Background: India is witnessing a significant increase in the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and addressing this requires a comprehensive and multi-faceted approach. The burden of NCDs puts a strain on the healthcare system, requiring an increased focus on preventive measures, early detection, and management of chronic conditions. Adopting a risk-based approach to cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in resource-poor settings offers several economic and social advantages.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common metabolic/ endocrine disorder seen predominantly in women in their reproductive age, which increases the risk of infertility, endometrial cancer and metabolic disorders. IL-27 and IL-38 are recently discovered, novel anti-inflammatory cytokines whose role in immune-endocrine dysfunction seen in PCOS is largely unknown.
Methods: In the present study, we quantified these two cytokines along with markers for meta-inflammation (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, IL-1Ra, IL-10 and TGF-β) and hormonal dysregulation (insulin, leptin, adiponectin, FGF-21, testosterone and DHEA-S) in the serum of PCOS women (n=44), along with age matched controls (n=20), by ELISA.

Background And Aims: The rising prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a matter of serious concern worldwide. Hyperuricemia has been observed as an independent risk factor in the development of MetS and each of its individual components in different populations. This study aims to determine the association of hyperuricemia with MetS and its individual components in a Pakistani cohort.

Carotid stenosis (CS) is a buildup of atherosclerotic plaque within the artery leading to a wide range of symptoms, from mild symptoms, including blurred vision and confusion, to much more life-threatening presentations, including paralysis due to stroke. The presentation is insidious, with symptoms exhibiting predominantly at severe stenosis; hence the emphasis is placed on the importance of early diagnosis, treatment, and lifestyle modifications. CS is seen undergoing almost the same pathogenesis of any atherosclerotic plaque formation, from endothelial damage of the artery lumen to the formation of a fibrous cap with a foam cell, lipid-filled core.

The purpose of this literature review was to explore and compare the efficacy and safety of droxidopa (an existing treatment) and ampreloxetine (a newer medication) in the treatment of nOH. We used a mixed-method literature review that addresses the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of nOH in Parkinson's disease in a general way, with a more exploratory approach to droxidopa- and ampreloxetine-controlled trial studies.

Introduction: Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common childhood infectious disease, caused by enteroviruses (EVs) which can present with typical or atypical lesions. Although the disease is self-limiting, it can also lead to serious complications. In the era of polio eradication, it is important to understand the population dynamics of enteroviruses causing HFMD as one of the circulating strains may become dominant.

Pan-leukocyte exhaustion is a physiological process associated with immune homeostasis. Too much of immune exhaustion can lead to immune impairment and increased susceptibility to infections and cancer; too little can lead to chronic inflammation. Since type-2 diabetes subjects have both impaired immunity and metainflammation, we looked at TLR induced pan-immune exhaustion and its regulation, in these subjects.

This letter describes some positive effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on dental education in India. The apex body of dental education, the Dental Council of India (DCI) has formulated some universal guidelines based on those of the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention, about the use of personal protection and following sterilisation protocols adapted for use in dental clinics, hospitals and academic institutions of dental education in India(1). All individual dental clinics, hospitals and academic institutions have to follow stringent and mandatory sterilisation protocols, hence with the Covid-19 outbreak, some unethical practices of the dental profession such as inadequate sterilisation and improper waste management may be reversed (1,2).
