Background And Purpose: Chuanxiong Qingnao Granles (CQG), has been used to treat migraine headache (MH) for many years. However, current investigation of CQG have primarily focused on clinical studies, and the potential mechanisms underlying of its effects on MH have not been fully elucidated. In the present study, we applied an integrated approach of transcriptomics and metabolomics to elucidate the therapeutic mechanisms of CQG in nitroglycerin (NTG)-induced MH injury.

Background: A glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCH-L1) blood biomarker panel can reliably eliminate the need to perform a head computed tomography (CT) scan in selected patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Currently, this FDA cleared panel can be run both on a core laboratory platform or a hand-held single-sample point of care platform. This study examined test characteristics of the panel as analyzed on a core lab-based fast high-throughput platform.

The current work aimed to understand the behavioral manifestations that result from disruptions to the selective facilitation of task-relevant sensory information at early cortical processing stages in those with a history of concussion. A total of 40 participants were recruited to participate in this study, with 25 in the concussion history group (Hx) and 15 in the control group (No-Hx). Somatosensory-evoked potentials (SEPs) were elicited via median nerve stimulation while subjects performed a task that manipulated their focus of attention toward or away from proprioceptive cues.

Introduction: Hip fractures are common in elderly patients, often accompanied by comorbidities. These fractures can be combined with other injuries, such as a femoral head, neck, or shaft dislocation. The cause of this complex injury is not well-established, but factors like high-energy trauma or falls from a certain height may contribute.

Objective: Trampolines are popular among children, but trampoline injuries constitute a large number of emergency department visits. The purpose of this study was to determine how often neck injuries occur among children with trampoline-related injuries and to identify the mechanism of injury.
Methods: We analyzed the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) database to characterize patient demographics, injury types, injury subsite, and emergency department disposition status associated with trampoline related neck injuries between 2012 and 2021 in the United States.

Purpose: Traumatic brain injury (TBI), including pediatric abusive head trauma (AHT), is the leading cause of death and disability in children and young adults worldwide. The current understanding of trauma-induced molecular changes in the brain of human subjects with intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) remains inadequate and requires further investigation to improve the outcome and management of TBI in the clinic. Calcium-mediated damage at the site of brain injury has been shown to activate several catalytic enzymes.

Background: Injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) and parathyroid glands (PGs) are the most common and serious complications during the transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA), and their exposure and protection are the most important factors affecting the operation time. Here, we report a novel anatomical landmark and surgical method to shorten the operative time and reduce the chance of injury to the RLN and PGs.
Methods: According to the different exposure methods of the RLN, patients were divided into the experimental group (from top to bottom, E-group) and the comparison group (from outside to inside, C-group), and 1:1 propensity score-matching (PSM) was performed.

Corneal alkali burns persist as a significant challenge in our field, often leading to a prolonged treatment course with various sight-threatening problems. This work, of utmost importance, aimed to apply the photo-tissue bonding technique (PTB) to weld the amniotic membrane (AM) to the corneal surface versus an amniotic membrane graft (AMG) and explore its safety in saving corneal protein against alkali burn. Methods Twenty-seven rabbits with an induced corneal ulcer using 1 mol/L NaOH solution.

Objective: To investigate the correlation between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in neurosurgery and their impact on the occurrence and prognosis of acute traumatic progressive hemorrhagic brain injury (PHI) among traumatic brain injury patients.
Method: A retrospective analysis encompassed 220 traumatic brain injury patients treated between 2019 and 2022. Patients were categorized into two groups: those experiencing progressive hemorrhagic brain injury (PHI) and those without PHI.

Carbendazim is widely applied in agriculture to control various fungal diseases during pre-harvest and post-harvest processes owing to its efficacy and cost-effectiveness. However, environmental and food contamination by carbendazim has become a global health issue. Indeed, the declining biodiversity of beneficial insects owing to agricultural intensification is currently of keen concern to the scientific community.

Background: Cortical high-frequency activation immediately before death has been reported, raising questions about an enhanced conscious state at this critical time. Here, we analyzed an electroencephalogram (EEG) from a comatose patient during the dying process with a standard bedside monitor and spectral parameterization techniques.
Methods: We report neurophysiologic features of a dying patient without major cortical injury.

Second stage of labor is considered to be associated with an increased risk of intrapartum fetal hypoxic injury. This is due to a combination of several risk factors such as -the increased frequency, strength and duration of uterine contractions due to higher number and affinity of myometrial oxytocin receptors; -the Ferguson's reflex which leads to a reflex release of endogenous oxytocin in response of the distension of the cervix by descending fetal head in late stages of labor; maternal expulsive efforts with the Valsalva manoeuvre that may reduce maternal oxygenation, as well as reduce the venous return and maternal cardiac output due to increased intrathoracic pressure, winch may lead to reduced placental oxygenation; - and increased fetal intracranial pressure due to head compression leading to a potential decrease in fetal cerebral oxygenation. In addition, the umbilical cord often forms one or more loops around the fetal neck, which may get tightened as the head descends leading to an acute and intermittent cessation of fetal oxygenation.

The case report concerns a 67-year-old man who suffered an accident on a motorcycle, as a result of which he suffered a dented fracture of the right humeral head. After physical examination and imaging diagnostics, he was qualified for surgical treatment-arthrosurface of the patient's humeral head with the OVO surface replacement endoprosthesis. Right after the patient's surgical treatment, a period of 16-week rehabilitation was implemented, which, as a result, enabled the patient to achieve a full range of shoulder mobility, and the patient was able to return to all activities before the injury.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a global health problem affecting millions of individuals annually, potentially resulting in persistent neuropathology, chronic neurological deficits, and death. However, TBI not only affects neural tissue, but also affects the peripheral immune system's homeostasis and physiology. TBI disrupts the balanced signaling between the brain and the peripheral organs, resulting in immunodysregulation and increasing infection susceptibility.
