconstruction.

Background: The excision of oropharyngeal carcinoma of more than 50% of the soft palate followed by static reconstruction may result in functional deficits, including velopharyngeal insufficiency, swallowing, and speech difficulties. We describe a functional soft palate reconstruction technique aimed at restoring aeromechanical and acoustic functions, enabling swallowing without nasal regurgitation and speech with low nasalance.

Material And Methods: We developed a new operative technique, using muscle transfer and a free flap to create a dynamic reconstruction.

Development and Validation of a Diagnostic Model for Stanford Type B Aortic Dissection Based on Proteomic Profiling.

Purpose: Stanford Type B Aortic Dissection (TBAD), a critical aortic disease, has exhibited stable mortality rates over the past decade. However, diagnostic approaches for TBAD during routine health check-ups are currently lacking. This study focused on developing a model to improve the diagnosis in a population.

Role of neck dissections in the management of carotid body tumors.

Objective: Carotid body tumors (CBTs) are rare neoplasms of the paraganglia at the carotid bifurcation. While typically benign, CBTs occasionally exhibit malignancy, metastasizing to nearby lymph nodes. Histopathologic analysis alone is insufficient to confirm malignancy, requiring metastases to non-neuroendocrine tissue for a definitive diagnosis.

Polysomnographic features of hypoglossal nerve stimulation efficacy: Looking deeper than the apnea-hypopnea index.

Objectives: Hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HGNS) is a promising surgical option for patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who are intolerant of continuous positive airway pressure therapy (CPAP). Efficacy studies for HGNS stimulation largely focus on the apnea-hypopnea index and/or oxygen desaturation index. This study's objective was to show the physiological effects of HGNS stimulation on upper airway patency, airflow, and treatment effect during polysomnography (PSG) testing.

Prognostic value of inflammation and nutritional indicators for sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma: A single-center retrospective study.

Introduction: Systemic inflammatory and nutritional markers are associated with the prognosis of various cancers. However, their association with sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma (SNSCC) prognosis remains unclear. This study aimed to identify systemic inflammatory and nutritional markers associated with the postoperative prognosis of patients with SNSCC and to clarify the clinical value of these markers.

The feasibility of endoscopic stapes surgery: A three-dimensional planning method.

Objective: The primary aim of this study was to investigate the accuracy of a semi-automatic algorithm in assessing the feasibility and complexity of endoscopic stapes surgery preoperatively.

Methods: A semi-automatic algorithm was developed to simulate endoscopic stapes surgery in 3D. To test the accuracy of the algorithm, five fresh-frozen cadaveric heads (ten ears) were used.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between a history of otitis media (OM) in early childhood and speech reception thresholds (SRT) in later childhood, using the Dutch digits-in-noise (DIN) test at ages 9 and 13 years.

Methods: This study was conducted within the Generation R study, a prospective birth cohort in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Children underwent pure-tone audiometry and DIN testing at ages 9 (2011-2015) and 13 (2016-2020) years.

Validity and Reliability of the Arabic Cough Severity Index.

Objectives: This study aimed to translate and validate the Cough Severity Index (CSI) into Arabic (A-CSI) and to evaluate its validity and reliability among patients with chronic cough.

Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive questionnaire-based validation study was conducted at two tertiary hospitals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, between December 2023 and August 2024. The CSI was translated from English into Arabic using the forward-backward method.

A Rare Case of Ramsey Hunt Syndrome With Cranial Polyneuropathy: Findings of the Brain MRI.

In this case, we present the case of a 74-year-old female patient who visited the University Hospital of Patras, Greece, because of a 10-day history of earache and discharge in the left ear. Concurrently, the patient exhibited ipsilateral peripheral facial nerve palsy. We also observed vesicular eruption at the auricle and the external auditory canal (EAC) of the left ear.

Cochlear implantation in adults with acquired single-sided deafness improves cortical processing and comprehension of speech presented to the non-implanted ears: a longitudinal EEG study.

Former studies have established that individuals with a cochlear implant (CI) for treating single-sided deafness experience improved speech processing after implantation. However, it is not clear how each ear contributes separately to improve speech perception over time at the behavioural and neural level. In this longitudinal EEG study with four different time points, we measured neural activity in response to various temporally and spectrally degraded spoken words presented monaurally to the CI and non-CI ears (5 left and 5 right ears) in 10 single-sided CI users and 10 age- and sex-matched individuals with normal hearing.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that the high expression of CXC motif chemokine ligand 16 (CXCL16) in cancer correlates with poor prognosis, as well as tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. While CXCL16 can serve as a tumor biomarker, the underlying mechanism in modulating head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remains unclear. Methods: We retrieved exome sequencing data from 94 individuals in 70 Meniere's disease (MD) families.

TFE3-rearranged perivascular epithelioid cell tumors of the head and neck with rare fusion partners: clues to the differential diagnosis between benign and malignant tumors.

Background: Perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) rarely appear in the head and neck region. This case report describes two transcription factor E3 (TFE3)-rearranged PEComa cases, consisting of one in the orbit and one in the nasal cavity.

Case Presentation: Both cases demonstrated sheet-like or focal nested architecture and comprised epithelioid cells with abundant clear to eosinophilic cytoplasm and vascular stroma.

Background: Postoperative patients with oral cancer are deeply distressed about their body image. However, their true inner feelings and the factors influencing body image remain unclear.

Aims: This study aims to investigate the experience of body image disturbance in patients 3 months after oral cancer surgery and analyze the influencing factors.

Inflammatory diseases are often chronic and recurrent, and current treatments do not typically remove underlying disease drivers. T cells participate in a wide range of inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis, Crohn's disease, oesophagitis and multiple sclerosis, and clonally expanded antigen-specific T cells may contribute to disease chronicity and recurrence, in part by forming persistent pathogenic memory. Chronic rhinosinusitis and asthma are inflammatory airway diseases that often present as comorbidities.

Auditory decision-making deficits after permanent noise-induced hearing loss.

Loud noise exposure is one of the leading causes of permanent hearing loss. Individuals with noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) suffer from speech comprehension deficits and experience impairments to cognitive functions such as attention and decision-making. Here, we investigate the specific underlying cognitive processes during auditory perceptual decision-making that are impacted by NIHL.

Dysphonia and COVID-19: A Review.

Introduction: Vocal symptoms are frequent in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and may occur during or after infection.

Objective: To conduct a descriptive review on the topic "dysphonia and COVID-19" in order to alert specialists to these symptoms associated with the virus and sequelae.

Methodology: A literature review was carried out in the main databases: Web of Science, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus, between April 2020 and April 2024 using descriptors that related COVID-19 or severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) to voice disorders.

Vonoprazan Fumarate: A Promising Therapeutic Option for the Rapid Relief of Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Disease.

Objective: The aim is to examine the Reflux Symptom Score-12 (RSS-12) and assess the effectiveness of vonoprazan fumarate in managing laryngopharyngeal reflux disease (LPRD) among the Chinese population.

Methods: A total of 140 patients with LPRD who were treated at our otorhinolaryngology outpatient clinic were included. The patients were randomly divided into the vonoprazan treatment group and the esomeprazole treatment group.
